“School’s finally over! Let’s go eat something delicious.”
“Not me, I want to go home and sleep!”
Xi Yan watched the students wistfully as they exchanged plans and made their way out into the hall.
…
The next morning.
It was already nine o’clock when Yao Tangwoke up.
She blinked a few times and pulled her phone from under her pillow. Cheng Yanhad sent her a message:
“Meet me at the school gates at ten.”
Yao Tang’s reply was short: “K.”
Most of the other residents had gone home for the weekend, and only Lin Xin,Yao Tang, and another girl namedFang Ruiremained.
The other two were still fast asleep. They were generally lazy during the weekends, and often just lay in bed for hours.
Yao Tang gingerly got down from her bunk and fetched her cup to wash up.
The entire building was quiet, with only the sound of her footsteps echoing in the walls as she padded over to the bathroom.
She looked out the window and proceeded to brush her teeth.
It was sunny outside, with clear, blue skies overhead.
The weather was pretty nice, but Yao Tangmade a mental note of applying some sunscreen to be safe.
She finished her business in the bathroom and headed to her meager wardrobe.
For today’s outing, she settled on a black dress that went with almost anything, and paired it with a beige sun hat.
Her attire was simple yet chic.
Yao Tang walked to the school gates a few minutes before ten.
Cheng Yan was already there when she arrived, leaning against the railings with an umbrella in hand.
He was dressed casually as well, and the carefree look on his face made him look younger and all the more charming.
He smiled when he spotted Yao Tang, his eyes glinting in the sunlight.
Cheng Yan rushed over and opened his umbrella to provide her with some shade.
Yao Tang raised an eyebrow. “Quite dedicated, aren’t you?”
She spoke slowly, almost languidly.
Her fair skin was practically shimmering, and her jet-black hair fluttered in the light morning breeze.
Cheng Yan’s smile widened.
He held the umbrella up high and used his free arm to gather her close as he ushered her over to his waiting car.
He opened the door to the backseat and made sure Yao Tangwas all settled before putting the umbrella away.
The first thing that Yao Tangnoticed was the basket of treats sitting in the middle of the backseat.
There were small packets of fruit snacks, and a box of cake with decorated with a little red swan.
“I got you mango-flavored yogurt tea this time,” Cheng Yansaid as he got into the car from the other side.
The beverage was specially made per his wishes.
He gave the cup a little shake and pierced the seal himself before handing it to Yao Tang.
She sipped the drink happily, even as she took out her phone and opened one of her many gaming apps.
“Where are we headed, Young Master Cheng?” the driver asked, glancing at the rearview mirror.
Cheng Yan turned toYao Tangin silent question.
“Let’s go to Tian Run Mall,” she said without hesitation. “There are a lot of options there.”
“To Tian Run Mall, then.”
“Of course, Sir,” the driver nodded before starting the engine.
Cheng Yan leaned back into a comfortable position and watchedYao Tangplay her mobile games.
A comfortable silence fell over the car as they sped through the highway.
After finishing a round, Yao Tangplucked a snack from the basket and munched on it, then started playing a second round.
Her nimble fingers moved around her screen in between sips of her milk tea.
Soon enough, she had managed to completely wipe out her opponent.
