Lina's eyes opened slowly and the first thing that she saw was the blank white ceiling.
The harsh light in the room caused her eyes to wince and she blinked a couple of times to adjust to the sudden change from that dark and wet place to this bright room.
Her body ached all over and it felt as though she had just been hit by a truck.
She tried to sit up straight but her hands were weak.
'What happened to me?' Lina frowned and glanced at her hands which had IV drips attached to it.
Suddenly she felt her body move with ease. So she turned to face the person who had just reached out to help her sit up.
A sad smile was on the opposite person's face as they fluffed a pillow and placed it behind her back.
Just as she was about to speak, she heard a voice coming from her other side.
"How are you feeling, kiddo?"
She turned to face the man with the dirty blonde hair that was staring at her.
The hand that moved towards her was dodged on a reflex.
Her eyes roamed around the room and saw the faces that were staring back at her as though she was some animal at the zoo.
"Who are you?" The words slipped out of her mouth before she could even think any further.
Everyone in the room froze when they heard what she had just said.
Wade, Wayne, Stacy and Ace were the only ones inside the hospital ward right now.
Patrick had gone to handle some matters while Kirk and Benji were sent to run on errands for Obsidia's official business.
"Wade, go get the doctor quick!" Ace yelled when he saw the look Lina was giving them.
As though she had seen them for the very first time in her life.
The panic caused Wade's foot to stumble but he hurriedly picked himself up and ran outside.
Not bothering about the nurses and other patients who were staring at him, he made his way to the nurses' station and asked for Lina's attending doctor to be summoned immediately.
The doctor was paged instantly and he rushed over, the moment he received the message.
"Did she wake up?" The doctor entered the room with Wade and two nurses following after him.
"Yes, doc but it seems as though she has no recollection of who we are." Stacy narrated what had just happened.
The doctor nodded and came forward to look at her condition.
He and the nurses read the charts and discussed amongst themselves.
While her family was dreading what the result of the doctor's review would be, Lina on the other hand was now panicking inside her mind.
'Those words just blurted out of my mouth because I wanted to see how they would react to the news of my amnesia.' She felt like kicking herself for making such a stupid move.
The moment she had seen her uncle Ace's face, she suddenly thought of the MCs that would conveniently get amnesia whenever they met with any disaster.
So she too wanted to give it a try to see how they would behave when they realized that she had no memories.
But when she saw how terrified they were, she felt like a jerk and now was trying to rectify her mistakes.
'Uncle Ace is going to kill me for sure!' She glanced at the man who was making phone calls just as few feet away from her.
'I think I already know who he is talking to. Mommy must be throwing a fit right now.' She shook her head.
Her guess was right because Ace was on the call with his sister, Diane.
She had asked him to give her live updates on Lina's condition.
Gathering her courage before things got even worse, she spoke up with her still hoarse voice.
"Um…" She began and instantly the chaotic room went into a hushed silence.
The doctor and the nurses, her cousins and her uncle all turned in her direction and waited for her to speak up.
'I'm sorry for doing this, I have no other choice but to use this trick!' She apologized in her mind and then scrunched her brows together.
She held her head and then dropped to the bed once again.
"Ahh… " She groaned and rolled around on the bed.
"Doctor, I think my memories are coming back! I remember who these people are!" She stared at the bewildered doctor and then turned to Stacy.
"Stacy?"
"Brother Wayne and Wade?"
"Uncle Ace?"
She pointed to each of them as she called out their names.
"I think that sudden headache brought my memories back! Thank you, doctor!" She cheerfully exclaimed to the doctor.
But she did not dare to turn towards the four people who had become living statues.
Right now, one of them was even a fire breathing dragon statue.
Ace stepped forward with a grim face and leaned towards the patient on the bed.
"I am going to get hit, aren't I?" She grinned awkwardly at the man peering down at her.
The smile that emerged on his face was enough to make her hide underneath the blanket and not lift her head up.
Everyone had now realized that Lina was just playing with them but the last one to get the memo was Wayne.
