Chapter 261 - Quite The Turn Of Events

I opened my eyes to find myself lying down on a bed. My gazes obviously went towards the ceiling first which appeared white with a fan spinning slowly as it was pretty cold.

I removed the cover and sat up to realise that I was in the infirmary. I let out a sigh of relief while glancing around the empty infirmary. It was quite peaceful but the frequently slow sound of the fan rotating above me was weird.

I was trying to make sense of what was happening till that point because the mind was a complete mess and I couldn't think straight. I was sweating slightly and my breathing was unnatural due to the dream I saw a few moments ago.

Everything was apparently fine. Though the intense pressure of dread again washed over me as I slowly recalled my predicament regarding Shiraishi and the contract in general.

I remember the feeling that washed over me when I realised what happened to me.

That was a weird dream I had.

My anxiety and insecurities were revealing themselves in the form of something that I could visualise. Though it was more like fragments of my past which led me to become the way I was.

Not only the dream was weird but the way the mark on my hand reacted out of nowhere was even more unnatural. And it was the first time the sign reacted aggressively and the pain was strong enough to make me pass out.

But the magnitude of that reaction made me sure about one thing though I needed to perform some tests and observe their results to be 100% about my claim at that moment.

Also something caught my eye and it wasn't anything particular. It was just the first name of Moriko, though it surprised me a bit and I was expecting it at all. It makes sense why Shiraishi calls her 'Adacchin'.

We sure live in a small world.

I was sitting on the bed quietly contemplating all the things that happened so far and a few of my life decisions till that point. After all, overthinking in my free time was my favourite thing to do.

Though my attention turned away from my thoughts as I heard the door to the room slid open and the sound of footsteps closing in on me.

"How are you?" I heard a soft voice call out to me as my eye shifted towards the voice only to notice Moriko and Tsūmen walking towards me. I nodded my head and replied in a calm tone, "I'm good."

"Ayo dude! What happened?" Tsūmen asked with a hint of concern in his voice as I just smiled awkwardly and shook my hand, "I don't know, I just passed out."

Though I was sure that I wasn't out for much long since that happened at the end of the second last period and I woke up a few minutes ago so that meant I was out for less than an hour at max.

"By the way, your girlfriend didn't come to visit you?" Tsūmen asked me in such a manner that it sounded like he was taunting me but in reality he was curious. His tone made Moriko's eyes shift towards him.

Glancing back at me with an awkward smile on her face, she replied in low tone, "Oh I called her but she was acting like she doesn't care."

"Eh? Did you two get into a fight or something?" Hearing her say that, Tsūmen immediately hurled that question towards me to which I just let out a sigh and replied, "Not really… well I don't care, to be honest."

"Damn… isn't it a bit early to say these things?" Tsūmen said with narrowed eyes while a sarcastic smile formed on his lips. I decided to ignore that and changed the topic, "Let's just go home, it's time."

I was about to get up from the bed but Moriko quickly rushed towards me and pushed me back from my shoulders as she said, "Woah, Woah… let's ask Nurse mam first."

"You dipshit! Of course she had let me go. It's home time." I replied in an irritated tone to which she glared at me. Looking at us, Tsūmen stepped in and said, "Ye, but let's just inform her that we're leaving."

I know that he and Moriko said the same thing yet he said it in a better way than her. I nodded affirmatively and said, "I like the way he phrased it."

"Come on… really?" Moriko stared at me with an annoyed look in her eyes. I gave her a silly shrug and said, "Thanks for helping me back there."

"Just returning the debt." She said in a plain tone but I was well aware about what she was referring to.

I wasn't expecting her to put it like that. Even though she masked the whole thing with her paying back my debt, I doubt that she would still have helped me out of her sheer goodwill. She was altruistic.

I knew what kind of girl she was.

"Ah, yes she came to our class to give back your things." Tsūmen nodded and chuckled as I glanced at Moriko who still wore an irritated expression on her face.

Since it was way past home time, I thought about the hassle of going back to the class and bringing back my bag but before I could say anything, Tsūmen raised his right hand in which he was holding my bag and laughed, "I brought your bag, don't worry fam."

"True homie." We exchanged nods and Moriko just rolled her eyes since she wouldn't understand the bro-code.

Though from what happened that day, I was pretty sure about one thing and somehow it made me feel a bit relieved but at the same time, a new set of problems arose in my mind. I didn't know at that point if it was for the better or worse.

This is quite the turn of events, I suppose.
