[Yang Menghuo POV]
Yang Menghuo had a terrible mood after that witch visited him in his penthouse. He called the cleaner to clean the whole penthouse in case if that witch did something when he was not around. Menghuo looked at the long leather sofa in disgust and ordered his subordinate, "Buy me a new sofa, throw this one away. It smells like dog shit."
Yang Menghuo sat on his new sofa. He looked up to the ceiling, still thinking what happened today. He lost his mood to do anything today. Yang Menghuo closed his eyes, imagining the good times with Ying Jie again to feel happier.
But his imagination was ruined when he remembered what that Witch Daiyu said to mock his Ying Jie.
'Tell me, what's about that ape woman? Is this a fetish of yours, to prefer an ugly monkey as your lover? That's quite unfortunate, though, since I don't think I can't ever be like her. An ape woman is quite hard to impersonate..'
Yang Menghuo clenched his fist. He blamed himself for unable to stand up for Ying Jie. He got used to ignoring Daiyu for whatever crazy things and slander she said. Because Menghuo realized that he always lost against Li Daiyu's sharp mouth and condescending nature.
But when Li Daiyu left, Menghuo finally realized that he had been allowing that witch to slander Ying Jie so much right in front of him. It was a humiliation for both Ying Jie and himself. And Menghuo felt really guilty.
Because he felt weak and stupid.
Yang Menghuo was never a smooth talker, nor was he a good debater. But when he remembered what Li Daiyu said to his Ying Jie, his blood boiled, and he kept blaming himself for not standing up for Ying Jie.
"I will never let that witch slander and mock my Ying Jie again," Yang Menghuo promised himself. "I could've done something to protect Ying Jie… I should have…"
"Or… I can do that…"
Yang Menghuo knew that he couldn't touch Li Daiyu's career right now. Because his mother was protecting that witch. Indeed, his mother, Madam Evelynn Yang, favored Li Daiyu a lot. Because she fit all the checklist that his mother had.
But Yang Menghuo could do something, of course…
After he got older, he realized that he wasn't safe all the time. There were plenty of times where some people, especially business rivals, targeted him. Because Yang Menghuo was ruthless when he invested in a company. He didn't hesitate to cull the competitors so his investment would bring him the most benefit.
So Yang Menghuo wasn't unfamiliar with the underhanded method and how to deal with them.
"I can call Uncle Guo and have Li Daiyu kidnapped and drowned somewhere…"
"Then I will call Luo He to cover up any investigation leading to Li Daiyu's death. It shouldn't be too hard. It will be a fitting punishment for slandering my Jie…"
Yang Menghuo considered the possibility, and he found it wouldn't be too difficult to do with his money. He was just one call away to execute his plan. He was indeed remorseless to his competitor since his parents didn't know much about his growth since he was just a baby.
He was raised by his grandmother, devoid of parental love from his real parents. Thus, he grew up alone with the money he had from his busy parents, who cared more of their business empire than their only son. It was already a blessing for him not to blacken completely to be a total evil, wealthy madman.
And that, thanks to his late grandma and Batman-Jie. He was practically taught by Batman-Jie on how to be a good person, from helping the weak and things about courage and compassion. Batman-Jie might not be the perfect teacher in all things. But Batman-Jie was Menghuo's anchor whenever he felt like he would snap anytime.
---
One time, Batman-Jie scolded him after she caught Mengmeng smashing a frog with a rock until the frog dead horribly.
'MENGMENG! What are you doing! That's just a defenseless frog!' Batman-Jie took the rock from Mengmeng's hand and threw it away. 'You just killed a defenseless animal!'
Mengmeng never got scolded by Batman-Jie, and never saw her got angry at him. He didn't understand what he did either. Since he was just curious. Mengmeng trembled and started crying, 'Wuaaaa, I'm sorry! I'm sorry, Jie! I don't know why did I do that!'
Batman-Jie, who was ready to go on full Hercules at Mengmeng, eventually deflated after seeing him cry. She sighed and patted Mengmeng's head, 'Don't do this in the future, okay? You shouldn't hurt a defenseless animal or weaker people. That makes you no different than those bullies. You don't want to be a bully, right?'
Mengmeng still sobbed, but he slowly looked up at Batman-Jie and nodded obediently, 'Mengmeng will not hurt weaker people… Mengmeng promise. Batman-Jie will still love Mengmeng if I'm obedient, right?'
Batman-Jie chuckled, 'As long as you be a good person, then I will always love my cute Mengmeng.'
---
That scene was still rooted deep inside his memory. So, whenever he wanted to just take the shortcut and eliminate his competitors, the image of angry and disappointed Batman-Jie flashed in front of him.
And he had to hold himself. Unless his competitors took the first step to eliminate him, then he would count that as a war. And he didn't hesitate anymore.
Yang Menghuo imagined Batman-Jie and Ying Jie's disappointed face if they saw him murdered Li Daiyu. Though he hated that witch so much, it would still count as hurting weaker people.
One thing for sure, Yang Menghuo didn't want to see that disappointment in their eyes, both Ying Jie and Batman-Jie.
Although his search for Batman-Jie still hadn't resulted in anything, but at least, whenever Ying Jie was around, he got the same sense of security and familiarity.
Yang Menghuo stared at the phone number of Ying Jie, which was supposed to be private data in the Rent A Boyfriend app. But he partially owned this application, so it was easy to get.
He didn't know what went wrong, but for now… he just wanted to hear Ying Jie's voice to calm himself down…
"Should I call her?"
