Three days later, Li Changsheng found himself summoned by the Clan Elder of Foreign Affairs.
Li Changsheng found his way to the reception of the Foreign Affairs Hall with the directions of a member there. The Foreign Affairs Hall was seldom open to other people not from the Hall and even then, unless you were someone who had greatly contributed to the Foreign Affairs Hall, it was unlikely that the Foreign Affairs Clan Elder would come to meet you personally. That said a great deal of Li Changsheng’s contribution to the Hall of Foreign Affairs.
It was not too long before the Foreign Affairs Clan Elder had reached the reception area, a kind smile on his face as he approached Li Changsheng. He seemed to be in a good mood.
Li Changsheng let out a sigh of relief when he saw the expression of Foreign Affairs Clan Elder, a twinge of excitement pulling at his heart. If all went well, the Lin Clan’s schemes could very well have been as he had predicted. Not only did they want the Li Clan’s miniature Soul Crystal Mine, but they wanted to weaken the Li Clan’s forces in the process too.
If that was the case, Li Changsheng had successfully seen through the Lin Clan’s plans and saved the Soul Crystal Mine thus preventing his clan from suffering more losses. It was in no doubt a big contribution to his clan. Who knew how they would thank him?
As Li Changsheng’s ‘report’ was a job well done, his clan would surely credit him accordingly following their code of strict rules.
“Foreign Affairs Clan Elder!” Like the last time, Li Changsheng appeared confident as he stood before his elder while making sure he was not being unrespectful to the Foreign Affairs Clan Elder.
The Foreign Affairs Clan Elder immediately smiled as his eyes set on Li Changsheng and took the initiative to pat him on the shoulder. “No need to be too polite, Changsheng! You’ve done well for our clan this time, and the clan will surely repay you for your efforts. This clan of ours might have suffered a huge loss if not for your timely warning!”
The Foreign Affairs Clan Elder felt a shiver of fear in his heart as he spoke. The Lin Clan had plotted big this time, snatching the Soul Crystal Mine was only their side goal—destroying the entire foundation of the Li Clan was the heart of their plan.
After all, the Li Clan would surely have suffered severely should they lose a huge portion of their younger generation.
To prevent the plan from being leaked, not too many members of the Lin Clan were in on it. Every member of the Lin Clan were geniuses in their own ways, not to mention that the one who led their operation was one of their clan elders.
Under their purposeful nudges, the ‘Wind Wolf Disaster’ at Green Mountain had resulted in serious damages to the Soul Crystal Mine’s defenses. Then the Lin Clan had then deliberately sent someone to tell the Li Clan.
The small group of Lin’s had hidden somewhere secretly right from the beginning and, with the strategy to lure and attack backup forces, the Lin Clan had planned to take out waves of troops the Li Clan had sent to exterminate the Wind Wolves.
With how important the Soul Crystals were at that moment, the Li Clan had no other option but to send troops to eliminate the den of wolves. With their enemy in the dark, the first group of demon tamers to march in would undoubtedly suffer a terrible fate.
The Lin Clan’s plan was to create the illusion that the Wind Wolves were overpowering the forces of backup the Li’s had sent and slowly eat away at their forces platoon by platoon. Therefore, reaching their goal to severely damage the Li Clan.
By then, the Li Clan would certainly have tasted tremendous defeat, not to mention that the Soul Crystal Mine would have fallen into the hands of the Lin Clan as well. If they had been forced into such deterioration, it would be a long time before the Li Clan could recover, and they may no longer hold their ground against the Lin’s in the future.
With the time the Li Clan would need to recuperate, it was more than enough for the Lin Clan to expand their forces and seize more of the Li’s resources to the point of complete annihilation of the Li Clan.
Unfortunately, Lin Zheng had been compromised. Not only had his identity been revealed, but he had been defeated by Li Changsheng who was of a lower level as well. Lin Zheng’s token of identity was the most crucial evidence Li Changsheng had in persuading the Foreign Affairs Clan Elder.
“Your information has saved our clan from a great disaster. Not to mention that report of yours dealt a blow to the Lin Clan too. You’ve done well for our clan, and it’s only right the clan repays you for your hard work!”
Though the Lin Clan had received their just desserts for their attack against the Li’s, there were only a few survivors left of the first group of Li Clan members who set off to exterminate the Wind Wolves at Green Mountain, which included Li Changsheng, the thick-eyebrowed adolescent, and the poker-faced teenager.
“These are the clan rewards that I have personally requested for you in the hopes that you keep up the good work and become one of our clan’s great pillars!”
As he spoke, the Foreign Affairs Clan Elder unclenched his right palm to show two items. With the flick of a hand, both items appeared in Li Changsheng’s hand in a stream of light.
“My gratitudes, clan elder!”
Li Changsheng made sure not to look too expectant of the rewards as he stood before the Foreign Affairs Clan Elder and politely thanked him.
“You’ve earned it. Alright, then. I shall take my leave now. I still have things to deal with, after all!” With a wave of his hand, the Foreign Affairs Clan Elder had the other members of the Hall escort him out.
Li Changsheng left the reception room and headed to the reward claiming station which was managed by an attendant.
Cross-checking the mission items with the mission board, the butler paid Li Changsheng his corresponding rewards.
Li Changsheng did not dwell in the station after receiving his rewards, opting to return to his room first before taking them out to inspect.
The rewards given to him were a pendant and a token respectively, though he was clueless as to what they were used for.
Li Changsheng picked up the pendant. It was a splendid looking lavender pattern with a transparent gem around the size of a fingernail set right in its center.
Purely based on its appearance, the pendant seemed nothing more than your everyday accessory. However, Li Changsheng thought otherwise, as he believed that his clan would not merely give him a trinket in exchange for the help that he had contributed to the clan. He had a hunch that this pendant was one with special abilities.
Immediately, Li Changsheng engulfed the purple pendant with his omniscience.
His omniscience swarmed into the pendant right upon contact, or more specifically, it swarmed into the transparent gemstone.
In the blink of an eye, a small area of space appeared in Li Changsheng’s mind.
It was a regular cube, around 1 cubic meter in capacity, surrounded in the dark of his ocean of consciousness, like it had been carved from the void.
Li Changsheng was elated with the discovery. This was an Interspatial Pendant, a rare independent-space treasure that functioned unlike the demon pouch, as it could only store items and not living things.
There was limited room in the pendant, and it was one of the lowest-ranked storage treasures. However, it was not something every other demon tamer would have. Forget about Level 1 tamers, not even most Level 2 demon tamers could get their hands on it. Lin Zheng, for example, certainly did not.
With this Interspatial Pendant in his possession, Li Changsheng realized that he could cut down on a lot of bothersome troubles. He could now easily bring along many more necessary items to deal with a larger variety of problems that may arise in the future.
Without hesitating, Li Changsheng wore the pendant and began to familiarize himself with the intricacies of using the pendant.
There were criteria the item had to meet before it could be stored in the pendant. Firstly, the size of the item must not be larger than the space in the pendant, and secondly, the weight of the item must also be within the demon tamer’s capability.
Figuring his way around the pendant, Li Changsheng started with placing a dolium of Healing Spring inside, and then a piping hot dessert after further contemplation.
Half an hour later, he took them both out. Surprisingly, the piece of dessert was still hot, and the dolium of Healing Spring did not show any sign of degrading.
Perhaps that was due to the fact that the space within the pendant was a vacuum. It would explain why the storage treasure could not hold living beings but was able to preserve non-living items. That made Li Changsheng’s life much easier.
With that, Li Changsheng turned to examine his second reward.
