"Mr. Joey?"
"Well," Joey said firmly, "order one for me tomorrow afternoon."
Thinking of that Maggie had called him a few days ago and asked him to go with Lois, Joey hesitated.
Memories flooded in. The accusation that Lois got mad at him as he didn't even tell her the whereabouts of Maggie last time was still vivid in his mind. Joey unconsciously lowered his voice and said, "book two air tickets to Hawaii."
"Yes, sir." Steve was always considerate, but he had never been praised.
If Lois could go with him, Maggie would get better soon.
Then Joey picked up her phone and called his mother. Vera said in a tired voice, "Joey..."
"Mom, what happened? Why does Maggie suddenly feel uncomfortable?"
Looking at her sleeping granddaughter, Vera felt a little distressed. She vented all her anger on her son. "Who said that he would take Lois to see Maggie?"
Joey gasped, "I did say so. What's wrong?"
Vera was pissed off by Joey's confidence. "Maggie keeps looking for mom these days. If you can't make
ave time now. You may wait. If not, please just leave!"
Hearing this, Sally's face turned pale. She turned to the front desk but said, "Steve asked me to go upstairs."
Sally stepped into the elevator and saw that secretary waiting there. She smiled gently and asked, "is Joey in a meeting?"
"Yes," the secretary made a gesture of welcome. "Please follow me."
Sally went into Joey's office again. Looking at the same decoration as last time, she couldn't help but feel a sense of distance.
"What would you like to drink?"
Sally shook her head and asked, "how long will Joey keep busy?"
The secretary was stunned. "It may be a long time."
Seeing that Sally was in a daze, the Secretary pointed at the phone on the table and said, "if you want anything, just call me. I have work to do, so I'll go out first."
Sally didn't let out a sigh of relief until the secretary left. That was exactly what she wanted. She believed that Joey would come soon as he saw her pitiful look. He never ignored her sadness.
