Salem rode through the city at a dead gallop, he knew at this pace the horse would die before he reached his knights yet he rode the horse harder. Behind him rode his personal guard along with the legion of wraiths, barely keeping pace with their commanders. With Salem riding in front, the citizens in the roads moved from his path scared of being trampled.
As they saw the masked warrior rushing past them they had glimpsed the army following him and screamed for others to make way. It took ten minutes for him to rush from his home to the northern gate, he swore that he would fix the issue of a proper mount once he returned.
Rushing past the guards and thankful the gates were still open, he moved into the outer city ruins with scattered undead moving through the streets. He summoned his spear along with his tails, whipping these weapons about, he cleared a path towards the wall.
He could feel them just beyond the wall, the sounds of battle rang in the air. His horse faltered beneath him, he quickly resurrected the poor beast as an undead. It quickly got up and raced headlong into the undead in its path, like a raging bull it crushed everything that stood in its path.
He pushed his new steed up the stair to mount the outer wall, taking him another ten minutes of precious time, reaching the top of the wall he saw a large group of elves fighting against the undead but there were hundreds of elves. Most of them had the look of women and children, who were being protected, though the women held bows and shot with such accuracy none even came close to touching the children.
His troops behind him started to arrive, he ordered the twins to secure the west gate to his left, he ran and summoned his wings for the first time. They were made of black light with a dark green film of light surrounding them, with not a lot of time to inspect them he dove off the wall and glided haphazardly to the ground.
Landing hard on the bare soil he rolled and coming back to his feet he ran, he could see Annah and Jennah fighting off three elite undead by them selfs, the rest of the knights were fighting in various locations to protect more of the people. Pointing his spear forward he blasted green flames into the assaulting undead, using his tails to whip away would be attackers.
He shrunk his spear into a mace and began crushing skeletons to bits, he would occasionally brand a skeleton with a tail he then ordered it to guard his back. Coming up behind an elite undead his tails wrapped about its body and branded its soul while it had been distracted by his knights. Once he had converted it over it, he had it take control of his small undead forces he was collecting, this allowed him to focus on the battle at hand.
Crushing a skeleton, he looked up to see Jennah taking a shield blow knocking her from her feet. Instead of pursuing Jennah, the undead rushed towards Annah, who had pinned down another elite and was about to incinerate her target. Salem turned the mace back into a spear, he took aim, hoisting the spear he threw it letting out a small grunt.
The spear was off course but still slammed into its back, knocking the undead over from the unexpected blow.Annah finished casting her spell destroying her target, Salem charged towards the undead with his spear still lodged in its back, getting close enough Salem grabbed the feet and pulled it towards him.
Salem held the creature still with his tails and began branding its soul, his new recruits stalled the surrounding skeletons while he gained a new minion. Standing up, Salem ripped his spear from his new minion's body, Annah and Jenna ran towards him and leaped into his embrace. He held them for a short moment when he pulled away he saw pointed to the western gate.
"Let us make for the gates, reinforcements are already there and we need to get these people into a safe zone." Jenna nodded and called to the elves still battling the undead, hearing the shout and looking to the gate she had pointed at they made a dash towards the gates.
Salem continued to battle alongside his knights, retreating slowly, letting the women and children get closer before they broke ranks. They had finally bought enough time and followed after the first group, as they approached the gate that had its doors destroyed in the first attack. He saw the twins standing there waiting for him to arrive, the other knights were grouping the women and children into the middle of the wraiths and preparing to leave.
Before they set off towards the fort, he took out some black robes and had his new recruits wear them. He had gained a squad of two upper undead and twenty skeletons, though it wasn't going to mean a huge difference, it was better than nothing.
Moving quickly they arrived at the fort without incident, moving into the fort they were stared at by all the guards. He could hear whispers about the elves, some even implying the slave trade, he held an indifferent look on his face as he rode past the guards and through the city.
Mounted on his undead horse at the head of the precession, Salem split the crowds for those following behind him. Before they could enter his territory a squad of guards stood in his way, he grabbed his spear holding it over his shoulder, "Why do you stand in my path? Do you know who I am?" Salem spoke to the guards
Their captain stood forward, "Of course, you are Lord Belegast, we know you are new to the city so you may be unaware that elves are not allowed to congregate in such large numbers, doing so will violate the law which is punishable by two hundred years of slavery for all adults and all of the children will be sold."
Salem pointed his spear at the man and sent a blast of green flames at him, he was incinerated leaving only charred bones on the ground, " How do the rest of you feel about elves?" Salem asked in a voice so cold that everyone watching stopped breathing. No one dared to answer him, "You have violated my contract with the city lord, my protection against the undead forces will cease immediately. Good luck."
Moving forward Salem remembered one last thing, "If your city lord needs to talk he can find me in my city, Minas Lusta mil Luna, you can call it Void city for short!" Leading the elves forward Salem had a smile on his face, it felt good defending his kin.
