Chapter 160 - No place here

"Leviticus..."

Faustina couldn't believe it— he—

"You came... for me...?"

They were both out of their breaths and had barely escaped the undead princess. Leviticus was panting, his hand a bit tremulous as he held his staff. He then turned towards her, reaching to her arm.

"Your arm." Leviticus exclaims, "is swelling like this because of the continuous flow of mana you've exerted. What spell did you use to have it like this?"

"W-water whirlpool..." Faustina answered; her face was evident with sheer anxiety. She was fidgeting, looking around.

"Don't worry. The undead does not leave their chambers," Leviticus says. "So they say."

Faustina stared at Levi who was caressing the protruding nerves on her arms. They were still pulsating, but the pain can be forgotten when fear strikes. However, now that Faustina's at ease, the agony came back as she feels the sting from Leviticus' touch.

"Wait a sec," Leviticus exclaimed, and then with his other hand he ripped his dark cloak—the part of Magierstadt's uniform—and then coming was a piece of a fabric which was then wrapped to both of Faustina's arms.

"This won't do much but it'll probably let the nerves go back to their original shape," Leviticus exclaimed. "I can't do healing magic, so I don't know if I can do something in your current state."

"It's alright," Faustina answered. "I-I can still fight."

Leviticus tilted his head and then sighed.

And then...

"Aw..."

He flicked Faustina's forehead.

Faustina, who was taken aback, reach to touch her forehead which had been marked red by Leviticus. She blinked several times in surprise.

"What in the world? 'Fight'? That's not the whole point here." Leviticus asserted. "You ought to say you will strive to pass."

Faustina tilted her head as Leviticus ambled his way forward.

"You see, wordings are necessary when you're a mage. You will have to uphold values that will reflect your character. If you show the people that you yourself aren't sure of what you're saying, no one will give you their full trust." Leviticus lessoned. "At least, that's what I learned from the people I've been with."

Faustina walked beside Leviticus who had walked with her to the halls. They were both holding their staff and meeting apparitions who were peering over them. The light of the gems was making the ghosts unable to even creep close. It was peculiarly silent, but the silence was comfortable rather than an awkward one.

Faustina was feeling ease in her chest as she walks with Leviticus into the hallway. Maybe it was because she isn't feeling alone anymore.

"Where are we going now?"

"To our original destination," Leviticus said. "Although I realized that this dark castle made a warp. This isn't the hallway I came from."

Faustina blinked.

"A warp?"

"Yes. When I came to the chambers of the undead princess I had a hall that was half-destroyed. But now that we came out, the hall is entirely fixed, so I guess there's some kind of warp."

"A time warp?"

"Yes," Leviticus exclaimed. "It means there's a time warp in this dimension. I can't exactly put my thumb through it, but it's one of the undead's abilities."

Faustina remembers now.

"The ability of the undead princess is to shapeshift," Faustina uttered. "So another undead royal has the ability to warp the time?"

"That's incredibly amazing if you think about it. These undead royals manifested warlock powers." Leviticus exclaimed with a smile. "But then again, the undead king is their father. That's given, considering he was a powerful warlock."

Faustina tilted her head.

"You're very knowledgeable about the undead royals, aren't you, Leviticus?"

"Just Levi," Leviticus smiles as he turns his gaze to Faustina for a second, before looking at the path ahead once more. "I'm actually well-versed with the Dark Castle itself because it appeared in many textbooks I've seen in Zweite, my home continent."

"Oh! And... uh... books that I picked from the streets, alright? Commoners can barely afford paper, after all." Leviticus apprehensively exclaimed. "Anyways. I've read about the dark castle here and there. About the undead king, and stuff."

"About the undead king?"

"Yes. Have you heard of the famous line 'who calls themselves purely good, but fails to recognize no one is inherently evil.'?"

"Oh...! Yes. I've seen that line from one of Goldenfag's and Folkmanor's books. About a certain king that was massacred with his family... is the family and the king..."

"Yes. That is the undead king." Levi answered. "They aren't much discussed since they hold no significant contribution to the world of magic. They are warlocks, people who use dark magic which is a forbidden art."

"Magierstadt used warlocks in the dungeon...?"

"I believe so," Leviticus answered. "Honestly, I don't know what this school's thinking. It's very dangerous to use cursed souls for something as trivial as an exam."

