Chapter 273 - SILENT COMPETITION

Now that Mu Lingxi got two additional heads to works with her agenda, she could at least cover more books in thrice the speed than normal.

So far, this is the best option that she could get for herself. Compared if she will going to do the research all by herself.

Mu Lingxi together with her two other pets busied themselves on checking out each of the books that can be found in the library.

This time, they did not just focus on student records. They also tried those records that can be found in the other sections of the library.

Such as the teacher profiles and the records of every notable figure in each field of magic. Like in Elixir Making, Mystozoology, Phytomysticology, and the likes.

Mu Lingxi even found some old records of her teachers while she was doing her research. It happened that Teacher Nana and Teacher Wei also came from the same class before.

It seemed like, Teacher Wei had been pursuing Teacher Nana for a long time now. Considering that they used to be classmates before.

For more than an hour or so, only the sound of page-turning can be heard in that isolated section of the library. Even the usually talkative, Janus is silent at this moment.

He was skimming books after books, one after another without rest. He was too caught up in this 'book viewing' thing.

To the point that he no longer noticed that his master was watching him at the side.

Mu Lingxi can't help but smile as she observed how focused Janus was on what he was doing.

"Ohh?? I never would have imagined that you are this cute when you are serious, Janus."

"MEOW"

[I'm always cute, regardless of what I do.]

Janus replied as if it was a matter of fact.

"So when did you start loving books this much???"

Mu Lingxi can see that Janus was really serious about what he was doing. It was so rare seeing him like that so Mu Lingxi was really enjoying it.

"MEOW"

[Just today... Tsk!]

There was a slight hint of annoyance in Janus' voice when he said that. It seemed that he does not like being bothered whenever he was busy doing something.

Which is normal. After all, who won't feel bothered if someone keeps on disturbing you when you want to focus on something.

But Mu Lingxi did not stop on bothering her cat just because of that. She continued to ask him questions, trying to see if she could distract him.

"Why is that? If I had known before that you like doing this kind of stuff, I would have asked you to do it earlier."

"MEOW"

[Okay. Now, stop bothering me, could you?  I'm busy, can't you see?]

Janus said without lifting his head from the book that he was reading. His eyes never left the pages of the book even once.

Whenever Mu Lingxi asked him a question, he will just give her short responses.

"Err??? What's with him today???"

Mu Lingxi asked herself in confusion. She can't help but wonder what had gotten to him this day? This is so unlike him.

"Did he eat something weird this morning????"

But when she turned her head on the other side of the library, she finally got the answer to her question.

It is not that Janus ate something unusual today, nor he was being a bookworm or something.

Most likely, there had been some silent competition happening between her two pets. Because apparently, Guinevere is acting no different from Janus.

She was also flipping through the pages of the books at an amazing speed!

She even had a tight frown on her cute fluffy white face as she read the books.

Mu Lingxi even had a doubt if the other party could still understand what was written on those pages with such speed that she was reading it.

The number of books that they had read each is twice as much as the books that Mu Lingxi had read so far.

It looked as if among the three of them, it was actually Mu Lingxi who was slacking off.

While her two other pets were busy grinding the books, she as the one who asked for their help in the first place was the one who has the slowest pace.

Both Janus and Guinevere had already read around more than ten piles of books combined. While she on the other hand only had two piles of books so far.

In fact, she had not finished reading all the books in her second pile yet. But she was already starting to get sort of dizzy.

To the point that she felt like if she will not take a break anytime soon, then she will going to collapse.

The words written on the pages were starting to look as if it was dancing in her eyes, due to her exhaustion.

But Janus and Guinevere do not seem like they were having any trouble like her.

They were still busy skimming the books with the same speed that they had right from the start.

Whenever they will notice that the other party was getting a few books ahead of them, they will going to increase their speed further.

Well, this works to her advantage anyways so she just shrugged her shoulders and let them went on their silent competition.

In just half a day of effort, they had already done checking out all the student records in the library. They are now working on the other sections of the library.

Since they still got some time before the day ends, Mu Lingxi decided to asked Janus and Guinevere, to have a short break.

"How was it? Did you guys find anything useful???"

"No, I don't find anything about a sorceress named, Yu Yan. Nor any information about the sorceress that excels in Elixir Making."

Guinevere reported her findings as soon as Mu Lingxi asked for their progress.

Just like Mu Lingxi, the baby snow dragon also did not find any information regarding Yu Yan. Mu Lingxi was no longer disappointed when she heard about it.

She was expecting this kind of outcome already. After all, they had gone to these same books before.

She just wanted to double-check it, that is why she decided to go through the student records one last time

"MEOW"

[Hmp! It's just that you will never do better than me. Cause apparently, I got some useful information on my end.]

Janus said with a proud look on his fur face. He was even sticking his nose in the air when he said that.

He was also craning his almost negligible neck to lift his chin up.

If this was any other occasion, then Mu Lingxi might have tried picking a bone on Janus antic that time and use it to tease him.

But since there were more important matters that needed her attention, she decided to let it pass and not pay it any heed.

Janus seemed to be savoring the moment of his victory over Guinevere. Because he even paused for a while after saying that he found something useful.

"Oh, is that so? What is it then?"

Mu Lingxi urged him to continue on what he was saying after a few more moments of silence.

"MEOW"

[Ehemm...]

Janus first cleared his throat before continuing. But not before giving his master a 360 eye roll.

Can't she see that he was busy showing off and building dominance over whose better and whose more senior between him and Guinevere?

It was so rare to have this kind of platform where he can show Guinevere that she still has a lot of catching up to do before she could reach his level.

But this master of his was grabbing him this hard to come by opportunity. What an inconsiderate lass she was.
