"What was he trying to imply!?" An angry woman huffed as she rode in the elevator to a lower floor.
The assistant standing next to her scoffed but did not answer her rhetorical question.
Lina glared at the man who had not offered any words of consolation and pursed her lips as she looked away from him.
'It is not my fault that my weight fluctuates!' She defended herself and touched her belly which was still taut and flat.
In the previous times that she had entered closed-door cultivation, she had some major changes when she emerged victorious after a few weeks.
The first time was for 12 days and she had dropped more than 4 kilos in that period of time.
The second time that she had utilized this method, she had done the opposite and gained about 6 kilos in the 3 weeks that she had spent locked indoors.
This was one of the reasons why the people who knew about her horrid habits were hesitant to allow her to do the same this time around.
Sadly, Lina was not one to listen to their words which were concerned about her health and well-being.
She had decided to emerge victorious this time as well no matter what the cost for doing so would be.
Benji watched as she clenched her fists and pumped them in the air like some old lady who was cursing the heavens which had wronged her in the days of her youth.
The doors of the elevator opened before them which brought them both back from the thoughts that are floating in their minds.
Lina stepped out first after which Benji was quick to follow.
The people in the Marketing Department were stupefied to see their consultant dressed in clothes which did not fit the office atmosphere.
Assistant Leon Jiu raised his head when he noticed the silence that took over the room and this was when he noticed the boss and assistant pair walking in his direction.
Leon took in their appearance and was amazed by how good Lina looked in the new type of clothing that he had never seen her wear before.
'What are they up to?' Detective Leon Jiu sat up straight and watched how the pair soon took a detour instead of entering Lina's office as usual.
Getting up from his seat, he followed them using his super stealth mode to take a peek at what they were planning to do.
Lina and Benji shared a look and rolled their eyes at the man who had thought that he had fooled them.
They entered Director Stuart Bai's office and promptly shut the door in the detective's face to hinder his plans of eavesdropping on their conversation.
"How do I look?" Lina inquired the moment the door was shut.
The man who sat behind the desk with a thick frame of glasses resting on his nose looked up from the file that he had been studying only to notice that Lina and her assistant had entered his room without permission.
"Just because you are the daughter of that Demon does not give you the right to do as you please." He scoffed at the young lady who was impetuous at best.
The young lady ignored the jab that was made at her father, Simon Yang as she was worried about the Director's mental health.
'He doesn't look as devastated as I had thought he would.' Lina gauged his reaction and found that things weren't as she had expected them to be.
Maxene Kang was the person whom Director Bai had plans to take under his wing before Lina came by.
She had heard gossip from Leon about how the old man had tried to make her stay back after her contract would soon come to an end.
However, that wouldn't be needed now as the woman was out of the office and never had a chance to step inside the building ever again.
The concerned look on her face made Stuart Bai shudder with disgust as he was only used to seeing her mocking or teasing face.
"Stop looking at me like that!" He chastised her and then pointed at the chairs, gesturing them to take a seat.
They did not wait to be told a second time as they were quick to take their seats.
"How are you doing?" Lina inquired as she put on the same concerned face which was what she was feeling for him.
Anybody would be sad and down after realizing that the person they were waiting to hone and give over their post to, turned out to be an ungrateful person like Maxene was.
Stuart was quick to grasp what her question intended to ask and nodded his head.
"It wasn't fated… There's nothing to be done if it wasn't meant to be." He sighed while waving his hand to dismiss her concern for this matter.
Lina and Benji were surprised to see him coping so well with the situation and decided that it was best to not scrape old wounds.
Coming to this conclusion, she shot a glance at her assistant who understood what she meant.
Stuart Bai furrowed his brows when he saw the envelope that the assistant had handed over to him.
"Another resignation? Youngsters these days have no work ethics!" He sneered as he accepted the envelope which clearly had a letter inside.
Lina's lip twitched in anger when she heard his mournful words that were aimed at her.
'Why the hell will I resign from the company that I own!?' She glowered at the man who was swift to come to this weird conclusion.
"A letter for leave! Signed by the VP!" She spoke through gritted teeth as she explained what the letter held.
Stuart Bai frowned as he too had the same thought as Wade had upon first hearing her request for leave, that she was bringing trouble upon herself by asking for a leave.
Lina had Benji type up a quick letter and had gotten Wade's signature on it to ensure that there would be no trouble with the employees who might point a finger at her later on.
The confidence of her face as she pointed at the letter made the man curious as to what reason might be mentioned for her leave.
Following her line of sight, he read in silence the letter that had the VP's signature at the end of it.
"Leave to visit the branch in the other city?" He questioned incredulously after reading the entire letter.
It was true that the VP was in talks with a new company collaborating for the inauguration of the second branch of Obsidia in the country.
However, none of the talks had been finalized, and sending Lina over to see something that wasn't there seemed like a stretched out lie.
"Can't you just fake a sickness like the rest of the employees?" He snorted, not believing the words which were written in the letter.
'Couldn't fool him!' Lina let out a chuckle after hearing his words and nodded her head in agreement.
"I should have done that but I might get in trouble thanks to yesterday's episode." She smirked as she responded to his query.
"After all, I need the leave to cope up with the mental stress that yesterday's endeavor had caused me." She commented with such confidence that even Benji had trusted her words for a quick second before looking away to hide his sneer.
Therefore, it was no doubt that Director Bai, who had no clue about the real reason found that her request for leave to recuperate was a valid one.
