Chapter 55：Rocket Science?

After getting back and putting all the food away I find myself putting the multi-leveled cat tree together. Well, trying to anyway. I could write programs around people, bring down entire cities but putting a cat tree together? It was like rocket science...

After several hours, Chip played like a real cat. No matter how pissed I got while putting it together, watching him play was so worth it. "Chip, have you had any progress in searching the weird markings/language?"

Chip Freezes mid-scratch and says "I have found a lead and I'm currently getting closer. Hopefully, we'll know something soon." I give him a small smile and say "Hopefully. I picked our new place and we will start moving next week okay?"

"Okay sounds good to me! Are you going to tell Alec?" Chip asks jumping to one of the highest peaks. "Hmmm, probably. Even if I didn't, I feel like he'll have no problem with finding us again." Chip nods his little head in agreement and curls up.

I walk back to the computers pulling everything back up and sigh when I see that the hacker still hasn't made a move. What was he up to? And what was he after? I sigh and push away deciding not to let the guy get into my head. He was obviously playing games...

I looked into the information on the hackers currently known in and around South Korea but none of them seem to match with this guy... so he was flying under the radar or he was a new player. I order several large boxes and get to packing.

One thing was for sure, he knew who I was and where I was living. So the first thing I need to do is move, then I will start hunting him. I don't like being the prey... it was about time this prey becomes the predator once again. I crank up the music and begin packing.

"I'm sorry to bother you on short notice but I need to ask a few questions and I'm running out of time," Alec says to the other man sitting in front of him. The man looks irritated but nods his head saying "It must be important if you tracked me down. What has happened?"

Alec gives him a grateful look before saying "I've found a woman Nero... She's unlike any other woman I've ever met and I want to protect her but she seems to be connected to this curse. Are their others like us?"

The man named Nero freezes as his eyes flash. "You've found a Charmer?" Alec nods his head and Nero leans forward looking excited. "Charmers are rare among our kind and should be kept safe... I won't get into everything they are right now because I'm concerned about your other question. Yes, there are more like us and they all don't play by the rules."

Nero stands and begins to pace as he says "They fully embrace the monsters inside them and do horrible things... and if he has found out that she's a Charmer? Quickly take me to her. We need to make sure she's safe. We mustn't let him get her."

Nero pauses and seems to calm a bit as he nods his head in agreement. "Long ago there were two clans that were known as 'guardians'. They were in charge of keeping the order and the 'blue bloods' in the order safe. They were a fierce bunch and no one had a chance at fighting against them but one of the clans wished for more power and that's when everything went wrong."

Nero walked over to the dark window and looked out at the night sky. "They found a dark art and opened a door that should have never been opened. Both our clans were cursed and now we walk this world for eternity with no rest. The other clan attacked the clan who brought the curse out into the world and buried the book and the demon heart... to never be found again."
