Chapter 8: The Investors

Karin Vouivre's POV

"I think this dress was too much," I said as I was pulling the short skirt of the dress. The wedding band and engagement ring glistened in the dim light. We got married this morning as Pascal had everything done for us both. All we have to do was to sign the papers in front of the minister. Sasha sighed.

"Why not? This is a stunning look on you," Sasha said before she was looking around me. The pastel green short dress with thin straps was not my idea of sophistication. I felt like I was whoring my body. I shook my head.

"I need to have something appropriate. And I don't think this is appropriate,'' I said before I was rummaging through the wardrobe that Pascal's staff has put together for me. I was sighing before I gave up.

"I don't think I can do this," I said as I was breathing hard. I don't know what I should do but to breathe right now. Sasha rubbed her hand on my back as I was rubbing my face with my hands.

"It's alright. He will be there with you tonight. Your husband will not go anywhere," she said before I was nodding at her.

"Yeah, it was just a dinner. We will sit and eat and chat. Nothing to do, right?" I asked Sasha before she nodded.

"That's my sister-in-law. Now let's find your husband," she said before I was taking my coat and handbag before we were out of the room that I will share with Pascal tonight.

"It was still weird when you said that," I said before we were descending the stairs. Sasha patted my hands before someone was taking a deep breath and another was chuckling.

"Well, you'll be damned," someone said before I was locking my eyes with Pascal's. His stormy eyes were darkened and I think I loved that.

Pascal Vouivre's POV

"You know one of these days, you need to tell your wife the truth, right?" My brother asked me as I was looking at the stairs. Where was she? We will be late to greet my investors at the restaurant.

"I don't think that she knows about our species," I said as Pierre was laughing at me. He patted my shoulder.

"Come on, she grew up here. She knows about the werewolves. So why not the other shifters as well?" Pierre asked. I sighed. It was obvious that she did not know that her landlady was a cat shifter and her best friend was a fox. So, I guess Karin did not know about the werewolves either.

"Whatever. I think I can handle my wife myself, thank you very much," I said before the women were on the stairs. I turned to look at Karin and I'll be damned. I took a sharp breath before Pierre chuckled.

"Well, you'll be damned," he said before I was glaring at him as I turned to look at my wife. She was wearing a pastel green short dress that she covered with her coat. Her red mane was in French twist style and her blue eyes were shining.

We locked our gaze before I felt my eyes darkened with desire for her because she blushed at me. I cleared my throat before Sasha joined Pierre and they were chuckling among themselves. Damn these people!

"You're beautiful, sweetie," I said as I took her hand and kissed it. Karin smiled before she thanked me.

"Well, you're all set. Good luck on the deal," Sasha said before she was linking her arm with my brother. I was nodding at them before we were out of the house and in the garage. I opened the door of my car and helped Karin to slide inside.

I closed the door before I went to the driver's seat and got in. I started the ignition and I sped off to the restaurant. I was looking at the road before I broke the news to her.

"Yes?"

"It was the same restaurant that you used to work at," I said before she stiffed. Then I pulled her hand and kissed her knuckles then she relaxed a bit. She sighed.

"Don't worry. You're not working there anymore so I will be protecting you all the way," I said as I was squeezing her hand. She smiled weakly before she nodded.

"Thank you," she said quietly as I was putting her hand on my thigh. She stiffened but I was caressing her hand that she was relaxing once more.

We arrived at the restaurant as I parked the car in the parking spot. I got out of the car before I was beside Karin's door. I opened it and I offered her my hand.

"Thank you, my fair gentleman," she said as she was smiling at me. I smiled back.

"Your fair gentleman? I thought I am your husband?" I said before she laughed. Karin's laughter was nice, sweet, and contagious. I wanted to hear it again.

'Ours,'

'Claim her,'

'Take her,'

'Ravish her,'

My dragon was stirring inside me before I reigned them in. I cannot let loose now as the investors will be here. I was breathing hard before Karin touched my chest. Her touch soothed my dragon.

"Are you okay?" She asked before I was looking at her. I smiled.

"Yes. Let's go. I just hope that my investors will not be mad now that we're late," I said as I was escorting Karin inside and we were greeted by the new hostess. I told the name of our investors before she brought us to them.

"Thank you," I said to the hostess before she blushed. Then I felt Karin tensed beside me. I chuckled lowly as I know that my wife was getting jealous out of nowhere.

"Ah, Mr. Vouivre. You're finally here," Wyatt Jones was greeting me before he stood up and shook my hand. I smiled at him before he turned to my wife.

"And you must be Mrs. Vouivre. How are you doing, ma'am?" He asked before he was introducing his wife as well.

"This is my wife, Catherine," Mr. Jones said before Catherine was kissing my wife's cheeks.

"How are you, dear?" She asked before Karin smiled.

"I'm fine, thank you," she replied before we were all seated. Wyatt was asking for the menu and they were getting our orders. I was smiling as I saw that Karin and Catherine were chatting.

"Well, I was surprised to know that you married, Vouivre. So, how did you guys meet?" Wyatt asked me as I was looking at Karin. I smiled as I was telling him how she was my neighbor and we have been knowing each other for so long.

"Ah, how romantic. I can see that you have found her even before you know it," Wyatt said as he was sipping on his wine. If you must know, Wyatt was a cat shifter and he knows that I was a dragon shifter.

"What can I say? I was just waiting for the right time," I said as I was bantering with Wyatt. He laughed and the night could not get any better. We discussed the detail of the deal and Wyatt was agreed to sell it to me.

"To a new beginning!" Wyatt toasted before we were clinking our glasses and drank our wines. I was eyeing Karin before I felt my eyes darkened. This dinner was far from over as I know tonight will be the night that I shared my bed with my wife for the first time.
