Without anything better to do, Luke decided to train his skills. He already knew that Sonic blade would be pretty cool, but even that surpassed his imagination. Maybe it was due to his new sword, but he left a pretty deep mark when he aimed at the ground. If he aims correctly, he certainly could behead most enemies from a distance… that was pretty stylish. However, it was only possible at short distances due to the cost.

In any case, hopefully, the soldiers will finish their job as soon as possible because even if it was cool, Luke couldn't do the same thing over and over again for several hours…

"I have never seen you so focused before," Mark said.

"That is because my life depends on this," Luke said. "The old world is pretty much gone… we can only rely on ourselves from now on if we want to survive."

"That is true…" Mark nodded.

"What are we going to do now?" Luke asked. " What Are you going to do now? Keep working in the army?"

"Armies can't stop existing… some aren't aren't suited for fighting or don't want to fight, and thus we are needed," Mark replied. "I can't abandon my function since it is the only way to protect my country and our people. What about you, Luke?"

"... I am going to wait and see what I can do," Luke replied while looking in the distance. "I don't know what my end goal is, but I want to make sure that you two will be fine no matter what. So, I was thinking of taking you two to power level somewhere."

"So, you are planning to go somewhere once you confirm that we are strong enough to protect ourselves," Mark said while nodding. "It troubles me to think that my son is treating his parents like weaklings… Still, I can see where you are coming from. You are a grown man, more or less, and you want to follow your own path."

"Why did you have to add more or less?" Luke asked and then sighed. "Anyway, you can't win a battle just by staying on the defense, so I am planning to go on the offense while I am confident in my strength. To stop the monsters from coming, we have to defeat their masters… but they won't expose themselves in our world, so we only have one option."

"Don't take this in the wrong way, but there are people more suited for that kind of job than you," Mark said. "While I understand your feelings, your mom will worry if you disappear now."

"I will return now and then," Luke replied. "I also have to help these two since they helped me more than a little bit as well. I have to repay the favor in some way or the other."

"I won't stop you since you are a man, but just words won't convince your mother," Mark said. "Use your best methods to convince her."

Luke was thankful that his father was respecting his goals. His parents would support one another, but just like Luke left home to go to college, he couldn't keep living under their shadows. Besides, he wouldn't endure for long following the orders of others. His father might be high-ranked in the army, but he wasn't the only one. Not to mention, he wouldn't be treated differently from other soldiers.

Nevertheless, as one would expect, Luke grew bored after training. He practiced his new skill for six hours, and he actually made it level up without killing a single monster. Still, then the night had fallen, and there was no sign of the return of the soldiers.

"They might have run into some problems, but since they didn't contact us, they might have things under control," Billy said.

"But about the other cities?" Chloe asked. "Your commander said that we should hurry up, but…"

Billy was aware of that, but orders were orders. Disrespect the chain of command once, and your subordinates are bound to do the same eventually. Thanks to that, Billy was troubled… he joined the army to serve, so he couldn't care less about who was the stronger if it was a soldier or a civilian. Now he more or less could understand why Luke was being distant. Even though his father was a high-ranked officer, he didn't want to get involved with the military more than he already had. At least with the group being controlled by Frank…

In the end, the group of soldiers only came when the sun was rising on the next day. They had leveled up quite a bit and were carrying tons of loot, but they also lost three of them who had been bitten and had turned into zombies. To make matters worse, they only dealt with one of the remaining hordes of zombies…

"They might have high levels, but they don't have enough tools at their disposal to make good use of their high status," Luke said.

For some reason, the soldiers didn't have a single spell. They didn't have more than one or two passive skills either. They should have obtained tons of gold coins when they cleared Miami, so that didn't make any sense… Unless they bought something else in the shop and that was hidden somewhere.

Regardless, the soldiers were pretty tired, so they will need some time to rest. Using that opportunity, Billy and Mark used the cockpit of the airplane to talk with Frank and convince them to let the others help. Considering the loot that the soldiers obtained, even the survivors that didn't fight until now could help and level up, thus granting them the power to protect themselves. In the end, Frank agreed to it pretty easily… When Luke heard that, he didn't know what to think anymore.

"Oh, well… this is a good opportunity to help my parents obtain the power to protect themselves from most monsters," Luke thought. "However, against the bosses… they will need something else."
