Soon Meira singing could be heard from one side of the RV. She is really taking a shower?
Jenny ignored their faces and turned her head towards a big bus that someone found. Few people found trucks that had enough gasoline and she nodded.
Two hours later around two thousand people got out and slowly moved. Few buses, bunch of trucks, and hundreds of cars moved swiftly behind RV.
Strangely, the RV literally cleaned the cars to the side and so they could drive. From the other side, Jenny just gave notice to Steven's parents and they joined on the end of the trail.
They wondered about the number of people that wanted to leave. But then saw the car line stopping and Jenny going from one building to other and spraying it with X sign.
People started going into buildings and shot could be heard. She gave them a task to clean all the buildings alone in the surroundings. Those few zombies that were left, she let them handle.
Going from one house to another, they realized that the safety shield took quite a lot of buildings. Few young men rushed to help her and she smiled and pointed at buildings. "That one, the whole street there, the grey building on the side..."
Around thirty buildings were inside the shield and people happily smiled at her. In mid if buildings was a lake surrounded by a park.
She pointed at the park and lake. "I wouldn't recommend washing clothes inside. Keep the lake clean so you can use it for fishes that survived inside. Do not overfish or you won't have anything to eat. Don't cut trees to get more gardening space. You can use balconies and tops of buildings as planting places. I can sell you seeds. But they not cheap."
They changed expressions but she continued to explain. "The seeds are special as they have a 100% rate of regrowth. One package has five seeds and costs ten stones. I'll open screen and you can make your own choices."
This was the biggest plus of her trading system. She could earn stones.
A woman came forward and shyly looked at her. "Are there other things you sell?"
Jenny nodded. "I have it all. Tell me first do you want seeds?"
She took a big bag out her backpack and started ordering different kinds of plants, stunning everyone. Feeling their gaze on her back she smirked at them. "I'm not sharing. You buy your own."
They could see resoluteness in her voice and knew she really wouldn't share. But who would? Only five seeds per package.
After finishing up with seeds she got near the screen and realized it was like an online store. "This is amazing."
Under she could see the number of stones she had and how much she spent already. Luckily she gathered enough. And there was another lucky thing. They lived in a time where such applications were usual everywhere.
With a swift motion, she swiped over the screen and got other items. Food, clothes, shoes, private stuff...
Jenny let her do her thing as she wanted the rest of them to make their choices and learn how to use it. She went into a nearby car and looked at the people.
"Everyone knows now how to use it?" Looking at their faces she sighed in relief. "Those that will come with me please go to your cars. I'll give you this option at the next stop. Those that will stay please stand so that there is one step of space in front and back of you so everyone would be able to shop comfortably."
At first, they protested a little but still moved to their cars, while others had no idea what to do.
Luckily the few men understood her idea and went yo make some space between people.
The families were together so space was important. Seeing their swift motion she nodded. "Good. Now you can all shop. The stones they find on you will be on screen. If you have no stones, you won't be able to shop. I do not give loans or giveaways and no I do not gift things without reason. Exchange is something different."
She went to her RV and sat down on the chair that Jacob gave her. Soon a group of young men stood there with red faces. "We can make things. Repair stuff. Is there anything..."
Jenny pointed at their chief in command. "Tell him about your abilities. He can hire you."
Their shoulders slumped. "But until we get paid you will be long gone."
Jenny sighed and pointed at a few dozen cars. "Check their cars for stones. Don't repair under ten stones. If they complain tell them my words. I do not repair stuff and I do not wait for anyone. If they chose a broken car and do not repair it now, they can just stay where they are." Then she lowered voice. "I'll be here for another few hours. Sell them gasoline as well."
They smiled brightly and first went to extract gasoline from cars and then two were selling gasoline, while the other three offered to check and repair their vehicles.
As expected few started arguing about prices but shut up soon as the young ken pointed at Jenny and transferred the words from her.
Stevens family came slowly towards Jenny and looked at the RV with a stiff expression. "Can we buy this?"
Jenny shook her head and pointed at one of the side streets. "There is one similar in that street. Ask the boys to help you get out of it and to fill your tank "
They went inside and saw one that was bigger and better than hers and quickly called the young men to help them. Of course, they had to pay them a hundred stones for that and grudgingly realized that they had to pay another hundred to fill the tank.
But entering the RV they felt quite comfortable. They paid to fill their water tank and help them get rid of the wastewater and as other people saw the RV, they almost died of anger. Everyone started looking for a better option. But on end, many chose comfortable trucks, Jeeps or busses.
Jenny shook her head and pointed out the important fact. "Gather enough gasoline, please. Those things drink gasoline like crazy. Do I even have to tell you that? And no... electric cars are not good. Where do you see the station to fill up?"
But the boys had an idea. Wait, is possible if they don't use AC. We can put a solar plate on top of the cars..."
Jenny shrugged. "What if there is again a sand storm or rain? Get a good Jeep and enough gasoline. We are around fifty miles away from the other settlement, but it will take us two days to get there if we are lucky."
They understood her meaning, as she pointed at the mess. To get here they needed two hours. And it was just the other side of the city.
After two hours the few young men happily came back with bags full of stones and smiled at her. "We are coming with you. Can we just buy some food, please?"
She chuckled and the screen opened in front of them. After choosing the items will appear in paper bags in front and everyone realized why she asked for space.
Jenny saw their faces and saw only a few dozen coins on their screen. No wonder. She saw everyone already dispersing as they searched for their new home.
With a low voice, she explained. "Get the vegetable mix in the corner. And quick grower. You will have food in two days. Do you have food to eat?"
They looked at each other and shook their heads. She turned around and waved at Jacob to come. As he got near she whispered. "Go bring them two backpacks filled with basic supply under the bed. Quickly."
She turned her head and saw their wondering expressions. "In case we can't walk anymore we already prepared backpacks of food worth one week. I will prepare new backpacks and I am walking store anyway. I'm not worried."
They smiled at her as they realized they don't have to worry. She is really walking store.
Seeing him come back with the two backpacks she smiled. "Good. Go back inside and see how is Meira doing. She seems to be quite tiered."
Jacob rushed back while she put one pack if seeds and liquid plant grower into the backpacks.
"One tiny drop on ten litres of water. Do not let others know. These plants grow fast, so they will have first food in ten days anyway. Try gathering enough pots, put anywhere in the room and plant it. These plants do not need full sun to grow. Let them plant on their balconies, you can put out two or three plants later out, but don't show too many. There is no police and no protection from anyone." She squeezed their hands in worry and sighed. "Too bad you are not coming with us."
The old woman patted her hand and shook her head. ''No child. I love living here. Its were we have been born, met each other and I plan to die here. Going to the other place to die is no option. here is now safe as well."
After that they put backpacks on their back and walked away, holding each other's hands.
