Chapter 4: The Best Friend

Emily Chloros' POV

I was breathing heavily as I was looking at Jonathan. I don't know what happened but those eyes…it brought the intense memory of my past. I don't want to believe it but I was looking at the evidence itself right now.

Could it be?

"Jonathan?" I asked as I was blinking at him before Jonathan was turning his back to me. I wanted to see his handsome face but he was ignoring me.

"You should go," he rasped as he was rubbing his face. I hate to see him being in distress when he was being in that condition because of the thugs that he fought them off. Jonathan cared about me and here I was thinking that he might be related to that monster.

"I should go. I'm sorry. Go home, stay safe," he said before he was off from the back alley. I was calling after him but he was running fast on his feet right now. I was looking at him before I decided that I will go after him.

Sorry, Jonathan, I cannot leave you alone now.

I was after him when he was dodging the crowd and the blaring clubs that Nicosia has to offer. I was looking around before I was arriving in the forest. It was dark and I saw that Jonathan's copper hair was on the other side of the park. I wanted to call after him but something was happening.

Jonathan was shedding his clothes!

I was trying to pull my eyes from his sinful body but I cannot. It was like I was glued to see him right now, undressing when I was supposed to look away. I did not know what to do but I was looking at him.

He was removing every clothes and then something was cracking. I was looking at his muscled body before it grew something. Was that fur? I was closing my mouth as I was shocked to see that Jonathan was changing into something else that was not human.

Jonathan was a fox shifter.

I was falling to the ground on my knees as I was looking at the place that my best friend once stood. Not it was replaced by that fox shifter. I don't even know that my best friend was a shifter in secret. I was gasping before the fox was putting his clothes in his mouth and went into the forest. I wanted to go but I don't think I want to follow him now.

So, I ran home.

I ran so face that I don't care who was in front of me. I was pushing people to the side as tears were in my eyes.

"Hey, watch it!"

"Move aside, dude,"

"Hey, watch where you're going!"

Some tourists were shouting obscenities to me as I was making my way to my apartment before I was unlocking the door. I was shaking but I stilled my hands to unlock the door and I was opening it before I was inside the house and I was looking around the house.

I think I have to meditate on the things that I view tonight.

Jonathan Alepou's POV

I was running through the forest as the winds were breezing on my fur. My fox was happy as I let him out and ran out in the forest. I don't know if I was okay but I know that people will not kill me since I have my collar.

I know what you're thinking. Why the fox shifter has to be careful nowadays? Well, I can only say that we blame my dad for everything. 13 years ago, he killed one family, a husband, and a wife that they have borrowed some money from him.

My dad was known for not having too much patience in them. So, he decided to have his followers devoured them. I saved one of them as she was hiding under the table. I don't think she would remember me now since I have been changing since I was a young boy. My eyes were not orange as it should because I concealed it with melanin so the orange will be more like brown in daylight.

Well, unless I was being provoked and someone threatened to kill one of mine. And tonight has shown to me that Emily Chloros was meant something for me. I sighed as I was coming to the creek that I always sipped some water before I went back.

Something snapped in the forest and before I knew it, I was looking at my sister who was in her fox form as well.

'You should not be here,' I said to her through the mind link. It was not the specialty for the werewolves. Other shifters have them but within their species. And since my sister and I were the last fox shifters in the world…

I shook my head as I was drinking the water again. My sister came closer to me before she was sipping on the water as well from the creek.

'Spotting something interesting today,' she started as I was licking my canine. I don't want to hear her story because it was boring usually.

'It was about your mate,' she said that made me stopped in my track. I was looking at her before she was coming closer to me.

'She knew,'

'What do you mean?'

'She saw you shifted into a fox and then she ran away,' she said before I was cursing in my head. Damn it! Now she will hate me.

Because nothing screamed hatred for the fox shifters more than my mate, Emily Chloros. She must be upset that I don't tell her the truth. We have been friends for more than 10 years and I was supposed to tell her now.

But I was afraid because she detested them and I was one of them. I will never forgive myself if she shut herself out of my life now. I think I have to find her, ASAP.

'Where is she now?' I asked my sister before she told me that my mate went home. I guess I have to make an impromptu visit then.

'Don't wait up,' I said as I was biting the clothes that I had earlier before my sister was smirking at me in her mind.

'What do you think I would? Send my love and kisses to my sister-in-law!' Dana said as I was rolling my eyes before I was running toward the apartment that Emily stayed now. I was running like I have hunters behind me because I was afraid if Emily was making some harsh decisions when she felt like it.

I cannot risk it. I have to get there as soon as I could.

I shifted near the forest before I was putting my clothes on and I was running down the pavement to her apartment. It was a busy night since it was Friday night and I wanted to get to her as soon as I could.

But these stupid tourists and locals mingling were making it harder for me to past through.

"Excuse me, sorry. I have to pass through. Sorry," I said as I was making my way out of the city before I was running down to her door. I knocked on it before I was listening to her heartbeat going faster.

"Emily, open up!" I said before I felt that she was going to the bedroom. Shit! I think I have to get inside the unusual way then.
