Chapter 155 - My Innocent Kitten

Lina and Reuben turned towards the source of the sound and found a shadow walking in their direction.

"Oh my God! I hope I did not interrupt you two!" The woman screamed when she saw two figures sitting too close together.

She hastily covered her eyes with her palms and turned around.

'Did I just interrupt a kiss?' Her face turned red as she thought of this possibility.

Reuben glared at the woman and then slowly retracted his palm which had been caressing Lina's cheek.

'Just what we needed right now, another distraction!' He cursed at the unknown woman and then turned to Lina with an apologetic smile.

However, Lina was not paying any attention to his face because her eyes were fixed on the woman whose back was towards them.

The familiar figure and the same noisy high heels could only belong to someone she knew very well.

"Aunt?" She called out to the woman who immediately turned around.

Lucille Rong gawked at the person who had called out to her and her jaw dropped when she realized who this person was.

"Lina?" She uttered the name in disbelief.

Her eyes then moved to the man sitting beside her and this time she felt her heart stop.

'Why is Lina here with Young Master Ming?' She alternated her sights between the two people she had stumbled upon in this dark corner of the garden.

Her head began to spin when she thought back to when she had just interrupted this big shot's romantic time.

She had beautifully misunderstood what was happening between the youngsters, not that they cared about what she thought of them.

Lina got up from her seat when she was sure that it was Lucille and walked towards her.

'I was introduced to the entire society but her daughter wasn't. I'm sure that she must be planning something right now.' Lina observed her face to get some clues about her present mood.

She was sure that Lucille would not take this humiliation without retaliating in some way or the other.

Seeing Lina walking away from him, Reuben too stood up and followed after her.

He stood right next to her and then glanced down to look at the sudden intruder.

'Kitten called her 'Aunt' which can only mean that this woman is that homewrecker who is interfering between Patrick and Wallace.' He gave her one last glance before focusing his eyes back on Lina.

Reuben already had a bad opinion about the two women in Yang Manor and now because of her earlier Interruption, he disliked her even more.

He knew of the problems between the two men and also that Mandy was not a true Yang.

But he could not understand why they had been tolerating them for so long.

"Greetings, Young Master Ming." Lucille bowed her head a little and wished him before she turned to face Lina.

She knew that she couldn't argue with her, at least not presently when Master Ming was right next to her.

But her eyes gleamed deviously when she thought of a way through which she could make Lina look bad before him.

"Child… Why did you do that to your cousin?" She whispered in a soft voice and instantly, tears had formed in her eyes.

Lina was baffled to see how quickly she had managed to harness those overworked tear ducts of hers.

Seeing that Lina had just tilted her head without answering her, Lucille was given more courage to continue with her one-man act.

"I know that you do not want to look bad before Master Ming but I just cannot stop myself." The tears streaked her face but the makeup did not move.

The only thing Lina was wondering here was what brand of cosmetics she had just which could withstand the torrents of tears that were flooding her face.

Noticing her dumbfounded appearance, Lucille turned to Reuben as she gently wiped her tears away.

"I am sorry you had to see me like this. Please excuse me." She apologized for her minor outburst.

Then she took a second to carefully notice Reuben's face and was greatly pleased with his features.

'Only someone like him can match my daughter and not this foolish Lina!' Her maternal affection for Mandy was evoked and she decided to make sure that Reuben would hate Lina before he left this place.

"Who exactly are you?" Reuben's lazy voice sounded in their ears.

The sympathetic look that she had been expecting from him was nowhere to be found and in its place was just indifference and a total lack of interest.

Nevertheless, she quickly adjusted her emotions and tried to speak in a normal tone.

"How could I expect a great man like Master Ming to know who I am?" She gave him the best smile that she could conjure.

"Precisely." Reuben did not object to her words. In fact, he nodded to show that he agreed with them.

'Ruby is savage!' Lina covered her mouth to stop the chortle that almost leaked out.

"Forget about him. What did you mean by your previous words? What did I do to my cousin?" She asked as she waved her hand near his body as though to shoo him away.

Reuben was amused to witness him being treated like air but he did not interfere anymore.

"If you really treated her as your cousin then you wouldn't have humiliated her in this way." Lucille looked up at Reuben when she said the last word and once again there were tears glistening in her eyes.

"I do not know what Aunt is talking about." She tilted her head and blinked her eyes as though she really wasn't aware of what had happened.

This was because Lina was on bed rest before the event and did not know anything that had happened in Yang Manor during her absence.

"You do not have to pretend like you know nothing of what happened just because Master Reuben is here." Lucille spoke in a choked voice and wiped the tears.

'Is she trying to badmouth me when I am right here?' Lina found the entire situation extremely funny but she did nothing to stop it.

She even looked up to see Reuben's expression to assess what his thoughts were.

'If he believes her then that just means that Ruby is a weak man who falls for a woman's tears.' She scoffed at him and then looked back at Lucille.

Reuben had been silently watching them converse, so he was shocked to see that Lina had just given him a disgusted look before she focused on Lucille.

His annoyance with this lady increased and he fiercely glared at her tear-stained face.

"What exactly do you want? Either blurt it out or we are leaving right this instant!" He declared in a stern voice.

Lucille's plans of jeopardizing Lina's image in his eyes had gone down the drain when she heard his pissed off voice.

She froze in her place and did not know how to proceed any further.

Reuben clicked his tongue when he saw her frightened face.

Holding onto Lina's waist, he promptly brought her away from there.

Lucille stood in the same place and could only hear as their footsteps gradually faded away.

She gnashed her teeth and then looked at her phone before glancing around.

'I can deal with Lina some other time. I need to meet that man before someone else comes here.' She unlocked her phone and sent a text out to a private number.

*At the terrace garden*

After seeing the successful delivery notification, she walked further into the garden.

___

Lina glared at Reuben as they walked towards the banquet hall once again.

"What was that for!? I wanted to know what she meant by that!" She pouted because he had dragged her away before she could gain any valuable information from her.

"She was just making up stories anyway. My innocent kitten would have just fallen for her schemes if I had not dragged you away." He poked her forehead and rolled his eyes.

"So you knew that she was acting?" Lina's eyes widened in surprise.

'So he did not fall for the tears. Good job!' She applauded him in her mind.

"I've seen people with much better acting skills than hers so there's no way I would fall for it." He shrugged in a nonchalant way.

Lina chuckled as they walked into the banquet hall.

The moment they stepped in, Reuben yanked on her waist to get her closer to his body.

Lina was startled by his sudden move and was about to question him when she noticed someone had stopped just a few inches away from her.

"Dr. Zane?" Lina muttered when she saw the gold-rimmed glasses on the petite man.

"Oh hi, Lina! Nice party! Medical emergency… Bye!" he huffed as he waved his phone at her and then ran towards the door.

Lina and Reuben turned to watch the man rushing outside and saw that he had suddenly stopped.

When he had reached the door, he turned around and looked at Lina.

"Remember to take your meds on time or else I can get you admitted once again!" He winked at her and then disappeared.

This time, Lina could clearly feel the disgruntled air being emitted from the man standing beside her.

"Meds? Admitted?" He uttered in a pissed off voice as he looked down at her.
