Inside the tent at the campsite, Anthony was leaning on his side on the bed like an emperor. On both sides of him stood five haggard and disheveled women who were massaging Anthony’s shoulders and legs.
Anthony frowned and impatiently reprimanded them, “Can you girls put some strength into it? A bunch of good-for-nothings!”
The woman, who was massaging Anthony’s shoulders, was suddenly dizzy. She begged weakly, “Please give me something to eat. I haven’t eaten in two days.”
Anthony opened his eyes slightly and looked at the woman beside him. He sneered, “B*tch, didn’t we agree to give you half a piece of bread every three days if you serve me well? It’s only been two days, why are you hungry? Either get up right now or get lost!”
The woman pursed her lips and stood up aggrievedly. She returned to the spot behind Anthony and massaged his shoulders with all her might.
It was mandatory for everyone to attend the coming-of-age ceremony. For those with weak physiques, itt was undoubtedly a disaster. For those women who were already weak, it was a disaster that spelt death.
Witnessing their companions die one after another in front of their eyes, some women couldn’t help but feel fear. In the end, they chose their lives and used their bodies to exchange for a chance at survival.
Although Anthony frequently humiliated and scolded them every day, they did not have to go out and get themselves killed. As long as they survived the month, they would be able to stay alive!
“Anthony!”
The door to the tent burst open. Vivian, who had been missing for days, stomped in, looking enraged.
Anthony abruptly sprang up. Seeing that Vivian had returned unscathed, he said in surprise, “You came back at the right time. What resources did you find this time? Tell me quickly!”
Vivian ignored Anthony’s question and looked at the women around her. She could more or less guess what had happened in the past few days. She yelled furiously, “You b*stard! So many people outside are dead but you don’t even care about them. Instead, you stay in here all day to perform illicit acts. How can you face those who trust you?”
Anthony shook his head impatiently and sneered, “So what if a few lowly commoners died? I’m the one who built this campsite. They should be grateful to me for giving them a place to live! Moreover, those good-for-nothings can’t even find the mission materials that I need. Why should I care about their lives?”
Vivian was utterly disappointed with Anthony. After adjusting the Bow of Death on her shoulder, she spun around to leave.
“Stop right there!” Anthony suddenly called out to stop Vivian. He then said in a deep voice, “Looking at you, you must have gained an abundance of things the past few days. Show me all the resources you’ve gathered!”
“Shameless!” Vivian bellowed angrily through clenched teeth before striding out of the tent.
Narrowing his eyes, Anthony picked up the sword by his bed, got up and chased after her.
As soon as he walked out of the tent, Anthony was shocked. The half-dead men in the camp had regained their spirits and were chatting happily with a group of people outside the campsite.
“Thank you, Mr Adams. Thank you so much. The food and herbs you gave us are the greatest gifts in the world!”
“You’re truly worthy of our admiration! Your kindness will be engraved in our memories for eternity!”
Hearing his subordinates’ praises, Anthony could not help but look at Adams. Adams was tall and well-built and had a striking dark-blue longsword at his waist. He looked very brave and made Anthony feel an inexplicable sense of threat.
What made Anthony even go mad was the faint fragrance that seemed to be lingering in the air at the campsite. It was a pleasant smell that he had never smelled before. He could not help but have the urge to search for the source.
Soon, Anthony’s gaze landed on a few strange things on the ground. According to the records in his family’s book collection, it should be the pit of some fruit.
Fruit! That’s extremely rare food. How did they get it?
Anthony’s mind was full of questions until he saw Vivian walking all the way out of camp to stand beside Adams.
It must be them. They have fruits on them!
Unable to suppress his desire for fruits, Anthony strode forward and shoved his men away. He commanded Adams, “Hand over all your gains!”
There was no way Adams would forget Anthony, who had made him a cannon fodder. There was also no way he would have a good attitude towards Anthony. He refuted disdainfully, “Why should I?”
Anthony smiled smugly and said, “This is the campsite that I personally fought to build. If you want to take refuge here, you have to hand over all your gains and let me be the one to distribute them!”
Adams said disdainfully, “Don’t flatter yourself. We are about to go down the mountain to explore the periphery so there’s no need for us to enter your campsite!”
Staring at Adams, Anthony said, “Go down the mountain to explore? Are there not enough resources on this mountain for you to complete your missions? Looks like you were also assigned the most difficult mission list!”
Adams and Vivian both froze when they heard the word “also” coming from Anthony’s mouth. That meant that the other most-difficult mission list had been assigned to Anthony.
“That’s right! Not only did I get it, I will also complete it!” Adams said confidently.
Anthony suddenly burst into laughter. He turned to Vivian and asked, “What about you? Are you going down the mountain with him?”
Vivian ignored Anthony and turned to look at the others in the camp. She said, “I believe in Adams’ abilities, and more than that, I trust Adams’ character. If you don’t want to stay here and wait for death, you can join us!”
Everyone who had just eaten fruits could not help but feel tempted when they heard this. Hesitantly, they walked out of the camp.
Anthony suddenly said loudly, “They are just courting death by going down the mountain. Do you guys have a death wish too? This is the Zerg realm. There are even more powerful Zergs at the foot of the mountain. If you want to die, go ahead then!”
The people in the camp immediately halted in their tracks when they heard Anthony’s words, because all they wanted to do was to live. They had just eaten some food, so they could hold on for many more days. If they went down the mountain with Adams, they might not be able to come back.
Seeing that the others had already made up their minds, Adams turned to Vivian and said, “Everyone has their own ambition. Let’s go!”
Vivian nodded, then joined Adams as he led Garen and the others down the mountain.
On the way, Adams asked Vivian in bewilderment, “Since Anthony got the most difficult mission list, why isn’t he anxious at all?”
Vivian shook her head and said, “I’m not sure either, but his status in the Wester Family is extraordinary, so perhaps the family has a way to help him complete his missions.”
“It’s nice being an aristocrat!” Adams said sincerely.
At the top of the mountain, Anthony was sitting alone at the table with seven or eight washed fruit pits in front of him. His brows furrowed as he said, “Adams, trying to show off? I’d like to see if you can complete the missions on the list. Don’t disappoint me!”
With that, Anthony picked up a fruit pit and chewed it repeatedly. He even made sucking sounds as he did that.
“It’s so delicious! This sweet and sour taste really makes one happy!”
