130 Even Don has rules

Finally, Lord Clemo brought the village chiefs to the throne hall and every single one of them was drenched in rain. Looking at Don sitting on his throne, eyes closed, Lord Clemo thought he had fallen asleep and shooshed everyone.

Sensing Lord Clemo and the villagers were trying not to make any sound, Don guessed that they were thinking as he was asleep, Don slowly opened his eyes.

"Your majesty, go back to sleep, we can wait"

"I was meditating, Lord Clemo"

"Oh"

Ignoring Lord Clemo's shock Don turned his gaze towards the villagers and saw their wet selves. And with a wave of his hand, Don sent a hot air that dried them in a few moments as they looked more comfortable now and some of them looked surprised by Don's little trick.

Because of Don's previous treatment to Lord Massen, the villagers were terrified of him and couldn't help but worry thinking about his sudden summon.

"As some of you may or may not know,I'm Don, your new King

"Your majesty"

The villagers bowed towards Don as he continued

"I may not want to know your names, yet. But I want to hear your problems, to be honest, I thought this place would be very different from Emir "

The villagers stood there without answering Don looking at each other but suddenly an old woman stepped forward with a support of a young

"Your majesty, will you give me permission to speak my mind?"

"Go on"

The other villagers looked shocked and surprised at the request of the old woman and the young beside the woman was trying not to shake much and avoiding direct eye contact with Don in fear

"You said Agoria's situation is the same as the barren land Emir. The reason is your majesty, we didn't have a good king, in fact we only had thieves and crooks in that throne"

"Does she have a death wish or something?"

Lord Clemo thought to himself and by the look of the villagers, they seemed to think that too.

Grandma"

The boy felt dizzy and cold sweat started to appear on his forehead

"I'm going to die soon anyway, let me speak my mind"

Feeling the boy's grip on her hand tightening, the old woman raised his voice and yelled at the boy then turned her gaze towards Don again

"When I was little, our kingdom had four cities and more than fifty villages but now look at us, we are barely a kingdom anymore. And my grandma told that when she was little they had more than that"

Don was hearing the old woman without interrupting as the woman continued to vent her anger and frustration in the previous kings

"The bandits are treating our kingdom as their playground, the fricking rain never stops anymore, the sea people destroyed our dock and don't me get started on the tax rates"

Don had already known all of this except for the surprise the old woman gave him, the sea people.

"I wrote countless letters to previous kings, I've spent my whole young age trying to get the kings to do the right thing for our kingdom"

Seeing the old woman coughing Don sent the fancy glass of water beside his throne flying towards the woman

"Drink this and continue"

The woman and the villagers looked stunned when they heard Don because the glass he sent was his, the king. Of course, Don didn't drink from the glass and even if he did, it was a big deal to give the glass to a commoner.

"Don't overthink it, just drink"

After looking at Don, the old woman finally took a sip from the glass and Don made the glass float beside the old woman in case she needs it again

"Continue, you were saying about the previous kings"

"Ah yes, the previous kings, they never did anything. And King Garreth and his father, they even dismissed our boys from the army and recruited the outsiders, only God knows what their reason was"

Just like the old woman said, even Don had no idea why he recruited the outsiders to fight for him spending a whole lot of wealth from the treasury

"So you don't have any complaints about the nobles?"

" what's his deal with nobles?"

Lord Clemo asked himself as the old woman became perplexed for a moment about Don's question and then she answered

"They treat us, commoners, as worse than dirt. While we starve they ask for dessert, our children didn't even have a school to learn but they have tutors for each subject"

As she said, the old woman turned back to look at a middle-aged woman standing among the crowd and pointed at her

"You see this woman, your majesty"

The woman was shaking her head and shivering while being pointed out by the old woman

"Lord Ryan beat her son, a little child to near death your majesty, he was still unconscious with broken bones "

The old woman couldn't understand because she felt Don was different from the previous kings for some reason plus what he could do, just as she said, she was going to die anyway.

"Why?"

Don was able to see the dark circle under the woman's eyes due to a lack of sleep and a lot of crying.

"Because the child stole some fruits from his garden in hunger, your majesty"

Don hated this kind of people the most as the anger within him started to soar through the roof

"Rest in pieces, Ryan"

Lord Clemo had already seen what happened to Lord Massen so he kinda had an idea about what's going to happen to Ryan

"How old is your son?"

Thinking Don as a noble, the woman stepped forward shivering and shaking

"Eight, eight years old, your majesty"

"Lord Clemo, how long does it take you to bring her son here?"

"YOUR MAJESTY PLEASE DON'T DO ANYTHING I BEG YOU!"

The moment Don asked Lord Clemo, the woman fell on her knees and started to scream and beg

"It won't take too long your majesty, her village is closer to the capital"

"Go and bring him"

"What the!"

When Lord Clemo turned to leave he saw the woman trying to stop him from leaving by holding his leg

"Let him go, I won't hurt your son"

The guards already pulled the woman away from Lord Clemo and she was too tired to wiggle her way out of the clutches of the guards

It took another five minutes to make her stop crying and begging Don not to hurt her son even though Don said he was not going to.

There was no sound in the throne hall except for the sound of the heavy downpour. And while he was waiting for Lord Clemo, Don grabbed the file on Ryan and started to read again to find the incident of him beating a seven years child had recorded on it.

"You"

Don looked at the old woman and asked

"Do you know anything about Ryan beating another child like hers, a girl child"

The villagers were stunned to see Don reading a file and asking about the incident and as expected the old woman nodded and looked at the old man among the crowd.

Looking at Don, the old man slowly stepped forward from the crowd

"She was Mika's child your majesty, Mika told me that Lord Ryan punished the girl for trying to learn by watching his son's tutor through the windows"

"She was working in Ryan's house?"

"Yes your majesty"

"How is she now?"

"She has crippled your majesty, Lord Ryan"

Don could see a sudden sadness appearing in the old man's eyes as he took a moment before answering

"Lord Ryan broke her legs"

And that was it, the killing intent started to radiate from Don even though he was controlling the most of it from radiating. The villagers felt a little hard to breathe for a moment but the feeling had gone in a moment

Apparently Lord Ryan liked to beat little children as incidents like this filled Ryan's file. Also, none of the kids were killed, he only liked to beat them to near-death, he was simply a psycho.

And even though Don would feel like a hypocrite sometimes, he didn't and wouldn't beat children to near death. Don was not a saint, he was cruel, ruthless, vicious, and many things but even he had some rules.

Don was thinking all kinds of tortures he could come up with, in his mind.

But also he couldn't but feel sad for these people, especially the parents of these kids. Their life was hard as it is but nobles like Ryan were making even harder and painful.

"God you bastard, I hope I find you one day "

While thinking about everything that happened to him and to people like the villagers, Don started to curse the god for the millionth time.

Until now Don was building a kingdom for one reason in his mind, his revenge but things like this and helpless people like them, started to affect his mentality. Of course, it was not enough to change him from taking revenge, but now he also wanted to, at least give them a better life.

And it also fueled his drive for building an empire, if he was the only king to the entire world, people would live a better life, no matter the race or social status.

He hoped to live long enough to achieve his goals since a small wrong move could take his life. While thinking about the future, Lord Clemo came back with the woman's child in his hand.

Seeing her unconscious son in LOrd Clemo's hand, the woman leaped forward and took him from Clemo's hands and started to gently touch her son's forehead while tears began to flow out of her eyes.

"Ryan's house, lead the way"
