Inside the elevator, two people stood next to each other, facing the entrance and drowning in silence which was about to be broken in the next second.
"What do you think must have happened?" Lina inquired as she continued staring at the metallic doors before her.
Benji did not turn towards her but gave her an answer after giving it some thought.
"We'll know soon enough." His reply did not satisfy her, making her scoff but before she could utter another word, the elevator came to a halt at the floor they were supposed to reach.
As the doors parted, Lina glanced at him from the corner of her eye then strode out of the metallic chamber they were inside until now.
'She's pissed.' The assistant could deduce after the single glance he was granted just earlier.
Thus not daring to delay her, he hurried out to keep up with her stride.
The entire top floor was silent and the only sounds now emanating around them were those of the clicking of heels against the marbled flooring which was coming from the direction of the elevator.
The secretaries only had to lift their heads to take a look at who it was and finding that it was Miss Lina, they wondered if something was wrong.
They knew that she was the cousin of the VP but she often stayed in the Marketing Department without disturbing their VP all the time.
She also was good at her job according to the information they had obtained from the group chats of the company.
Therefore, they had a good opinion about Miss Lina who had appeared here for the second time today after the meeting that was held this morning.
Lina was walking towards Wade's room and nodded at the ladies as she passed them by.
This suave action which was smooth and seamless caused these ladies to blush as they hurriedly lowered their heads to focus on their job.
'Cute.' Lina chuckled inwardly as she looked away and focused her gaze on the door which was just a few steps away from her.
The desk closest to the VP's office belonged to his personal assistant, Kirk who looked up while scrunching his nose in annoyance when he heard those clicking heels getting closer to him.
'Who pissed him off?' Lina raised her brow when she noticed this strange look on his face.
However, when Kirk realized that it was Lina and not the one who had been annoying him until now, his entire demeanor shifted and a smile formed on his face as he rose from his seat.
"What does Miss Lina need?" He did not forget to speak formally to her after noticing that the secretaries were sneaking peeks at them.
"I have something to say to the VP." She replied, continuing this charade after understanding what he was trying to do.
Since none of the other employees knew of her true identity in Obsidia, she was acting out the part of an employee who was working here like the rest of them.
Witnessing this scene from the sidelines, Benji applauded their acting skills but soon turned his head in a certain direction when he felt someone's presence which had not been there before.
His eyes narrowed at the face he saw and just as he was about to inform Lina about it, this person had done the job for him.
"Why is she allowed to meet the VP when even I cannot!?" A sneering voice that concealed notes of anger arose from a certain direction.
Lina turned in the direction of the waiting lounge on this floor and furrowed her brows when she came face to face with the old woman about whom she had learned a lot during lunch.
"What is it, Assistant Kirk?" Jasmine Tong ignored Lina's presence as she turned to the tall assistant who had blocked her from entering the VP's office earlier.
She had intended to meet VP Luo after lunch but this assistant had asked her to wait after revealing that his boss was busy in a meeting.
"Why is she allowed to enter right after you stopped me?" She interrogated while raising her voice just a few decibels.
It was clear that she did not think too highly of either Lina or Assistant Kirk and at this moment, she was asserting her dominance over them.
The only reason she had sat in the waiting lounge was that Assistant Kirk had said that she could meet the VP only after his video conference with an important figure was done.
Knowing that there was only one individual who was capable of commanding the VP, she did not interrupt as she wished to get on the good side of this person.
However, her patience shattered when she saw a mere consultant of the Marketing Department walking towards his office with her chin held high.
It further infuriated her when she witnessed how the assistant who had blocked her from entering the office was now speaking to her in such a cordial tone.
Therefore, without letting Lina Yang get what she could not, she had hurried to stop them in their steps.
On the other hand, Kirk had been struggling to keep his calm ever since this old lady had shown up.
Every time she appeared, she caused a scene until she could meet the VP, and each time, she had the same question for him.
Wade was fed up with her so he had specifically instructed him to not let her inside if it wasn't anything related to her clothing line.
Therefore, as soon as she arrived at the top floor, he had not hesitated before lying that the VP was busy in a conference.
The glint of surprise that flashed across her eyes made it easy for him to deduce that she had misunderstood his words but he did not attempt to correct it.
He was glad that she was well-behaved and went to the waiting lounge, insisting on seeing the VP once he was done with his conference.
However, he knew that just like the previous times, she would leave after waiting for a short while.
What he did not expect was Lina's appearance which seemed to have triggered Jasmine Tong, causing her to rush over and interrogate him.
"Didn't you say that VP Luo was busy in a conference with our President?" She scowled at him, proving that she had indeed misunderstood the excuse he had made to keep her out of his Boss's office.
Hearing these words, Lina raised her brow at Kirk and Benji had a smirk that graced his lips.
'Ohh… So the VP is busy with the President?' Her mocking thoughts were clear on her face, making Kirk cough as he averted his gaze sheepishly.
Lina shook her head before ignoring the woman who had not looked at her from the time she had appeared in this place.
"I shall take my leave." She announced which brought a victorious smile to Mrs. Tong's face.
"Hmph!" She harrumphed but her smug face turned dark when she saw Lina heading towards the VP's door rather than the elevator which was on the other side of the floor.
Her body moved on instinct and before she knew it, she clutched Lina's hand, stopping her from taking another step.
Lina's body which was moving forward jerked before coming to a halt due to the resistance she was experiencing.
Lowering her head, she glanced at her forearm which was in the grip of a slightly wrinkled hand, causing her to frown before she looked up at the one who had stopped her.
"Let go." She commanded, a certain chill in her voice that had never been heard before.
Benji and Kirk had a sullen look on their faces, glaring at the hand which was gripping Lina at this moment.
Noticing this change in their demeanor, the secretaries jumped out of their seats, worried for Miss Lina as they had heard about Mrs. Tong's violent tendencies.
Miss Lina was still too young to go against someone as powerful as Mrs. Tong which was making them fret about what might happen next.
The soft but stern words that had been spoken a moment ago led Mrs. Tong to loosen her grip subconsciously.
Lina rubbed the part which had been in the older lady's grasp and she frowned at the slight mark which was beginning to form.
'I didn't even apply that much pressure.' Mrs. Tong frowned as well, feeling that this girl was just too weak.
"I was only stopping you from getting fired." She spoke up, straightening her back while pretending to be concerned about her.
However, when Lina looked into her eyes, the older lady averted her gaze which indicated that she too did not believe what she had just said.
'That's what I thought..' She sneered before turning around once again.
