Chapter 32 A Series of Critical Hits
Although it was common for people to arrange child marriages, not many would believe a child’s words.
The lady boss looked at Xiao Yun with an expression that said, “I knew it.” Then, she gave him a thumbs up.
However, the boss sneered at the children. “Really? How can such a small child know that he is engaged to another child? Are you making this up?”
A man at the next table also stood up, feeling a little sour because he was already in his thirties and was still single. How could he feel otherwise when Xiao Yun, a little child, was already engaged to someone?
But Xiao Yun didn’t even spare that man a glance. “Xi Xi, did you tell them that we’re not engaged?”
Lin Xi was already watching them as the three conversed, so she could roughly understand what they were saying. With a serious expression, she said, “Indeed, Big Brother Xiao Yun and I have already gotten engaged, and it was our parents who arranged it.”
By the time she was done speaking, she had a bright smile on her face.
Everyone reacted differently. Some were embarrassed, some were shocked, some were relieved, and some weren’t bothered.
The man in his thirties sat back down, embarrassed.
Only the lady boss happily rebuked the boss. “See, they are in an arranged marriage. Are you underestimating them just because they’re children? Don’t you know? Children nowadays know a lot.”
After saying that, the lady boss walked to the kitchen happily and even hummed a little tune.
The boss nodded.
And with that, the farce ended and the kids went back to kindergarten.
Upon their departure, the other customers in the shop started to discuss loudly what they had just heard.
“Wow, unbelievable. They’re already engaged to each other at such a young age?”
“They must be childhood sweethearts. They are so young. I can’t help but envy them.”
“Did you see that? That little girl is so pretty.”
“That boy is also pretty good-looking.”
“To be honest, the two of them look quite compatible.”
“So what if they’re compatible? They’re just children. What’s the big deal with them being engaged?” At this time, a voice of objection came out.
Some people couldn’t help but retort, “Hey, watch your tone. Do you want me to add some vinegar to your food? I have a big bottle here.”
“Why? Did I say anything wrong? Besides, I’m already a married man.”
But the others still weren’t happy with him as they glared in his direction.
The man felt as if their glares could dismember him. Uncomfortable, he quickly finished his noodles in a few mouthfuls and left the noodle shop.
On the other side of town, Xiao He, Lin Feiyang, and Li Ping had arrived in town.
Lin Feiyang and Li Ping asked Xiao He to look for Wang Li first as the couple headed to Lin Xi’s grandmother’s house to pay her a visit. They would buy the dishes when they were ready to go back.
Xiao He gritted his teeth as he agreed. He was expecting Lin Feiyang and Li Ping to go with him. That way, the situation would not be too awkward.
But in the end, the three of them split into two groups. Xiao He first called Wang Li to ask where she was. Wang Li said that she was at home, so Xiao He asked where her home address was. Although Wang Li was confused as to why he was asking these questions, she still gave him what he needed.
Xiao He told her to wait at home before hanging up the phone.
Wang Li looked at her phone and realized that Xiao He meant that he would be coming over later.
So she hurriedly changed her clothes and put on some light makeup. While there was still time, she tidied up her place.
Sure enough, not long after, there was a knock on the door.
Wang Li replied loudly from inside the room, “Coming.” Then she put down the pillow in her hand and went to open the door.
As soon as Wang Li opened the door, she saw Xiao He standing there, a little uneasy. “You’re here.”
“Well, I came to see you today because I have a request for you,” said Xiao He as he scratched his hair.
Wang Li turned her body and motioned for Xiao He to come in. “Let’s talk inside. Don’t stand at the door.”
Xiao He was still a bit reserved after entering. He didn’t know whether to stand or sit.
Wang Li handed him a glass of water. “Sit.”
The two of them sat on the sofa and Xiao He took a sip of water to ease the awkwardness.
“What brings you here today?” Wang Li was the first to speak.
Xiao He put down the cup. “Well, Xiao Yun a lottery ticket and won the bet a few days ago, so I wanted to invite you to my house for dinner tonight to celebrate together.”
Xiao He was afraid that Wang Li would feel uncomfortable, so he added, “Don’t worry. Brother Lin and his wife will be there too.”
Wang Li burst out laughing. “Isn’t it just dinner? What are you nervous about?”
Xiao He immediately realized that he had been too worried. It was just an invitation to have a meal, and she didn’t have to say yes.
Why was he acting like a young man who had never been in a relationship?
Then, Xiao He cleared his throat and said seriously, “No, I’m not.”
Then, he picked up the cup and took a sip of water.
Wang Li did not press any further.
“But, did you just say that Xiao Yun won the lottery?” asked Wang Li incredulously.
Xiao He nodded. “Yes, this kid started picking up recyclables some time ago, even asking me for the recyclables from our house. He said he wanted to the money for something. Who knew that he would use the money to buy lottery tickets?”
Wang Li still couldn’t believe her ears. Such a young kid was so lucky to win the lottery?
Then, Xiao He explained to her, “That kid said that he read a book about the lottery two days ago and did some research. That’s why he placed a bet. But since lotteries depend a lot on luck, the kid must have gotten lucky.”
Even though he said that, the pride in Xiao He’s eyes couldn’t be hidden.
“By the way, Xiao Yun said that he wants to use this money to let me do business.” Xiao He planned to probe Wang Li first.
At this time, Wang Li was even more surprised, but she still nodded and said, “Then this is a good thing.”
“He said that he wants me to work with you to change your factory into a snack production station,” said Xiao He embarrassedly as he scratched his head.
“How about this? Tonight, when we go to my house for dinner, we will talk about this in more detail. Since this suggestion was put forward by Xiao Yun first, I think that he would be able to reason it out properly. I think he already has a general understanding of the situation, so let’s wait for that kid to see what he has to say about this matter,” said Xiao He.
Xiao He had given Wang Li several critical “hits’ in such a short period of time, which also refreshed her perspective of Xiao Yun once again.
“Okay,” Wang Li agreed. She also wanted to see what other surprises this three-year-old kid would give her.
