Chapter 84：Explain

"I didn't like how things ended when you left..." I say looking around the building. Alec looks at me with surprise before giving me a warm smile saying "Follow me." He takes my hand and leads me to the stairs but stops and turns to a man guarding the entrance.

"Get someone to clean that up," Alec says waving at the man he just killed. The guard nods his head and calls for someone else as Alec pulls me up the stairs and into a large office. After Chip walks in Alec shuts the door. Alec watches Chip with amazement.

"Looking good Chip... I'm really liking this new look." Alec says reaching out and stroking Chip. I smile when Chip leans into him. I noticed it a while back but Chip will only allow Alec and myself to pet him. He runs off from others or threatens them with his claws.

"Maya did a really good job. This way I'm able to help keep her safe." Chip says as he jumps up on the large sofa. Chip frowns when he finds that his bigger body no longer fits like it used to. I giggle at the sight when he does his best to fit.

Alec pulls me to him and gives me a gentle kiss on my forehead. "I was planning to come back this weekend. Things have been crazy here and I haven't had much time. I'm sorry for getting so angry and storming out as I did."

I shake my head and say "I didn't consider how you feel and I've been very onesided. I haven't really dated before so... So sometimes I'm not aware of things." I say looking at everything but him. He gives me a low chuckle as he says "I've got all the time in the world for you to figure it out. I just want you to be honest with me."

"I believe the Hacker is indeed behind all this. These rules have been set by him and sent via email. Any City that doesn't comply will be taken down and will fall under another Ruler. My hands are tied but I will try my best to 'Comply' without putting the people here in danger."

I frown as I look out the window overlooking the City. "Each City will have a Ruler and the same rules?" Alec shakes his head while saying "No, well kinda. Each Ruler has a set number of rules they have to enforce but the rest is up to the City Ruler." I nod my head as I start to understand.

"So no Presidents or Kings... just Rulers. What if people living in other Cities don't like their Rulers?" Alec frowns and says "They can apply for a transfer.... or escape. Either way, it's hard and dangerous." I sigh but I'm grateful Alec decided to run our City. I shudder when I think about some of the other "Rulers" and the way they would run things.

I look back to Alec "How do you have Wifi?" Alec gives me a knowing smile and says "Each City has Wifi but with you living so far out it may not reach. I can have men look into it." He walks over and pulls me back into his strong arms.

"I feel like the Hacker is doing this to keep control over everything..." I say staring at the window. Alec frowns and lifts my chin so that I'm looking at him. "We will find a way to fight this and put all of this to a stop."

I look into his dark eyes and know he means what he's saying but my gut tells me it won't be that easy. He sees my look and watches me with confusion. "And if we can't stop it? Is this our new reality?" I ask with concern. Alec frowns but finds himself lost for words. Was this our new reality??
