"Hows my wife's day went, Al?" I ask enthusiastically before sipping from my coffee.
"Mr. Damari…" Albert clears his throat, seemingly hesitating to report to me.
I put my cup down the table and frown. I've been to a series of meetings the whole day. I've also finished reviewing some contracts and sign all the documents that need my signature. That's why it takes me this late to check up on my sweetheart. I'm expecting some cute news about my wife but I'm feeling somethings not good from Albert's tone.
"What is it?" I prompt while already moving, snatching my coat and leaving my office.
"Mr. Damari, someone asked Miss Diana out for dinner. Since you strictly ordered me to not interfere with your day and just wait for your call, I only able to inform you now. I'm currently following them towards the restaurant the guy chose."
"Who's the guy?" I ask harshly and loosen my tie while I wait for the lift to arrive at the basement.
"I've already checked on him. He's Miss Diana's classmate. His name is Edward Pierce, an eighteen-year-old quarterback and a son of the Mayor in the city."
"Past records, Albert." I order while already leaving the building and waving at Desmond to drive faster.
"He seems a good guy. No criminal records so far except with his reputation towards women. He seemed to be a heartbreaker. Although he's not a two-timer, he usually initiates the breakup from the relationship way too suddenly, usually without proper reason whatsoever."
I grip my phone rather tightly, the device actually gives out a crunching sound. That bastard! I know what his agenda is. He's only after sex! Maybe he's going after innocent girls. My sweetheart Diana! He's not worthy of her. He's dirty! How dare him attempt to soil my pure wife!
"Send me the name to what restaurant they're eating at."
"Understood, Mr. Damari."
I put my phone away and look out the window at the passing scenery and honking cars. My head is full of dread. Although I'm not a virgin anymore, I've never played with women's emotions or engaged into a sex-only relationship either. Besides, right after knowing my sweetheart, I've abstained from sex and is now faithfully waiting for her to grow old enough to satisfy my needs.
Even if I hadn't met Diana this early and would've met her in later years where she won't be pure by that time anymore, I certainly wouldn't mind. But I'm also hoping she'll be spared from the heartaches of what these scumbags bring. I don't even mind if along the way of my waiting, she'll find herself falling in love with someone else. I believe that once my own time arrives, I'm sure, will be the start of our forever after.
With that last thought, I start to relax and my agitation eases down. I trust my sweetheart's judgement but she also can't blame me if I want to protect her from any potential physical and emotional damage. I fish out my phone when it vibrates and check Albert's message before pocketing it back again.
I emerge from the car as soon as Desmond pulls up at the entrance. I've already spotted the couple from the time I enter the restaurant and choose to sit a few tables away from them, out of Diana's line of sight. I'm not interested on their conversation so I'll just sit here and watch by the distance as if I'm Diana's chaperone.
