Chapter 37 – Part 2
While I was happily eating the cake, Frey’s question caught Verdo. He flinched when he met his eyes. Turns out, he hadn’t eaten any.
“If I had known this would be the case, I would have bought a less sweet snack.”
Saying so, Frey smiled apologetically. Seeing that, Verdo stared at him blankly for a moment before shaking his head in surprise.
…To make a proud Verdo like that. His crazily handsome face really couldn’t be hidden.
“I-it’s okay.”
He was probably embarrassed when he stuttered, so Verdo let out a loud laugh. It was so funny that I chuckled. I was also like that when I first saw him, and unlike me, he didn’t seem to get used to Frey’s beauty at all.
“Then, should I ask to bring light snacks for Sir? Would you like some?”
“No. I like sweets too.”
As he said so, he stubbornly chewed the desert in his mouth. Watching him silently, Frey tilted his face toward me before covering his mouth with his hand and quietly whispered to me. His gentle breath tickled my ears.
“I don’t think he does, right?”
In a playful voice, I poked him in the side and told him not to say it.
At that, I looked at him with a look as if telling him, ‘You already know, right?’ since his behavior now was quite rude. Calling people and whispering about them right in front of them was no different from alienating them… It was impossible that Frey, who valued courtesy among others, would not know that.
But, he did it anyway.
When he saw me a little disappointed in him, he handed him an apology right away as if he had been waiting.
“Oh, I’m sorry, Sir Verdo. I was rude.”
As he offered an apology in a polite tone, he shone so brightly that he would be forgiven for anything. Verdo glanced at Frey and calmly replied.
“There’s no need. You were born and raised together since you were young, so you’re like a real family. I think that you can definitely do that.”
“Like a real family.”
He glanced at Verdo with his chin on his hand as if he was intrigued. His appearance was so bewitching that anyone would think he was seducing that person.
“Yes. Like family.”
“Well…”
Frey smiled at me and dragged the end of his words.
How can I not smile with that smile?
Frey looked me in the eye and opened his mouth again, “If Sir wants to think that way, then I won’t stop you.”
“Why would you say that while looking at me? I am not Sir Verdo. I am Yurenia.”
He chuckled and then turned his head away.
“Isn’t the word carelessness the most dangerous?”
“…I never let my guard down.”
“Nothing will change if you don’t.”
“….”
Verdo eventually shut his mouth.
…It doesn’t look like they were fighting, so what’s with this ambiguous atmosphere as if telling me they aren’t fighting?
If Lisandro openly expressed ‘I hate you,’ it would not be difficult to tell whether the two hated each other. Because it was quite subtle, I couldn’t just openly ask them if they hated each other.
Suddenly, in the middle of that ambiguous atmosphere, a messenger bird flew in. It came here because it was embedded with magic so that it could come to wherever I was.
“I think the results are out.”
I took the letter hanging from the messenger bird’s neck and read through the long string of text. In the end, a time and place were written. However, since this was something I hadn’t told Verdo yet, I gently folded the note and smiled.
“What did it say, noona?”
“Get a good rest.”
“Mm.”
Frey blinked, and I nodded.
“Sir Verdo, you can rest well today.”
“…Yes?”
“I have something to talk to Frey. It’s good to go and visit colleagues after a long time!”
And, even before Verdo could refuse, I quickly grabbed Frey’s sleeve and dragged him.
“Eat some delicious food, okay?”
“Ah, I—!”
“Then, Sir, see you later in the evening!”
“Wait a moment…!”
The next moment, Verdo quickly got up and blocked me. Hesitating, he swept his eyebrows and opened his mouth.
“Is it…is it okay to eat dinner together as usual?”
“We can do that if Sir comes before that.”
“Then, I will come in before that.”
I waved to Verdo, who bowed, and took Frey to the drawing room. While it was all right to talk outside, this was just in case so it was better to prepare in advance if possible.
“Noona, can I go to dinner tonight too?”
“Why are you asking that? Of course.”
Since when did he ask if he could come and eat…?
After Yuta prepared a new tea in the drawing room and left, I handed Frey the letter I was holding in my hand. He was also curious in the contents of the letter because he hadn’t yet said if he would fall to it anyway.
“As expected of noona.”
“Just pretending to be nice doesn’t change anything from now on.”
“That’s true. Still, aren’t you forgiving too easily?”
Asking that, he folded the letter neatly and handed it to me.
“To be honest, not all people are like that. But, it is also wrong to spread rumors and exaggerate it like that.”
It was a little out of line to stay still this time because it just didn’t fit my personality. This wasn’t revenge though I was just pricking on those who didn’t believe me.
Since I was innocent, I was going to say that I was leaving because they believed such rumors. Nevertheless, I also felt sorry for those who believed in me. Of course, I would give them the medicine after giving them the disease.
“Don’t be sorry.”
“…Huh?”
“Don’t think about anything else, and only think of yourself, noona. Please, live like that this time. I will worry about those things in your place.”
At that, Frey sat down on the sofa and seductively folded his eyes.
