Chapter 68：A Different Source

Upon seeing that my immediate response was to appraise the young man I fought as he was passed out on the floor after that beating.

'Weird, his status looks different than normal. System, is there a reason for this?' I think to myself after taking a quick look at his status.

[Yes, we are currently in another world through a special method. Every world has a status, it's just that this world has evolved differently and so they have used their "Source" as a way to increase the power of their overall bodies. This world went down a "Cultivation" type of road instead of an "RPG" type of world. No resident of this world can see the status other than this world's Plane Will.]

'Okay, so what's a plane's will?'

[A plane's will is the manifestation of the World's Will. You could call this will "Gaia" also known as Gaia's Theory on Earth. Basically, this will makes sure that the world is balanced and keeps the world from total destruction.]

After listening to the system I couldn't help but feel that there is something else missing, 'But if that is really the case then why was I summoned from another world to kill the Demon King and whoever is controlling him? Wouldn't that ruin the balance?'

[As long as the world itself is destroyed why would the Plane's Will care? The Plane's Will takes care of the world not anything that inhabits them.]

'So every race in that world can go extinct and the world won't do anything to help?'

[Yes. From the world's point of view, humans and the other races are just byproducts of what they have maintained for many years.]

'Then what is the second part of the first trial?' I ask trying to get some information from the system now that I can use it again.

[That is for you to find out.] The system says heartlessly rejecting my request for information.

"Now that we have a winner, the bet shall be upheld and your total Disciple points have been updated. Go ahead and check it on your badge." One of the judges says as he gets up ready to leave already.

As he says that I lift up the badge from my pocket as it has been shining since the battle ended.

Now that skills and the system are usable again and this is a world where I won't ever be back to I might as well as take advantage of that.

After successfully stealing the skill I immediately decided to appraise it to see just what has changed from the original skill.

Skill Name: Shadow Step(Lv.1)

Skill Description: Create a Shadow of yourself to help confuse the enemy. The shadow created is an exact copy of yourself and will seem real until hit. The shadow will be in perfect sync with you so it is harder to tell which is the shadow and which isn't. This skill is incomplete and can be upgraded through use.

'Nice, I got a movement technique from another world. It's too bad that it's level reset to level 1 though.'

'Does it pose any dangers to me if I do?'

[At most the system will have to use a special method to force the "Source" to merge with your current one. It will be an attack on a level you have never faced before, it will hurt your soul beyond repair if failed.]

After what felt like an eternity of pain my mind became clear and I started reading the system's notifications that I missed. As the headache or should I call it "Soulache" faded the words became more clear and I could finally read them.

'So I went through all the pain for no reason? Bruh.'

Looking around I'm still in the same place as before and it was as if no time passed at all. The judges left all except one who stayed behind.

"I'd like to have a word with you in my quarters. I'll take us there immediately." he says as he grabs ahold of my hand and pulls out a piece of paper with weird drawings on it.

The world around us starts to change as my vision is filled with white as all color from the surroundings start to fade out of existence. After almost all color was replaced with white new objects started to fill in the white emptiness. Quickly the world changed into a house with a view on the side of a mountain, looking down at almost all of the clan. I could see the arena we were just in as well.

"Since we're here now go ahead and take a seat while I make some tea." the old judge says as he turns around and walks into another room, presumably the kitchen.
