Lina stood with her arms crossed over her chest, her brows raised as an amused smile sat on her face.
"Come again?" She smiled and politely asked the woman to repeat herself.
Jeanette smirked and took a step closer to her. She raised her head as she was shorter than Lina even after wearing those 4inch stilettos and let out a mocking chuckle.
"Did you already forget about the person whose happiness you snatched away on that night?" She scoffed without hiding the contempt she felt for Lina.
Usually, Jeanette Liang would try to hide her innermost thoughts and emotions when others were present because she had a reputation to uphold.
However, seeing how the opposite person was someone she had come to loathe with all her being, Jeanette did not make any effort in hiding the hatred in her heart.
'She dared to seduce my daddy! I'll see how she will get away with it!' She sneered and shot Lina a disgusted look.
Lina on the other hand was trying hard to make sense of what this woman was implying.
'I only met her once and that was at Cecilia's so why is she trying to make it sound like she knows me?' Lina frowned, not pleased with the way she was being spoken to.
'She reminds me of Mandy with her stuck up behavior. This younger generation lacks even the most basic manners.' She shook her head in defeat and grumbled as though she was an old lady from the previous generation.
Seeing the sad and disappointed eyes being directed at her, Jeanette glowered in response.
"Stop acting like you don't know what I am talking about!" She screamed out loud, now completely abandoning any form of the facade that she had been putting up.
'I'm just glad that this place is pretty abandoned or else she would have just made a fool out of herself by raising her voice in public.'
Once again, the look of disappointment flashed on her face.
'Is she looking down on me because I am not as rich as her and my Liang family status doesn't compare to hers?' Jeanette deduced and glared at the taller woman.
Being treated like a princess by her dad, Burt Liang had certainly twisted her way of thinking and now her bruised ego could not take any more hits.
This was the final string for her and she did not hesitate to lash out at Lina.
"I'm talking about your sister, Mandy whom you sidelined at that event!" She snarled as she declared what she had been going on about.
Lina's jaw almost dropped when she heard Mandy Rong's name being mentioned.
'I thought that this was all about the salon appointment but things seem to be different from my expectations.' She remarked and a serious look appeared on her face.
"What about Mandy and what exactly did I do to her which is making you lash out at me in this ridiculous manner?" Lina posed a question of her own to which Jeanette was more than willing to reply.
But before she could even open her mouth, Lina cut her off.
"Before you answer my earlier question, please make one thing clear to me…" She drawled her words out.
Jeanette gave her a scornful nod as though she had given her permission to speak.
Lina played along with her antics and gave her a grateful smile before she looked down at her and tilted her head to the side.
"Tell me again… Who exactly are you and what right do you have to speak for Mandy?" She interrogated with that sweet smile appearing on her face once again.
Jeanette choked on thin air when she heard those deriding words and her anger rose by another notch.
"Why you...!" She glared vicious daggers at Lina's face and raised her hand to strike this woman with a vicious tongue.
However, luck was on Lina's side as just at that moment, one of the doors of the private rooms was pushed open.
Jeanette, not wanting her pristine image to be tainted at the cost of this worthless and cheap woman named Lina, immediately lowered her hand and changed the expressions on her face.
'Woah! Those are some high-level facial control skills!' Lina was more than impressed when she saw the instant change in her aura.
Once again the same sense of Deja vu struck her.
An elderly couple exited a room close to where they were standing however they took off using the other side of the corridor and did not witness Jeanette's supreme white lotus skills.
Making sure that they were alone with no witnesses, Jeanette's face displayed signs of hostility all over again.
"A woman who tries to steal her cousin's chance at being in the limelight isn't worth my time anyway." She chuckled mockingly.
"You were asking why I am speaking up for Mandy, right?" She continued and received a curious nod from Lina.
"If you would have tried to spend at least a little time with her rather than running after my… after men then you would have known that we are best friends." She gloated and tried to keep the nervous tick of her lips under control.
