Everything went quiet after Madam Yang left with Meng Bao. I was still grieving over Meng Bao's leave, but in the end, I realized that he needed to clear his problem with his mother first.
I didn't know how he would do it, though. I've been thinking about Meng Bao the whole time and whether he could solve things peacefully because Meng Bao wasn't exactly the most patient man on earth.
I sighed as I ate dinner with my parents and sisters. They kept staring at me for an obvious reason, but I didn't have the moon to talk about it, and they understood.
Thus, the situation became a bit awkward. I played with my food lazily, wondering if things could've been much better if I told Meng Bao to stay before.
"You did the right thing, Shi Ying," My dad said suddenly. "Parents' blessing is part of a sacred ritual for a long-lasting marriage. If he cannot get his parents' blessing, then we cannot do anything.."
"No, I just think if I should've followed him. So I can get his mom's blessing after she knows about my quality," I said.
"Ying Jie, don't you see what that old woman said about you? She dares to insult you in front of mom and dad! Do you think things couldn't get worse if you're alone with her?" Shi Meili gave me another reality slap.
"Hmph! That woman dares to insult my daughter! Doesn't she know that my daughter is a strong, independent woman? Just because we're poor doesn't mean we need her money!" My mom yelled, full of anger.
"Mom… she's my boss' Wife…."
…
"I guess I can't do anything…." I sighed, full of woe.
I played with my food for a moment and then decided to leave the dinner table. "I need to pack things up. I have to return to Beijing tomorrow. Tomorrow is already Wednesday anyway. I already took my short break for this year."
I went inside my room and realized that the Batman Jie and Mengmeng stuff was still there. Because a few hours ago, Meng Bao had proposed to me, it was all sweet and fuzzy.
And then everything turned 180 degrees, and I'm alone again.
I looked at my ring and sighed, "Meng Bao, you really know how to play with my heart. Just make sure that you'll be able to convince your mom."
I put down all Batman Jie and Mengmeng stuff inside the box and put it under my bed again. I packed up my things and then ordered an evening train to Beijing with an app because of the long trip from my village to the station.
I sat on the bed, sighing over and over, "Okay, Shi Ying, it's time to face reality and starts working again. Give Meng Bao the time to sort out things himself. Just trust him."
**
I woke up in the morning. I've prepared everything the night before. When I checked my phone, there was a text from Meng Bao.
*Meng Bao: Good Morning, Jie. I just want to make sure that you were okay after the commotion last night. Don't worry, Jiejie, I will make sure to clear everything. My mom is too much, but nothing is stopping me, Jie.*
*Meng Bao: I'm currently boarding in New York for a business deal. I'm with my mom right now.*
I was relieved that Meng Bao didn't have a huge fight with his mother…
Or did he? I wondered…
*Ying Jie: I understand your mother, Baobao. She just wants the best for you.*
*Meng Bao: She wants the best in her version, not mine. I'm still in Cold War with her, but I will make sure that nobody will stop me, Jie.*
*Meng Bao: Honestly, if it's not you who said that my parent's blessing is also important, I might have already…. Never mind.*
*Meng Bao: Baobao loves you, Jie. I will return soon.*
I chuckled at his response. I guess Meng Bao was calmer than I thought. Maybe I've underestimated him. I really thought that he was a crybaby…
"Well, that's not really wrong! He is really acting like a spoiled baby in front of me! Hmph!" I complained, and then I laughed, "Baobao is so cute ah~."
I stepped out of my room and found my parents already standing in front of my door as if they were trying to eavesdrop if their daughter would cry over something like that.
"Why are you guys here?" I asked.
"N—Nothing," they tried to elude me. "A—Ah, Shi Ying, are you hungry? I've prepared for you," My mom offered.
"Don't worry about transportation. Dad will take you with that old motorcycle. You can sit behind like always," dad added.
They were very supportive of me nonetheless, but I'm glad that they had come to the realization that my love life wasn't something that was supposed to be forced.
It was bound by fate, after all. I was single for twenty-seven years until I found my beloved Mengmeng again, and he proposed to me right away. No need for unnecessary drama, no crazy plot twist, no evil scheme stuff either.
I shrugged, "Thanks, mom, dad."
"You're not sad or depressed, aren't you? Don't go near sharp stuff! That's dangerous!"
"Eh, I'm pretty fine. I don't have anything in mind right now. I just need to take a bath and go back to Beijing," I said.
I took a bath and then returned to my room. My sisters already packed everything for me. Meili and Yanyue yelled at the same time, "Jiejie, you can do it! You should rest more if you need to. No need to think about Yang Menghuo!"
"Pfftt!" I flicked their foreheads lightly. "Okay, okay, your Jie is fine ah. I don't have anything in mind right now. I just want to go back to Beijing and start working again. I really can't stay and laze around in the home for so long."
"Oh, Yanyue, I'm still finding a job for you. You're still working in the convenience store near the gate, right?"
"Yes, Jie," Yanyue nodded.
"Continue that. I'll try to find a job for you, for us. Because I don't know if my boss will keep me if Madam Yang wants to fire me, haha," I said, full of sarcasm.
I mean, I did love the job, but that wasn't really something that I couldn't live with. True, it would be hard for a twenty-seven years old, very average woman to get a good job. But who knew magical miracle stuff will happen, right?
After I prepared everything, dad was ready with that old motorbike that should've been laid to rest. But that old motor was still running for whatever reason.
I carried my big suitcase on my shoulder and put it in the cart connected with the old motorbike. I jumped at the cart and tapped my dad, "Let's go, dad."
"Ahhh! Wait!"
My mom rushed with butter from our family farm, "Don't forget about this one ah!"
"Thanks, mom," I accepted the butter and then left the farm with dad.
The journey took about six hours to the train station. And after I arrived, my dad kissed my forehead and cheek.
"Dad won't pressure you to marry anymore. I feel like there is no use of pressuring you since your love life and marriage has been set by the red string of fate."
"Dad just wants the best for you, Shi Ying. If Yang Menghuo truly loves you, then he will return to you. But if he doesn't, then your dad will be the one who takes care of you."
"Aiya, Dad, you're so old already. You have a back problem as well! How would you take care of me?" I laughed, but I kissed his cheek and continued, "I will take care of you instead, dad."
I turned my back and entered the train station. I checked my ticket and gave my ID card to the girl at the counter.
The moment she saw my ID card, her eyes bulged, and she immediately bowed her head, "M—Miss Shi Ying, your train has been waiting for you! Please come with me!"
"Train?" I frowned. "My train is at 5, no?"
"N—No, that's just regular train. I mean, your own train named Ying Jie Luv Meng Bao Train."
…
I followed the girl, and she brought me to a flashy new train that was so out of place with all these old trains around.
There was a name painted on it…
*YING JIE LUV MENG BAO TRAIN! NO TOUCH, THIS IS MY JIE'S STUFF!*
The train also had our selfie together, as if Meng Bao wanted to show the whole world about us… in a very showy way.
That name… that picture…
No, I refused to accept that name!
What the heck is in his tacky pink brain!
I called Meng Bao immediately, and he picked it up in less than two seconds, "Hello, Meng Bao! What the heck is this train?!"
"Ahh, Jie must've seen that train. Ehe, I purchased it as your birthday gift since you said that you like using the train to your hometown."
…
This guy's brain was just wired differently.