"You were acting just now?" He scowled at Lina with his finger pointed at her nose.
"Do you know how scared we were?" Wade questioned her with a deep frown plastered on his face.
"I'm sorry. I just wanted to-" She couldn't continue her words because she heard a furious voice coming from Ace's phone.
"You have been unconscious for THREE DAYS and the first thing you do when you wake up is play a prank on us!?" Diane Yang spoke as she choked a sob that had come out.
Lina froze and the words of apology faded away when she heard this.
"Three days? What three days?" She pulled the phone from Ace and asked her mom.
"The three days that you were lifeless on that bed you are in right now! The three days that none of us slept in peace because we were in constant fear that would not wake up ever again!" Diane yelled, her words contained a mixture of anger and fear.
"No… How is that possible? I remember I fainted when I reached my office. Today!" Lina shook her head, unwilling to accept this shocking revelation that her mother had made.
"Nana, Aunt is not lying." Stacy held her hand and gently rubbed it to soothe the panic that appeared in her eyes.
Lina's eyes widened and then she looked at everyone in the room who solemnly nodded their heads to prove that Diane wasn't lying.
Wade stepped forward and showed the date that was displayed on his phone.
"You went to Phoenix Mall on Monday morning and it is Thursday afternoon right now." He pointed to the 2 PM that was glaring back at her.
"No.. No… " She kept mumbling.
Lina shook her head, her heartbeat was rising once again and she started hyperventilating.
The doctor quickly gave her an injection and put her back to sleep.
--
While Lina was sleeping once again, Patrick Yang entered the ward.
It had been a few hours since the doctor had left after making sure that there was nothing physically wrong with her.
"The matters of the brain are hard to comprehend. We will have to ask her what was it that made her unable to wake up for so long." He shook his head and left with his nurses.
Ace told Patrick what the doctor had informed them.
"She's physically fit but there is something that is messing with her mentally." He held Pat's hand and brought him to sit by Lina's bed while he stood beside him and held his shoulders.
The kids had left after Ace had ordered them to and now it was just Lina and her two uncles in the room.
Pat placed his head on Ace's chest and sighed while looking at the figure sleeping.
"How long do you plan on sleeping, Nana?" He whispered as he touched her cheeks that were still pale.
Three days of taking constant turns to watch over her had made their faces pale and haggard too.
But they never let their exhaustion show in front of the kids.
A few hours passed and Lina finally opened her eyes once again.
Ace was sleeping on the couch and Patrick was holding her hand as he sat by her bed.
"Uncle Pat?" She timidly called out to him.
When he heard her voice, Patrick rushed to call the doctor but Lina held his hand to stop him.
"Why was I asleep for three days?" She asked as tears formed in her eyes.
Patrick wiped the tears that streamed down and hugged her tight.
This aggrieved voice, Patrick had last heard when Lina had hurt herself while playing as a child.
The wounded and worried voice pricked his heart but there was no answer that he could give her because even the doctors did not know why she had been asleep for so long.
"It was always just a couple of hours so why the sudden increase in time." She held his jacket and sobbed.
Hearing her whimpers, Ace was awakened from his light sleep.
He carefully sat on the other side of the bed and hugged them together.
After a few minutes, Lina had finally calmed down and she looked at their solemn faces.
"What did the doctor say?" She asked, almost afraid to hear what their answer might be.
"Physically? You are perfect." Ace smiled at her.
"But?" She was not dumb to not get the meaning hidden in his answer.
"Mentally, they do not know." Patrick answered this time.
Lina frowned, not liking this answer one bit.
"Nana, your doctor told us that you were fighting an inner battle inside your mind. Can you tell us what it was?" Ace tried to cajole the answer out of her.
"Why are you so scared of speeding cars?" Patrick, the man without an ounce of subtlety asked with a blank face.
Ace stared at Pat and then ignored him.
'What is important now is whether Nana is willing to let us in.' He decided to handle Patrick's big mouth later.
