After hearing the loud sound, the black-armored soldiers murdering the fleeing villagers stopped in their tracks and looked over at Chen Xiu lying motionlessly under an enormous tree with doubtful expressions.
The gazes of the soldiers then moved from Chen Xiu to Li Yunmu with a hint of alertness.
A white shadow shuttled through the soldiers and, in no more than a breath, all of them exploded, turning into a pile of flesh that fell all over the village.
Brunhilda returned to Li Yunmu's side and said in a dull tone, "These are the people of Asura City. Their commander, whom you have beaten unconscious, is an initial stage flux expert, while the others are just flux experts."
Li Yunmu looked at Chen Xiu lying under the enormous tree and thoughtfully mumbled, "That is to say they are a group of ordinary mortals."
Apart from gods, there were mortals in all the five regions. The mortals were under gods and lived in peace while working happily, which was something that had happened since time immemorial. Even if battles occured between gods, only great circle sage flux experts might face calamity.
In the battles between gods, mortals didn't even have qualifications to act as cannon fodder.
Because of that, the mortals in the five regions could live peacefully.
Lanlou, however, was the region which harnessed the power of belief, and the gods in it were even more protective of their mortals. It was not because the gods took pity on them, but rather because of the power of belief produced by the mortals.
The seven ancient gods had divided Lanlou into seven main cities, and many villages and towns ended up belonging to the seven main cities based on population. Because of that, the strength of the seven ancient gods remained on the same level.
But right then, the subordinates of ancient god Asura had impersonated the soldiers of Ganesh City to massacre the villages of Ganesh City.
What exactly was the reason behind it?
The system appeared like a ghost and said in Li Yunmu's mind, [For the power of belief. It is similar to how the gods always fight for power. Here, they are simply attacking mortals for more power of belief.]
Li Yunmu thought about it and made a rough conjunction. "If they are fighting for power of belief, they should attack mortals, but why are they massacring them?"
[Power of belief is produced from worship. If battles casually broke out between ancient gods, then complaints and resentment would rise in the hearts of people causing the power of belief to become impure.
[If the mortals came to feel that the ancient god they worshiped had abandoned them, they would despair. At that time, they would move their faith to other ancient god, and the power of belief would again become pure.]
"So after the ancient gods of Lanlou suffered defeat, they began to fight over power of belief?"
The system laughed, then said with a hint of disdain in its tone, [Naturally. Normally, the power of belief in Lanlou is distributed equally, and the strength of the ancient gods is also matched equally. When the situation is like that, which ancient god would dare to fight for belief behind the back of others. After all, since they all belong to the same region, the culprit could be found with a simple investigation.
[If any ancient god dared to fight for power of belief and was discovered, they would receive punishment. The other six ancient gods wouldn't allow the culprit ancient god to survive. Thus, the seven ancient gods had maintained the equilibrium.
[Because of this, they chose to join hands with Zeus to attack the Land of Ice and increase their cultivation. As long as they could obtain another region, the seven ancient gods could take a step forward and might even attain the level of master god.]
The position of master god...
Li Yunmu's heart tightened when he looked at the mess of a village, and he realized some things. He truly admired the courage of the seven main ancient gods. If he had not gotten involved in the battle at that time, Zeus and they would have captured and divided their spoils of war, the Land of Ice and the Ocean of Sand.
Regardless of however the captured regions were divided between the seven ancient gods, their cultivation would have increased by another step due to the increased power of belief. Even if they could not attain the realm of master god, their strength would have increased greatly.
At that time, they could have launched a war to capture theAncient Lands, and even Olympus would have been annexed. With the power of belief from the five regions, the seven ancient gods would gradually attain the realm of master gods and even begin to face off against each other.
The one who finally survived among them would possess the power of belief of the five regions. With enough of it, that ancient god might even reach the realm of True God.
When Li Yunmu thought about it like that, everything became clear in his mind. If the situation had proceeded according to their plan when Lanlou and Olympus had joined hands to deal with the Land of Ice and the Ocean of Sand, things would not have ended well.
Only Li Yunmu's existence had put an end to their plans.
After the heavily injured seven main ancient god returned to Lanlou, those of them who were not so heavily injured began to fight over mortals to obtain even more power of belief.
If Li Yunmu did not have to break the curse of the dragon lady, he would not have come to Lanlou. And if that happened, he would not have discovered that the seven ancient gods were fighting over power of belief.
If the situation had continued to develop, only one of the seven ancient gods would have remained. That remaining god would have obtained one region's power of belief and become a master god. Then, he would have launched attacks on other regions and, in almost no time, become the only True God.
At that time, even if the system, who was a True God, returned, it would not be able to defeat that ancient god.
That being said, equilibrium is a good thing. Once some things lose equilibrium, the consequences are disastrous.
Li Yunmu walked to the enormous tree and grabbed the unconscious Chen Xiu, then passed a hint of his divine power into the man's meridians to block them. With that, Chen Xiu was only a slightly formidable mortal.
The mortals who had previously fled watched the events unfolding under the enormous tree and innocently looked at Li Yunmu and Brunhilda.
After a while, under the lead of their village elder, they slowly walked over and knelt down on the ground to kowtow.
"Benefactor, many thanks," village chief said in a mournful voice after raising his head. It revealed a face filled with tears.
Once the villagers behind the elder saw their destroyed homes and slaughtered family members, their tears flowed without stopping. The entire jungle was filled with the sound of weeping.
After a long while, the villagers began to clear up the mess. The strong men lined up the corpses along an open space while some of the women and children cleared the ground of blood and flesh.
Once that was done, they left to get piles of clothes from the wooden houses to cover the dead bodies.
Every one of them was expressionless and had numb eyes as they experienced the biggest blow in their life.
