''Jenny, you are back!'' A familiar voice sounded in her ears as suddenly the wind came up to her as soon the door was open. She could hear the wind and thunder but knew that the storm was stopped by the shield she heald. Now she knew why she was so exhausted.
She slowly opened her eyes to see Mina standing next to the truck and smiling brightly at her. ''Hi, Mina. Sorry, I am really tired. Is there a chance that any of you might have some of those stones? I need them to hold the protection shield for tonight.''
Her voice was low and raspy so no one could understand their conversation except Mina and Mike.
Mina nodded and gave her a whole bag full of it. ''These are for you. That shield indeed protects against bad weather, but zombies still can enter it. The good news is because we don't have that storm here, we could kill many of these. Grandpa said there are at least twenty only from him.''
Jenny chuckled and slowly descended the truck. She could see hundreds of children and people running out to hep out transport the food into the storages.
Actually, they planned to eat a lot of food that has a short lasting date, so many frozen things will be eaten first. Luckily only in this part of town, there are a bunch of restaurants and stores so all the freezers inside were implemented. Luckily they still had electric energy, but they already started planning using other possible forces like wind and sun as well.
They started turning off all the building's unnecessary energy consumption so there was enough electricity for their use.
"Mike, what are your plans? Do you have any?" She looked around at the busy people and stuffed one of the stones into her mouth.
Somehow she felt like dried fish. But the moment she ate the stones her energy started rising again. She stared at the stones with a strange expression.
Mina saw that and got worried. "Don't tell me that you finally could taste how disgusting it is."
Jenny had to laugh at her comment. "It's not that. I can feel something different. When I eat these now its fine. Before I had to eat a handful of these to refill my energy but now it's enough one stone refiling I could make the shield even stronger. Mina, I think I know how this power inside me works. This is great. Now the shield will last for one straight week without me being in near. I can go with teams and search surrounding and check are there more survivors and things we could use. But Mina I think something else is going on with the weather outside.''
They turned their heads towards the sky and saw a strange thing happening. Black lightings hitting surroundings and the shield. The shield could actually dampen the noise outside, but the black lightings were noiseless.
''The bolts of lightning are hitting my shield and actually making it stronger. This is the weirdest thing. It's like something is trying to harden the shield I made from outside. I can feel the power ins hield increasing immensely. I wonder what will happen after this.'' The black lightings didn't seem dangerous actually it felt soothing.
Trough the bolts of lightning she even gathered more power in her body and all fatigue was gone like taken away. She almost could bet that she had more energy than all of them together, but then worry flashed through her eyes.
''What is wrong?'' Mike could clearly see grimace. Mina turned her gaze towards Jenny and saw her turning her head towards the end of the street.
''I hope it will harden enough the shield so we do not have to worry anymore about zombies. I fear that after this weird storm they won't be so simple anymore.'' She could clearly feel an increase of power outside the shield, but the reasons for that were still unknown.
''This shield will protect the city but I actually wanted to tell you that I can create a shield around everyone who joins us tomorrow. I just need enough of these stones. And the storm will be over soon so I do not think that zombies will come near me... you know... my smell.'' She chuckled when she saw their realization.
''Good. then I can come with you tomorrow. I will be fine as long as I am close to you, right?'' Mina just felt stuffed in the apartment.
Mike thought about it. ''Tomorrow we will take even more people to help us search the mall and surroundings, of course with your help Jenny.''
She nodded and just started walking. Mike rushed behind her to follow together with Mina and they stared at her curiously. ''Where are you going?''
They saw her shrug and almost fainted at her words. ''For a walk, I feel I need to walk a bit. Wanna join me? Arent, you feeling tired?'' With the rosen eyebrows, she saw his tired face.
''I am dying for bed, but I have no wish for you to...'' He didn't even finish when she started laughing.
''Mike. Zombies won't eat me, I have a natural shield and You can just appoint a guard for me. Or just let Mina wear some weapon if you are really worried.'' His tiered expression and muddled eyes showed he couldn't think straight.
A sigh came from his flattened lips as he tried to stay awake. He just gave up and waved his hand. ''Do whatever you want. Without you anyway, this city is doomed. All my people know that I am quite sure, so they will keep an eye on you. Be early in the morning here. Good night.''
He just turned around and left while wobbling a bit. Jenny looked at his tiered body and shook her head. ''He just does things too much. Tomorrow I need to talk to him. he needs to give orders to make working groups and give some people more work. Does he think he is superhuman? Idiot.''
Jenny enjoyed the short walk around their block. Even tho she was curious about things further away, she just chose to wait until tomorrow. Why rushing, she was about to say something ut saw Mina's tiered face and just gave up.
''Let's go home. You are tired as well. Tomorrow is a new day, don't worry.'' Jenny took Mina's hand and they rushed back home.
