Her mother had particularly named her that hoping she would have a great life but it didn't happen for her. When she was eight a group of bandits raided her village and slaughtered everyone. She and her mother were left alive on account of their beauty so they could be married to the bandits.
She was reluctant at first but her mother told her to survive. The desire to live transformed her character that is to say she willingly followed the son of the bandit leader in their escapades to robbing people. She strove to be on his good side so they could be married. Being married to a future bandit leader wasn't so bad, right?
It was on one of the raids that they found an unconscious man clothed in the finest robes with a bag filled with treasure. One can only guess what they did next. They robbed the man and decided to toss him into the river to drown. That way they could cover their tracks because this treasure was too unique. The man was most likely from an important family and he might hunt them down after he woke up.
Mingxia watched on as the older boys dragged the man to the river but it was then they saw that tail appear right in front of their eyes. Terrified, they ran off vowing never to speak of it again.
They ran away only stopping two towns over where they divided their loot. Mingxia knew she wouldn't get anything from this loot but she couldn't resist the urge to swipe a beautiful pink pearl among the loot without the bandit's knowledge.
For years she kept the pearl well hidden and found an interesting side effect. This pearl maintained her youthful glow and she was finally living up to her name. Things were falling in place and she was on the right track to marrying her bandit boyfriend.
But this heaven-defying glow had other girls envious placing her under their radar. There were plenty of beautiful girls taken by the bandits but none of them caught the eye of the bandit leader's son.
This made the girls jealous but their jealousy morphed into murderous intent when the bandit leader brought a crimson wedding dress after robbing a wedding procession.
That gorgeous dress was the spark that lit the fumes. One of the girls particularly believed Mingxia's glowing radiance wasn't natural because a lot of cultivators used to pass by their village which meant she had some knowledge of such things.
She wanted what Mingxia had so she instigated the other girls to help her attack Mingxia so they could have a fair chance. While they were distracted she would rob Mingxia and have a better life. The girls were especially clever luring her into the forest on the pretence of spending time with her before her wedding.
As expected the girls beat her to a pulp with their leader searching through her stuff. Mingxia knew what that girl was looking for but she had kept it on her person. They pulled her hair scratched her face and kicked her in the abdomen dozens of times till she was drifting in and out of consciousness.
Just when she thought she was going to die there, a heavenly deity rescued her. Well, that's what she thought at first but it was Qie Ranzhe and beside him was Qie Xieling jeering his father on.
It was then that she opened her blurry eyes and saw the face of her knight in shining armour. She fell helplessly in love with her hero and wanted to follow him. But her hopes were shattered when Qie Ranzhe asked one of the female disciples to take her to the nearest town.
Just when she was about to beg to follow them, Qie Xieling suddenly stopped his father and whispered something. Qie Xieling felt a sense of familiarity when he was close to the girl. What he didn't know was that it was the pearl that on her person which attracted his attention.
Qie Ranzhe didn't argue with Qie Xieling as the kid had a kin sense of his other parent. This is how Mingxia ended up in the Qie sect. Unfortunately for her, the pearl was shattered when she was beaten so the familiar Qi didn't linger for long but her love for Qie Ranzhe grew day by day.
This was the reason she crawled into the sect leader's bed and stayed when others took the compensation. She wasn't asking for anything more other than the privilege to stay by Qie Ranzhe's side. Well, that is until she saw Qie Ranzhe go in and out of that slut Zhao Zhi's room.
At first, she thought it was an innocent interaction between men and overlooked it. But she soon overheard the conversation in the kitchen where Zhao Zhi was implying that Qie Ranzhe kissed him. One can understand how much vinegar she drank from that one conversation.
Qie Ranzhe meant so much more to her than the other harem members who just loved his looks and prestige. This was her one true love. Thinking this happened because Qie Ranzhe was drunk she decided to investigate.
Not only did she find out they slept in the same room for two days straight but some suspicious activity happened the previous night. When she saw Qie Ranzhe straighten Zhao Zhi's clothes with such tender affection in his eyes, she lost it. That was the last nail on the coffin. Zhao Zhi had to go.
This is why she didn't hesitate to approach the monks after sending a talisman transmission to one of them under everyone's noses. As long as they took Zhao Zhi away everything would go back to normal or so she thought.
She managed to rob Dai Yu's jade slab issued to her by Qie Ranzhe which gave her the authority to open the barrier. She stole it from Dai Yu's room and went to the barrier to meet up with the monks.
"All you want is Zhao Zhi, right?" she said clutching the jade slab in her clammy hand. One could tell she was nervous but she also wanted that man gone. It was because of that that she encouraged herself to follow through with her plan.
"Yes, that's right. We only want Zhao Zhi," replied the shortest of the four reassuring her.
Mingxia shook her head and asked, "No one else will get hurt?" She held nothing against the rest of the sect. In fact, she had grown to like them and treat them like family. Her enemy was Zhao Zhi and no one else. She didn't want anything bad to happen to her family and in her mind opening the barrier was a means to protect the sect.
If what the monks said about demons coming after their sect because of Zhao Zhi then handing him over would only serve as her protecting the sect.
"We only want Zhao Zhi so please be reassured miss," replied the monk through gritted teeth. He was starting to lose patients with this girl. She had already decided to betray the sect so what was she hesitating for?
She nodded her head but as she was about to hand it over she heard a loud voice making her drop the jade slab out of nervousness.
"What are you doing?!" yelled Wen Qinxi from a distance.
