Perhaps it was because Doris was too tired and disheartened, but when a car sped right over her, she didn't bother to dodge away. It seemed to her that the best thing to do by this point was to just leave the world this way. If she was simply dead, all the sorrow and pain would be over.
"Hey, girl! Are you insane?" A person suddenly pulled her hard from behind and the car swiftly whooshed past her.
"You bitch! If you want to die, you should go home and find a rope to hang yourself! Don't hurt me in the process!" the driver shouted angrily at her.
A melancholic smile appeared on Doris' lips. She raised her head and the looked at the woman who was holding her arm. "Why did you save me?" she asked.
The person who saved her was an elder woman, who looked like she was past her 50's. Although she covered her face with heavy makeup, the wrinkles on her face were still very apparent.
"Silly girl. Since I saw it happening, of course I must save you." The woman brought her to a bar by the roadside and asked Doris to sit down. A few moments later she came back and brought her a hot cup of coffee. "Have some coffee to warm up your body."
Doris meekly took the cup with both her hands and thanked the woman
The woman smiled back at her
t her apologetically and said, "Doris, I hope you don't mind that it's a little dirty here. You seem to live in prosperity now. Our house is so dirty that I'm afraid that you might not want to go inside."
"No, it's not a problem. I'll only be here for a while," Doris said slowly, as she observed the place quietly.
"Alright," replied Felix.
Around the same time, they heard a fierce cough coming from the room.
Doris assumed that it was probably Felix's mother.
After settling down for a bit, Doris walked towards the room. When she got inside, the room was dim. She saw a tiny bed sitting in the corner of the room, on which an old lady was lying down.
"Auntie!" Doris greeted enthusiastically.
"Who's here?" the old woman asked, catching her breath.
"Mother, Doris is here. Don't you always talk about how you miss her? I finally brought her here, like you wanted. Look, she's going to be mother now!" Felix gently nudged Doris towards his mother.
"Oh, it's really Doris. Come here and let me look at you," the old woman said while she rubbed her eyes.
The place was slummy and decaying, beyond her expectations. She hadn't come back here for so many years and she never expected to ever return.
How was everything over here?
