With her lips slight trembling and eyes evidently apprehensive, Doris grabbed Felix's clothes tightly.
"It’s okay, I’m here," the latter comforted, sensing her uneasiness. The unfamiliarity of the man, standing with a domineering posture, frightened Doris like a child.
And as she hid behind Felix’s broad back, tears began to well up on the corners of her eyes.
Nothing about Jay seemed to hit home in Doris’ mind. And the more she looked at the man, the more foreign she felt.
"Doris, although our relationship has not been made public, we are already married! The law had mandated us to be together and spend the rest of our lives together! So, come on! Go home with me, please?"
Jay imitated Felix's soft, loving tone, hoping that his wife would warm up to him. But because it was so out of his character, he ended up sounding very awkward. Even Hanson and his subordinates couldn't help laughing at how silly their boss looked right now.
The former must have really scraped the bottom of the barrel to mention the law in this situation.
Although it was indeed hilarious, they knew Jay was right––the law could really back him up.
After all, they had signed marriage certificates to prove everything he was claiming. So, no matter how much she denied it, Jay would still prevail.
"Really?" Disbelief was written all over Doris’ face as she listened to the man’s explanation.
"Come home with me and see for yourself! If you stay here, I’ll have no choice but to tell the police that you’re committing bigamy. And don't say that the baby you’re carrying is Felix'

And every minute that passed without any update, Nancy grew more anxious.
She stood and paced back and forth while praying that nothing terrible had happened to her friend.
"Nancy?" Edward came in, holding a cup of hot milk in one hand while the other rested in his pocket.
"Hey. Why haven't you gone to bed yet?" she asked, stopping on her track before settling on the couch.
"Charles hasn't come back yet, and I can't fall asleep. You and him..." Edward was most concerned and evidently conflicted about the two.
On the one hand, he was afraid that Nancy and Charles would break each other’s hearts. On the other hand, he seemed to be looking forward to the couple’s break-up.
"Yes. Derrick and Joseph had been stirring a ruckus. He must be dealing with those trifles!" she answered, taking the cup and sipping on it.
"Do you think he did this for me, you, or himself?" The curiosity in his tone caused Nancy to raise her gaze back at him.
"For all of us!" she answered without hesitation.
"Do you love him very much?" Edward's heart ached as he asked this question. But even so, he still gambled.
"I rely on him, I should say. Why are you asking me this question all of a sudden?" Confusion was now painted all over her face as Nancy slightly cocked her head to the right and narrowed her eyes.
"Nothing. It's good to have someone to rely on. You used to..." Edward wanted to say something but stopped on second thought. He remembered how Nancy used to depend on him in the past, but now the man by her side had become Charles.
