265: Reigning Chaos
Faustina slowly opened her eyes, the first thing she had seen was how the sunlight illuminated her pale skin; and then, the chirping of birds followed, along with the faint smell of the ocean breeze lingering within the room.
Slowly, she sat up. And that's when she felt the sting in the middle of her t.h.i.g.hs.
Faustina's face reddened. Last night… did she and the king do it?
"I…" Faustina bit her lips.
Memories from the night before flashed in her mind—but they were momentary, for there was a bigger issue at hand.
The first continent is at chaos.
Warlocks have plagued Zuerst. At this rate, armistice between the first and second continent will be harder to patch back together.
Something innate has been broken.
It was as if for a thousand years, the peace only hung by a thread that was destined to be cut all along.
**
The king was the first to wake up. He stared at Faustina first, admiring her as he processed that they became one. She was his. He was hers. Their soul have bind with each other.
Moreover…
It was all healed.
"So… this is…" The king turned to Faustina.
This was the power of a contract between a girl who possessed both the blood of a warlock, a mage, and a part Heilen.
Faustina.
The king rose to undo the badges as he went outside of the cabin. The sea from below welcomed him.
It was deceiving. All seemed peaceful in here—
But his country, the first continent—
Was in chaos.
The king knew he had to hurry back to his subjects.
**
Sheilalev bit her nail as she paced back and forth. The wide doors opened, with the Diener des Lichts coming inside of it. Their footsteps were soundless, making the thumping on Sheila's heart louder than it actually is.
"Have you found him?"
'The king cannot be found within the premises of the first continent,' the servants spoke in unison, but their lips were still sealed shut.
'There is a barrier in Magierstadt and the second continent.' They stated. 'We have no means of piercing through the strong barriers of black magic.'
Black magic.
Even to Sheila, it was ominous to hear such thing. It was as if black magic was something normal now—when it had been long forbidden for a thousand of years.
"High Priestess!"
Coming inside was now the knights of Feuersturm.
As usual, Vice Captain Abe was nowhere to be found.
"Where is Abe?"
"He is in search of the king," the captain answered. "Abe has his own ways of searching."
Sheila knew that, but she felt that she should ask.
"Gather everyone." Sheila said as she walked, with the knights and the diener des lichts following her.
"We must prepare the troops," she said. "Feursturm… no. The entire continent is now at WAR."
**
The door opened, revealing the king. Contrary to Faustina, the king looked presentable. Faustina still had her bed hair.
"Oh, you're awake now," the king smiled as he brought the tray that had a bowl of porridge to the bedside.
"Your majesty… last night…"
The king kissed her forehead.
"Yes," he said. "Last night was amazing."
Faustina blushed furiously as the king chuckled.
"Eat up now. We will be going back to the province." He said.
"How…?"
The king smiled.
"I am the king of Feuersturm." He said. "There will be a way."
--
Knew how to combat black magic.
They were able to teleport back to the province, walking towards the castle. The king held Faustina's hands as he walked forward; shards of magic dissipating towards the air as the breeze from the portal flowed through.
**
"The king has returned!"
Walking into the hallway was the unscathed king of Feuersturm. His guards was walking on his trail. He held Faustina's hand, keeping her close.
But it was not enough for the dim gazes towards Faustina to die down.
The likeness was clear; black hair, red eyes, and the hint of infernal magic… Faustina was the child of the forsaken, the one who massacred the royal family, and caused all the chaos that now reigned into the continent.
Before, they regarded her as a healer. A savior. The one who will be able to sustain the king's life.
But all had changed now. Faustina felt the hostility rise up as more people gathered. They looked at her as if she was an eyesore, while they looked at their dignified king as a respectable entity who held hands with evil.
"Faustina!"
The king loosened his grip around her hands, indicating it was okay for Faustina to let go. She ran back to Orwell and they embraced.
"Orwell…" Faustina mumbled. "Your safe…"
Orwell then parted from their hug, and then examined Faustina. He then blinked, realizing the strong presence he had never felt before.
It was emanating from the king.
"Your majesty." Orwell bowed down, hand on his c.h.e.s.t. "We rejoice your safe return. Glory upon the Feuersturm Empire."
There was something that was different about the king. His aura had gotten stronger.
Orwell flinched as he met his gaze.
Way stronger than before.
And strangely enough, that aura can also be felt on Faustina.
Did they…?
"The contract…" Orwell murmured. "It has been fulfilled."
The king held Faustina's hand as they continued to walk, leaving Orwell stopping on his tracks. Faustina looked back on him, but he didn't budge from his place.
Orwell felt a strange chill shiver down his spine.
Something ominous is about to take place.
He was sure of it.
