Putting the phone down, Bobby quietly dashed to Nadia, making sure to make as little noise as possible by standing on his tiptoes. "Nadia, don't sleep now! Uncle Jay wants to take us to Mommy." Bobby nudged her softly with his hand just as she was about to doze off.
"Aw, alright then." Nadia visibly forced her eyes open, leaving her in a sleepy daze.
Satisfied with her reply, he scurried away to get her coat and aided the sleepy girl in putting it on, wrapping it around her body in a hurried and messy fashion.
Just as Bobby finished fastening the coat unto her petite form, the growl of a car engine from the driveway reached their ears.
"Let's go. Uncle Jay is here." The boy reached for Nadia's hand and gently pulled her along as they started to make their way out of the door and into the front yard.
"Wait!" the panicked voice of the maid called out from behind as she rushed to chase after Bobby and Nadia, "where are you two going?"
"It's okay. Uncle Jay came to pick us up for Mommy." Bobby gripped Nadia's hand tighter within his own and began to speed away from the woman until they were rushing out the front door.
Taking notice of their attempt to escape, the maid swiftly followed after them.
She immediately came face to face with the man himself. "Don't worry about it. I'll drive them back here after a bit." Jay shut the door of his car with a slam and addressed her concern.
"Understood, Mr. Fang." The housemaid was well-aware of who Jay was, along with his connections to Charles. She promptly shut her mouth and dared not to interfere with the situation any further.
Had it been any other person who showed up to pick up the kids, she would've argued and stubbornly kept them inside.
She was sure she wouldn't know what to d
me." Nancy flashed an assuring grin to the worried pair and gently took one child's hand into each of her own as a sign of comfort.
"Nancy, don't listen to the kids. I'm sure there are other young men here that are interested in you. Just stay for a little longer," Angelina interrupted the soft mother-children conversation with a hushed suggestion. Just moments ago, Lyndon and Nancy were having the time of their lives basking in each other's presence before these two meddling kids arrived just in time to shatter their wonderful moment.
She swore they came for the sole purpose of ruining all her plans!
"Mom, the kids are here. We should just call it a night," Nancy retorted with a smile that glowed patience.
There was nothing Angelina could do as she was faced with such expression except a heavy sigh of defeat. "Well, I'll just invite you some other time, then."
"No way!" Bobby hastily piped up from between the two women.
"Fine with me, you brat. Let's head home, then." Reaching a hand to her forehead in response to the throbbing headache she'd gained from the past half hour of having to deal with ruined events, the elderly woman has accepted that she had no other choice but to compromise to the children's wishes for now.
The drive home had been swift and comparably quieter to the car ride Bobby and Nadia took to the private club—which was understandable, as it wasn't Uncle Jay who drove the car but their Mommy instead.
Just as they had gotten out of the car, Bobby made a beeline towards the phone, excited to recount all the events that had taken place to Charles. What he looked forward to the most was telling the man over the line how he and Nadia had valiantly protected their mother from bad men and taken her home safe and sound.
