Such a man was suitable to have as a girl's favorite lover, but he came back late. I had kept a place in my heart for him for eight years, but in the last few months, I didn't.
His hand stretched out across the table, grasping one of my hands holding the knife.
"Steven," I said.
"I still want to call you brother," I told him.
He seemed to get it, but he kept asking, "Would you like to be my girlfriend?"
"No!" I hesitated but did not want to deceive him. "Sorry, I have fallen in love with someone else," I said. He withdrew his hand which held my hand. There was silence for a moment.
I continued to eat steak... with my head down. The sound of the knife cutting the plate echoed. "Are you getting along well now?" he asked.
"It's over! He has deserted me," I replied.
He reached out again and took my hand, "Let me have you."
"Can you stop?" I asked.
He grinned and pinched my face as if delighted, "I'm sorry, I need your permission to pursue you," he said.
"Oh!" I lowered my head and whispered, "I'm so naive that some sweet words or romantic tricks could trap me in, so I just hope you don't throw me away."
He could not help laughing, which caused the guests at the next table to laugh. Why didn't I find it funny at all? I buried my head and continued to drink my lemon juice, which seemed too diluted.
In their eyes I was stupid! Because they didn't understand my fear! My enemy could touch my heart without any effort, not to mention the prince I had been waiting for so long. I didn't want to taste bitter love again. As it turned out, I was overthinking because Steven and Jonathan were not the same.
It was a lack of passion for a gentleman like Steven, no matter how long he pursued me, I could not feel much. As for Jonathan, he could chase me and then desert me, again and again. But I was still obsessed with him for no reason.
Before we finished dinner, I remembered something important and asked in a low voice, "Brother Steven, do you have a gun?"
"Gun?" his eyes widened, but he did not speak.
"I see that all the people around Jonathan are armed. Has he given a weapon to you too?" I asked him, curiously.
"Why are you so cute?" he asked and fondly touched my head and said, "I take charge of legitimate business management. Although I have had physical training, I work in economics and management."
I was a little disappointed, as he didn't have a gun, my plan to murder Jonathan which was devised many years ago, came to mind. I had to go back and rethink things.
After dinner, I didn't want to go back. But Steven said he had promised to take me back before eight o 'clock every day. I had no choice but to go back. When I entered the house, it surprised me that Jonathan, who had never been at home, was sitting leisurely on the sofa and reading the newspaper, especially the entertainment page!
"You are back!" he said, glanced at the flowers in my hand and his watch, then continued reading the newspaper.
Steven said to him respectfully. "If you have no other instructions, I will go back soon. And I will pick Desiree up for school tomorrow morning."
"Okay!" Jonathan said and shrugged his shoulder.
I whispered back, "See you tomorrow!"
The newspaper in Jonathan's hands crumpled.
After Steven left, Emma came to take my flowers and said, "Miss, let me arrange them nicely for you."
"Thank you!" I said.
"Throw them away!" Jonathan said coldly, "I hate the smell of pollen."
"Then I'll keep them in my room!" I said and picked up the flowers, going upstairs slowly, and stayed in the room all night.
The next morning, I dressed up and went downstairs. There was no breakfast on the table, and Jonathan was drinking coffee.
"Miss! So early today?" Emma said, "I'll prepare your breakfast."
"No, I'll eat out!" I told her.
He looked up at me and said nothing. I was unwilling to talk to him, so I told Emma, "I will go to McDonald's with my friends for breakfast. Besides, I'll eat out for the next three meals. So, you needn't prepare my share."
I didn't look at him at that time but just seeing a glimpse of him, I found that he was staring at me for a long time. If it was in the past, I might have felt joyful about it, but now I didn't bother seeking any expression in his eyes.
Finally, I found myself lost in love again!