'I almost messed up Sister Talia's plans by mentioning daddy!' She chided herself for getting too carried away.
Talia had given them a strict set of instructions about what they should and shouldn't do and Jeanette was just on the verge of breaking one of them right now.
'I can't spoil the fun by letting her know what's about to hit her.' She shook her head and decided to watch her words.
Lina was confused when she heard the 'running after men' comment.
'When did I ever do that?' She frowned and tried to recall any such incident ever occurring but failed since she had never done such a bizarre thing.
While she was trying to jog her memory, her opponent was all prepared on what to say next.
How could Jeanette ever give her a chance to explain herself? She smirked and continued with her barrage of accusations.
"Aren't you ashamed of the fact that you planned everything just to take away poor Mandy's chance to bond with her father?" She sneered and clicked her tongue.
Lina's mood soured when she heard her uncle's name being used against her.
"Why don't you go ask him what really happened? If you love Mandy to the extent that you almost assaulted me, then you should be able to face him without any qualms." She suggested and raised her brows when she saw the fear in Jeanette's eyes.
Patrick Yang was a jovial and fun-loving uncle to his niece and nephews but to the outsiders, he could be considered ruthless.
Jeanette had once been warned by someone very close to her to stay far away from this monster in the disguise of a harmless puppy.
Hence, she often tried her best to not come under his radar nor come inside Yang Manor in fear of accidentally running into him.
"Aren't you supposed to be her sister and look out for her? How could you even have the heart to humiliate her at home in the absence of her father?" Jeanette expertly diverted the topic in a new direction.
Lina's brows scrunched further together when she heard this brand new accusation.
"Is it? Please elaborate." She did not explain herself but nonchalantly tossed the question back to her.
Jeanette was stunned on how to answer because she had just blurted out something which had popped up in her mind.
Just like her, Mandy had an image to keep up so she had never mentioned a single word about Lina's existence until the day of the debutante ball.
Even then, she only wept on Jeanette's shoulder about how unfair her father was but never revealed any such incident that could be against Lina.
Thinking of something to use in its place, Jeanette raised her hand and pointed her finger at Lina's face.
"You can try and negate everything else using your tricky words…" She began her attempt at making a comeback.
'I said absolutely nothing to negate her accusations because she had no solid case against me in the first place.' Lina rolled her eyes and let her finish what she had to say.
"But you cannot deny the fact that you stole her father's love which was meant solely for her!" She completed her sentence and finally lowered her hand.
Lina's patience had finally run its course and she was done listening to her baseless accusations and delusional words.
"First, you cannot steal someone's share of love. It is either there or it isn't. It's as simple as that." She preached her words of wisdom with absolute confidence in them.
"Last, I have no obligation to stand here and give you any explanation. So, goodbye!" She concluded as she shook her head in exasperation.
She then flipped her hair that had cascaded onto her shoulder to the back, giving the little spoiled brat a glimpse of the Diva dormant inside 'The Lina Yang' and then turned around to walk away.
Jeanette's eyes darkened when she saw this series of disrespectful actions and huffed arrogantly.
Taking a step forward, she held onto Lina's hand and yanked her backward.
"Ouch!" Lina cried out in pain because the hand which had been held was the hand she had injured today.
Jeanette noticed the bandaged hand and a vicious light gleamed in her eyes.
Instead of relaxing the grip on Lina's hand, she tightened her hold and went as far as twisting her hand a little.
The pain Lina felt caused her eyes to well up but she did not let them fall, she turned around and glared at this woman who did not hesitate to take advantage of the injury on her hand.
'If she can be shameless enough to attack my weakness then…' Lina scoffed before harshly yanking her hand away.
The force she used not only caused an intense jolt to run through her own hand but also caused her assailant to be pushed away by a few steps.
Jeanette stared into Lina's eyes as her expressions changed from gloating to fear and distress as her body fell backward.
The next moment, before Lina could react she watched in slo-mo how the woman opposite her fell to the floor.
"What is going on over here?" A booming voice made them both turn in its direction.
