Luke lost his hesitation and then fired his arrow. Despite its insane speed, the enemy attack also came… even faster than his. A lightning bolt came from the monster's mouth and almost fried up Luke's head. The arrow changed its direction and hit the already wounded right leg.
"Urgh!" Luke groaned in pain. "Son of a bitch…"
Luke felt a massive wave of pain pass through his body, but mostly on his leg, and then it went numb. He could see the enemy preparing another attack, so he began to fire arrows to prevent it. He couldn't let such an attack hit him more than once, things might get dangerous due to its numbing effect, even if he could heal pretty fast, he couldn't get rid of negative status at the same pace.
"What the hell are those dumbasses doing?" Shalia asked.
It seemed that Shalia wanted some support from the others, but it was a bit too much when they were ten kilometers above them, and none of them could fly. Even if they worked together to throw someone upward, it would only put them in the same vulnerable position as Luke. Nevertheless, while Luke was firing the arrows, the bird overlord focused on dodging them since they were all aimed at his mouth. The creature was having a hard time attacking with the same spell thanks to that, but at that rate, Luke would run out of mana insanely fast.
"Another flying and electric monster… do you also receive four times more damage against electric attacks?" Luke asked while he was shooting. "Not like mines can reach that far."
Luke slowed down on the shots since his mana was connected to Rina and Amanda, and they still were fighting. If they had any brain, they should have destroyed the red crystal of the bird overlord by now, and the orcs should have disappeared. However, the remaining goblins still should be a problem. So, they would need their energy to fight against those massive numbers.
"Come to think of it, they have the flying fortress and can use it to approach me, but it will take time for them to charge with mana…" Luke thought. "Not to mention, something that big can't help us defeat something this small and fast."
In the end, Luke had an idea… he shot a barrage of attacks that completely disrupted the focus of the overlord. Once he was sure that the enemy wouldn't shoot lightning any time soon, he used Lurk, and his presence almost disappeared. While looking at the enemy and falling, Luke saw the overlord looking to the sides, confused. He had no idea what had happened… It was a simple trick that worked even on the veterans. Despite that, the overlord had its instincts and still managed to attack Luke by flapping its wings and firing the feathers.
"Son of a bitch… I feel like this is becoming my catchphrase," Luke said when he blocked the projectiles with his ax.
This time, Luke bent his body to make him able to hide it behind the ax, and that worked… but then the overlord fired his lightning bolt. The hammer blocked the attack, but the electricity passed through it until it reached Luke. He didn't feel the full power of the attack. Still, it had been enough to make his entire body emit steam for several seconds, as well as putting him out of commission for the same amount of time. When he woke up, he saw the Shalia trying to freeze the enemy with her magic, even though her whole body was covered in burn marks. Something snapped inside Luke's mind; he used the effect of the ax and then threw with all his power toward the enemy who was pulling him to outside the planet. The overlord noticed that Luke hadn't recovered much of his strength, so the throw had been weak, so he grabbed it with its mouth and kept flapping both wings to fly faster… that had been a mistake. Luke used Lightning level three and hit the hammer…
The electricity began to pass through the monster from the interior of its body, causing even more damage and paralyzing the overlord for several seconds. Luke used the same spell two more times until he ran out of mana and the enemy began to fall. Its body was emitting a lot of heat as well, and most of the feathers had become dark or red due to the burn and blood, still… The creature was alive.
While they were falling, Luke recovered his hammer and then grabbed one of the wings of the overlord and began to hack and slash at it. Eventually, the overlord woke up due to the pain, but Luke was already on the halfway point of the first wing. The creature tried to behead him by swinging the other wind at his neck, but Luke repelled the strike with his ax. Luke didn't even realize that he could have ended that a long time ago just by attacking the neck of the enemy. Besides, right now, he wanted that asshole to suffer.
The overlord didn't give up after a single attempt and used the not-so-much wounded wing and arm to attack Luke. He grew tired of repelling both attacks, so he prepared a big swing and then made his ax pierce that wing deeply, making the enemy scream in agony. While the enemy was agonizing, the grabbed the other wing and the shoulder of the enemy and began to pull them apart and open the wound with brute strength alone. Blood began to gush from the wound and rain down on them, but Luke ignored it. At that point in time, the overlord couldn't do much since his body had been taken by the terrifying pain.. Before they could fall on the ground, creating a big crater and raising a massive curtain of dust, Luke successfully pulled away from one of the overlord's wings.
