Upon hearing the inquiry made about the injury on the young lady's feet, everyone focused their eyes on the cast that had been placed on Jeanette Liang's leg.
This was when Moira noticed the injured foot of the young lady who was known as an 'Angel' among the hordes of socialites in the city.
Moira was also one of the women who was fooled by Jeanette's excellent acting prowess as she too believed that this daughter of Burt Liang was a saint among men.
Naive as she might be, even she knew that something was not right when she saw the look that the two young ladies had just exchanged.
Wanting to take a closer look at what would soon ensue, she rose from her seat and stepped towards the direction of the table where this conversation was taking place.
"What is it, Jeanette honey?" Another elderly lady in her sixties inquired when she saw the look on her face.
Everyone in society knew about the tragic death of Mrs. Liang which led Jeanette to grow up without the guidance of her mother.
Despite this obvious disadvantage, they had never seen her misbehaving or acting out like most single-parent children would do.
Instead, she was the embodiment of innocence and grace in their eyes and hence most of these women pampered her when they met each other at such parties.
Another reason for this special treatment was because of the good impression they had about Burt Liang who had done his best to care for his daughter without remarrying as most rich men did.
Not only had he not married after his wife's sudden death, but he had also been an example of the perfect widower with no affairs attached to his name to taint the stellar image he maintained until this day.
All of these factors contributed to making Jeanette the perfect young socialite in their eyes.
Now, as they looked at her sad and gloomy appearance with an injured foot, they were anxious to know what had happened for her to be this disheartened.
Jeanette was well aware of the stellar impression that she had in their eyes.
This was also why Talia had decided to make use of her in this scheme to ruin Lina once and for all.
'Now's my turn to get rid of that woman so that she never dares to contact my father ever again!' Jeanette gnashed her teeth in anger.
This action of hers made it look as though she was suppressing her emotions, making the considerate women to feel for her deeply.
"It's alright, Jeanie. I know you aren't speaking up because you wish to protect me." Mandy Rong rubbed her back to comfort her.
These words made the women ponder on what the meaning hidden behind them might be.
Though they did not have to wait for long since Mandy was more than willing to give them the answers to all of their questions.
"Speak, child." The oldest woman there ordered Mandy to begin.
As they knew that Mandy was the bastard child of the Yang family, they did not want to have much connection with her but the situation needed for them to interact with each other.
Earlier when Jeanette had introduced Mandy as her close friend, they had shown their dissatisfaction yet now they were asking her to speak up.
"This is all because of me… I was the reason why Jeanie was hurt." She confessed which made the women glare at her.
However, before the women could persecute Mandy at the stake, Jeanette held her hand as she furiously shook her head.
"I would have done that for any of my friends, you are my closest friend so how could I stay silent when you were facing such injustice?" Jeanette's choking voice brought them to the edge of their seats.
Any woman would love some good hot gossip and these pedigreed women were not above this human tendency as they eagerly waited for more tea to be spilled.
They did not interrupt as the two friends were having a heart to heart moment which would bring them some insider information of the event that had led Jeanette to be injured.
Talia and Valerie shared a glance of victory when they saw that every single one of these women was interested to know what had taken place.
Observing the keen eyes on her, Mandy did what she did best and within a second she succeeded to make big fat tears well up in her eyes.
"If it wasn't for me then you wouldn't have argued with my cousin and she wouldn't have pushed you in a fit of anger." She muttered in a soft voice while constant sniffles were heard.
When this statement was heard, the women were quick to affiliate the word cousin to the only other child of the Yang family.
"By cousin… Do you mean Miss Lina?" One of the granddaughters who was invited to the party inquired without any tact.
The ashamed grandmother pinched her thigh to make her stop embarrassing herself but it was already too late since everyone was staring at them.
Jeanette smiled but said nothing while Mandy gave a furious nod of her head.
"It was my cousin who pushed Jeanette when she had gone to confront her about…." She stopped herself when she felt Jeanette's hand gripping over her arm.
This action was clearly seen by everyone present and their opinion about Jeanette being a virtuous child strengthened once again.
"Tell us, child! Why would that Yang girl hurt Jeanette?" Another lady rudely interrogated as she glared at Mandy.
Despite the strong refusal apparent on her friend's face, Mandy stepped forward and retold the story of how this sister of hers liked to argue with her at every turn.
With each word that Mandy uttered against Lina, the frowns on their faces deepened and the disgust in their eyes was evident for everyone to discern.
Talia clenched her fists as she continued watching the show at a safe distance to make sure that none of this could be pinned on her head in case things go awry later on.
'Lina Yang, now let us see how you can stand tall next to my Brother Ming after every woman in the city shuns you!' She smirked and hid that evil glint in her eyes before anyone could catch it.
The events that she had planned today were only the beginning of her grand scheme to make Lina's life a living hell in this city.
For all she wanted was that this thorn in her path named Lina Yang who stood between her and Reuben Ming's future relationship might be trampled on by everyone who comes her way.