"A-aren't we fighting artificial monsters?"

"The trolls, ghosts, cyclops, and goblins. Those are what the artificial monsters are." Leviticus explained. "But the undead royals... no. I don't think so. Accursed souls cannot be copied, only contained. But then again, Magierstadt managed to have the undead royals to a tranquil state, so they aren't that dangerous."

"They aren't that dangerous? It's alarming. People are told to fight these warlocks with their lives and know they are real... that's just..."

"Hey, hey, I didn't tell you that for you to be scared." Leviticus then stopped walking to face Faustina.

"Listen. Remember when Professors said that after our mana reaches a certain rate, we'll be teleported back to the academy. That speaks for safety. Magierstadt is the top, elite school for any aspiring mages. They clearly have it contained considering how smooth it is going... though there might be a flaw since that Anakin Disfiegro got away from doing such a low act."

"Anakin's... low act?"

"Yes. He had mana revitalizers." Leviticus said. "He framed you for it, didn't he?"

Faustina blinked several times.

So it was Anakin.

"Alright. We have to move forward. We would be able to meet the others if we continue to move northeast. Until then, you ought to rest and calm your nerves."

**

Even though Faustina had been told about Magierstadt being able to contain these accursed souls, she still couldn't stay put.

And maybe that was because of one thing—

The marionette in the dungeon.

And it wasn't entirely impossible to have a marionette in the dungeon now, given the fact that the origin was of a warlock. That'll put the odds for Faustina.

Jonathan.

Her fear.

One of those accursed souls were able to see through her fear and then had shapeshifted to Jonathan.

Shapeshift to Jonathan.

"We're always being able to see each of you at the exam."

Faustina stopped to her tracks.

If the teachers were able to see her in the exam, then that means they saw her fear—fear of Jonathan Unsterblich!

**

"How odd, that child's fear."

"I've seen the others encounter some fear of death, and interestingly even fear of professor Mariam~!"

"Shut up, Yusha."

"But isn't it odd, to have that child paint the forsaken so vividly in her mind as if she had seen her in person? His features have sharpened as well, as if... he had grown." Professor Miketsukami pointed out.

The teachers were facing the projected screens and were talking about the students.

Or one student—particularly.

"That child's imagination must be very vivid. She will be a good clairvoyant if she shows a sign of seeing prophecy." Professor Zoe Klein, the dean for Clairvoyants, exclaimed.

"I think she'll make a great tamer since she could incur magical beasts easily with her imagination." Professor Gimli Dorf, the professor in-charge of taming monsters, argued. "That talent is golden. Perhaps could even pass for Ianua II."

"You think too highly of her, Gimli." Professor Lotus Mande twirled her hair. "Have you seen the way she fought? She didn't know how to control her magic. Her mana is erratic as well. I've heard rumors about her being Feuerlon's youngest daughter but I can barely see the semblance between her and my pioneer student Lucas. She's too dull, unsophisticated, and unbefitting. The only redeeming thing about her is the way she used her mana and her wild imagination. The rest of her qualities are lacking."

"Eeehhhh? Isn't it too early to judge her, Mande?" Yusha then grinned. "I find her very interesting. Oh, and especially that Leviticus boy. He's the prince of Atziluth, no?"

"Yes. The queen requested we speak nothing about it." Professor Yoan said. "Though she didn't have to worry considering external affairs do not matter to us."

"That queen really underestimated Magierstadt, heh!" Professor Indio Wells said. "This is why I dislike her the most."

"Don't involve your personal matters here, Indio. Just because you aren't chosen as one of the consorts, you're whining like crazy." Yoan exclaimed.

"Haah?" Professor Indio raised his brow.

"D-don't fight..." Professor Ramsha appeased.

"You're oddly silent, Professor Mariam - the most feared instructor of all time~" Yusha grinned as she tilted her head to Mariam, whose eyes were fixated to Faustina.

"Interested in her? Do you want her in your class~?"

Mariam didn't take her eyes off of Faustina.

"She is clearly a weak child," Mariam uttered. "But her mana begs to differ."

"Hm?" Yusha tilted her head.

"Right now all she could do is prove her significant amount of mana can overshadow her weak personality," Mariam said,

"Otherwise, she has no place here."
