He started calling people and arranging things. Even if it doesn't happen, being prepared won't hurt.
On the other hand, Jenny was worried. Her parents didn't even try to believe her. "Mother, I really have that strange feeling. Please listen to me. No matter what happened in the past, you two are still my own flesh and blood. Please."
From the other side, she could hear hump. "I told you. From the day you took that apartment for yourself, you lost us. Miss Lin, from today on do not call us ever again. We are not having such an ungrateful child." Then not even saying anything she just hung up and the clear sound could be heard from the other side.
Jenny's eyes turned red and she started crying. The lived on another side of the continent. Grandma left a huge amount of money, a big villa, many riches. And she got this apartment. It was built on the top of the old building. The good thing was that the whole top floor was bought off by her grandma.
So the space she had was enough actually to build one more house. But she had actually house with three bedrooms, living room, storage, kitchen and two bathrooms. The whole floor was protected in a cage-like fence. Not even a bird can pass this boundary. The house had the best quality bricks and windows were made from thick safety glass.
She even had a small greenhouse behind the house that grandma used before to plant some flowers and vegetables to sustain herself. She hated buying things. So Jenny learned a couple of things.
''Grandma, thank you for teaching me so many good things. Now I really will need it.'' She was truly grateful.
She had no smart brains. Her grades were at best average. She finished just highschool and some evening schooling. It was hard for her to concentrate so she on end just choose to work. Her parents felt she was a shame so they never spoke about her.
Once she visited them a and they introduced her as an impoverished cousin that wanted to leech on the. She was so hurt that she packed her things the same day and came back. That was three years ago. Since then they didn't even try to talk to her. Even when she calls they try to keep their talk shorter than a minute or two.
So her life was not peachy. But now it started getting stable, but of course, something has to happen. Oh, Heavens... Seriously???
Solar panels, check. Freezers, check. Food, check. Medicine, check. Weapons, check. Safety door, check (grandma installed). Plants, check. Everything has been delivered already.
She called the butcher she knew well and told him to bring her fresh meat, animal fat for frying and some dry meats as well. When he brought the meats three of four freezers have been filled. Last one she chooses to fill with vegetables.
She called one of their famous delivery companies and asked them to sell to her privately few boxes on frozen vegetables. but as they knew her long, they brought many freebees. Extra packages of vegetables and fruits and some canned stuff she could use quite well. Of course, she would accept everything.
After she wasted all her savings and the loan from the bank just that two grand from her company were left. What else does she need? She realized her windows on greenhouse were see-through so went to store and bought a bunch of rolls of semitransparent foil.
Next couple of days all she did was to shop for some stuff that hse might need to use as a woman and more clothes. This time she went to one dollar store in the neighborhood and bought bunch leather clothes that are quite resistant, army uniforms that are durable, working clothe and some snow protection gears. From top to bottom she filled with all kinds of clothes that had all the same color for purpose. Protection.
If it's not brown, then gray for city area, green for forest area and white for winter. She had it all white, from the hat, mask, snow gear and shoes, all white... The others were sets as well. U.n.d.e.r.w.e.a.r, socks and bras she bought on the package from Chinese lady in the next building. It was ''excess'' from her work.
She bought as well as camping gear and rented the most expensive car in the city area. She left enough money to just leave it in her garage. It was the newest kind of armored car that just looked normal. She just left it there in the garage just in case she needed to flee. That new kind had so many functions that she got dizzy by just reading through the manual.
Now that everything was settled, she should be able to sleep. Right? But it was not so. Those dreams got by night more and more violent. She checked the internet, bought the radio, watched TV but there were no signs of any meteorite shower. So she felt like one of those crazy people.
But as there were still not many signs, she could still live others. Maybe going to the theatre or eating somewhere expensive? She felt too giddy to stay home. But then one call saved her from getting nervous wrack.
