Chapter 57：History Lesson

I arched a dark brow at him as I look between him and Nero before shaking my head no. "Sorry but I'm not going with you. As you can see I'm in the middle of moving... How about you explain things now?" Chip jumps up and lands on my shoulders as his black tail whips back and forth making it clear to the other two where he stood.

Alec looks like he's about to blow his top until Nero walks over and places a hand on his shoulder before saying "If you do not wish to come with us, at least allow us to set up a few things for you at your new place to keep you safe. As you can see, with our kind we don't need to have a location or invitation in order to just pop in."

I take a hard look at Nero before nodding. "I'll agree to that but only that." I look back to Alec and give him a hard look before saying "I appreciate you wanting to keep me safe but I won't be thrown over your shoulder and locked into your house caveman style... got it?"

Alec snorts and turns around running his hand through his dark hair. Nero then begins filling me in on everything as my grip on reality begins to loosen. "Okay, so let's say that everything is as you say... what does it mean if he now has them both? What is he wanting to do?"

Alec and Nero exchange a look before Nero says "Nothing good... The demon heart is not really a heart. It's a stone that acts like a key to another dimension or world. The things that come from that world need bodies to exist in this world. Like the beast that Alec and I have, they need us to survive in this world."

"Once that portal is opened they will begin slipping through and infecting the humans here and not all humans will be able to control the demons. That or they will enjoy the power the demons can give and will begin searching for more." I'm left in shock as everything starts making sense.

I look at both of them again before asking "Will I be infected as well?" Alec and Nero both shake their heads as Nero says "No, you are a Charmer. I will get into that more a bit later but for right now you don't need to worry about being infected." I nod my head as I get lost in my thoughts.

"Wait... the demons that come over... are they more powerful or something? Why can't you just kill them?" Nero sighs and says "That's the thing, the stronger the demon, the stronger the host needs to be. If the host isn't strong enough the demon and the host will die so it really just depends. Plus there isn't a way to kill the demons without killing the very people they've infected."

Damn... well there went my plan to blow everything up. "So it sounds like the only thing we can do at this point is to get the book back before he figures out how to open the portal right?" I ask looking back to them. They look at each other again before nodding.

"Honestly it's a long shot. This guy clearly knows what he's doing and if I had to take a guess... I'd say he won't resurface until he's accomplished what he's set out to do." Alec says looking towards the dark windows.

"You mean he'll stay low until he opens up the pits of hell? Then come skipping out to check out his handy work?" I ask in disbelief as Nero shakes his head "It's not the hell you're thinking of. These beast come from another world... a dark world where power and destruction rule. We just call them demons because of how they look and act."
