Chapter 289 - We've Had A Long Day

The hatred and hostility in her heart for Jeanette and the failure of her scheme was now being channeled to the source of all her miseries.

'If only that Lina Yang had not popped up out of nowhere then I would have succeeded in making Brother Reuben mine for all eternity!' She sneered as she continued to grit her teeth.

The confidence she had in herself was unprecedented as there was no way to prove that Reuben would fall for her without Lina in his life but that was not going to stop her from hoping.

So what if today's plan had failed to ruin Lina thanks to the timely intervention of Mrs. Huo and Wayne?

She still had many ways to ensure that Lina did not have a pleasant stay in this city.

Today they had failed to convince the women about Lina's wicked behavior but this did not mean that they did not accomplish anything at all.

Prior to today's tea party, Jeanette and Mandy had been to multiple parties, gatherings, and even to clubs to meet their friends.

Everyone they met heard the same story of how Lina had harmed Jeanette while the angelic socialite had stood up in the culprit's defense.

They had already managed to twist Lina's image in their eyes to that of a vile and black-hearted vicious woman who would do anything to keep what was hers to herself.

In this situation, it was the title of the heiress which she felt that Mandy could snatch away from her.

This anxiety and fear had caused Lina to lash out at the timid newcomer in the family who bore all the pain in silence for her mother's sake.

This pitiable tale of the woman with power abusing it was what most of their acquaintances had heard.

The story was altered enough to let people know that the Yang family was a place where Lina had the upper ground and that she used this authority to bully Mandy.

'Once I get the confirmation from that woman we have in Obsidia, we can move onto the final stage of my plan.' Talia smirked when she recalled that the main course had yet to come.

Everything that they had done until now was making sure that the women in society would realize the true personality of Lina Yang which was concealed behind the pretty face.

Now, they just had to push a button and watch how the entire city would despise Lina and her very existence in this city would become a tough task for her.

'She had the audacity to try and snatch my love away from me. She needs to be prepared to face my wrath for that!' She looked away at the horizon as an evil glint flashed through her eyes.

While she was lost in her thoughts, she felt her phone vibrating in her purse which woke her up from her daze.

The remaining three people around her stared at her as she grabbed the phone and answered it.

"Hmm? Yes, Mother." She replied to something she heard over the call.

The others now knew that she was speaking to the matriarch of the Zheng family, Eve Zheng who had left them here to enjoy her spa day with her friends.

Talia's face which had frown lines and a scowl after the events of today had now turned into a shy blush as she nodded her head to whatever was said over the phone.

'I had forgotten about it if it wasn't for Mother's reminder!' She chided her mindful behavior and soon replied to the woman on the other side of the call.

"That is an excellent idea! I will be there right away!" She declared before hanging up on the call.

She then glanced at Valerie who was ready to follow her at any time.

The two sisters strode one after the other in the direction of the resort but soon stopped.

"Your work here is done. I will do everything from here onwards so make sure you keep your mouth shut and don't mess things up for me." Talia ordered the women who stood in the same place as before.

Jeanette huffed in anger once these two women left the garden after they had haughtily dictated what they should and shouldn't do.

Mandy stayed silent as she watched her best friend glowering at these socialites who had left in an arrogant manner.

"Can we leave now?" She inquired as she had enough of this emotional rollercoaster that she had been on from the moment she had arrived at this party.

Jeanette's anger which was about to burst calmed down when she heard Mandy's request.

'Brother Wayne did not hate Mandy like I had expected him to… Maybe I can use her to get close to him.' She speculated after what she had witnessed today.

This was because when Jeanette had consoled Mandy during the debutante ball, she had poured out all of her grievances with everyone related to the Yang family.

This included Wayne Luo as well which had made Jeanette apprehensive about asking her help to become closer to her crush.

But today she had noticed that Wayne had just looked at Mandy and not yelled at her which was different from what she was told about in the past.

'I shouldn't let this opportunity go.' She decided and then nodded at her friend.

"We've had a long day…" She uttered while rubbing the slightly swollen cheek which had been stuck by Talia.

Feeling the pain in her cheek, she was sure to avenge this slap in the future as now was not the time to do so.

'I will wait for Talia to destroy Lina… Only then will I act against this stuck up bitch who dared to slap me.' She smirked which disappeared before Mandy could notice it.

The concept of using someone else to do the work for you was what Jeanette utilized most of the time.

Since Talia hated Lina enough to ruin her then she might as well just wait and watch as the show took place.

'I have done my little part in this scheme which means that I will no longer have anything to do with what happens next.' She surmised and then picked up her purse.

Glancing at Mandy, she began walking towards the entrance where they had come in from and would soon leave from the same.

'I have given her enough proof to destroy Lina so what she does with it is her lookout as long as I get to see the results.' She grinned while thinking of the photos that she had handed over to Talia.

No matter how infuriated she was about Lina trying to seduce her father, she was not foolish enough to get involved directly.

This was why she had approached Talia, who was dumb enough to agree to her proposal and would now be doing everything for her.

Now even if Talia were to get caught, the blame would not end up on her head as everyone would think that she was acting on the social queen's orders.

'I remain safe and I get to see Lina's defeated appearance. I think that is a win-win situation for me!' She smirked as the two young ladies left the garden, leaving it completely deserted now.
