Crossbows were quite the useful weapons, a lot easier to handle than bows… at least when magic is involved. Nevertheless, Luke used Weapon Augmentation level six when he saw that his ax was out of the range. In the next moment, a powerful gravitational field enveloped the area around the overlord. She and even her spheres were pushed down against the floor. As if that wasn't enough, inside the field, a green mist began to take away her remaining HP.
Luke didn't think that gravity and poison would be able to mix it, but he tested anyway. However, he was shocked by the fact that the Mana Shield was completely useless against a gravity blast…
Regardless, the red crystal was in the range of the attack, so it was broken by the impact, and the fortress began to fall apart. Still, Luke didn't receive the notification of his victory. So, he quickly rushed to the area ahead and then found the night elf still breathing, but the spheres were nowhere to be seen. While he was calm and collected, Luke didn't feel like punching someone to death, so he had to grab his weapon, but then the night elf grabbed his leg. The look in her face was weird and Luke prepared to attack again, but then he heard something unexpected.
"Wait… I… give up," The night elf said.
Luke wondered if he had heard those words right… he probably was mistaken. There was no giving up on a fight like that. It was a fight to the death… even if the enemy were a pretty and exquisite elf, Luke would behead her… once he got his ax.
Nambra wants to become your follower. Do you accept it? Y/N
"What the hell…" Luke frowned.
"Oh… Is this actually possible?" Shalia asked as if she could see the notification as well.
"I assume my defeat… I pledge loyalty to you, master," Nambra said.
"... What are you plotting…" Luke furrowed his eyebrows. "If you try to screw with me, I will show you one fate worse than death… and don't call me, master. You are an overlord that attacked the planet of a species similar to yours."
"... Before I can give you some answers… Can you heal me a bit and escape before we are buried alive?" Nambra asked. "If you are that cautious of me, you can accept me as your follower. I will be unable to disobey you."
Although she was in pain, Nambra was saying that without showing much emotion aside from that one. Thanks to that, Luke felt even more worried that her beating messed with her head. Still, considering how she fought, it made sense that she was like that. Rina and Shalia were quite... too emotional, while Nambra, considering her power level had to experience many things, so it wouldn't be weird if she could maintain that neutral expression most of the time.
"You are too quick to give up…" Luke said, and then he looked at Shalia, who nodded at him.
Shalia would put an ice arrow on her head on the first sign of suspicious activity. In any case, Luke couldn't heal her, so he just put her on his shoulder and then grabbed his weapon before leaving the collapsing fortress.
When they left the place, they saw Rina, Danielle, and Sylah helping the elves fight another army… the orcs were long gone, and now they were fighting some hairy bipedal creatures that had wings of fire on their back. Naturally, since those were there, Luke also found another flying fortress, and it seemed that Richter's group went to face the overlord. That battle was taking too long, but maybe it was their chance to finish all of the enemies at once... If only Luke could be that positive about it...
"Things just keep getting better and better…" Luke muttered in annoyance.
"... What happened, Luke?" Rina frowned upon seeing Luke bringing the overlord instead of taking it down.
"She gave up once she was on the ground and then apparently, offered herself to become my minion," Luke replied. "The system recognized that, but I smelled something off with it. In the end, I couldn't bring myself to cut the head of someone who had given up."
"She is an elf from another world…" Rina kept frowning. "I would like to ask some questions, but we don't have the time here.
Luke nodded. They had to go and help Richter's party finish the enemy and then get out as soon as possible. They fought for far too long in that place, and after so many enemies clashing against each other, it wouldn't be weird if more overlords appeared. After so many intense battles, everyone was at their limits, so things could get messy if he doesn't step up and end things.
"My apologies for saying this, but this won't be possible," Nambra said. "I operate in an area pretty far away from here, and I noticed your movements, so I can say that the others will notice too. If you leave for that fortress now, you will leave your army unprotected from enemy attacks."
"Why do you care? You are one of them, after all," Rina said.
"I am an overlord indeed, but I didn't attack your people," Nambra replied. "I arrived on this planet recently because I was looking for someone strong among your species."
"What for?" Rina asked while furrowing her eyebrows.
"My species was completely decimated by the invaders, and I am the sole survivor of my home planet," Nambra replied. "I cannot let our bloodline disappear from the universe. That is why I came looking for a strong elf in this world.. However, instead of mixing the blood of my species with another species of elves, I want the seed of this man."
