Not long after, Cheng Zhou’s phone rang, interrupting the peaceful atmosphere. He immediately picked up.
“Secretary Liu,” he greeted. “Just send the documents from the teacher’s building, would you? What do you mean by ‘which building’? It’s the one on the west end—never mind. I’ll go to you instead. Just wait at the school gate.”
Sensing that it was time for her to leave, Yao Ran stood up. “Mr. Cheng,” she hesitated. “Why don’t I head back first? You can go ahead.”
“No, help yourself. Besides, it’s much quieter here than in the classroom. Please, excuse me for a few minutes. I just have to get something first.”
With a nod of his head, he grabbed his suit jacket and walked out of the room.
Yao Ran took the opportunity to sit down. As soon as she saw Cheng Zhouwalking down the stairs, she couldn’t help but glance at the paper that he had been holding. After making sure that he was already gone, she grabbed the test paper.
At the top, she saw the header.
It was for the Olympiad Math Competition!
Yao Ran’s eyes widened. She had heard rumors that No. 1 High School would be holding the Olympiad Math Competition. She had also heard that they would offer a very generous reward. Everyone would know the first place, so much so, that they’d have a sure shot at any university they please!
It was a great honor!
Her breathing was already ragged, she tightened her grip on the questionnaire and took her phone from her pocket. Then, she began to take photos.
Click! Click! Click!
Within a few minutes, Yao Ran had already finished taking photos of all the test questions. A small smile brightened up her entire face as she placed the questionnaire back in its original spot. After making sure that Cheng Zhouwouldn’t be able to notice the difference, she packed up her things and hurried down the stairs.
As she was walking, she bumped into a couple of classmates of hers. She bowed her head and sped down the corridor.
Her heart raced in her chest, and her face appeared as flushed as ever.
“This time, I’ll definitely get first place,” she murmured under her breath. “I don’t care what the prize is. Yao Tang wouldn’t be able to beat me.”
As soon as she had returned to her classroom, she finally sighed in relief. Even then, the tremors in her heart couldn’t be calmed down. Now, all she wanted to do was head back home and study the exam questions as carefully as possible.
“Young Master Cheng, I’ve brought some experts for the Olympiad. They’ve all been invited all the way from Beijing.”
Secretary Wang stepped outside of the car, motioning to the three male teachers standing behind him.
“Let’s talk in my office.”
As soon as the three old professors arrived, they immediately sat down and studied the questionnaire. Finally, one of them took a deep breath and pointed at the first question he had seen.
“Young Master Cheng, I would like to point your attention to the loopholes I’ve spotted.”
The old professor adjusted his glasses.
“What do you mean?” Cheng Zhou reviewed the notes they had all written down.
The original test questions had been written by the three professors, and they all had notes all over them. On the last question, there were a few words that had been circled with a red pen.
“Yes. The answers can vary, and they must be supplemented. Other than the last question, we have no other concerns.”
The other professors nodded in agreement.
The old professors were all very excellent mathematicians. They had judged a thousand Olympiad Math Competitions over the years. As such, they were already very experienced when it came to questions like this.
If the participant wasn’t able to supplement the question, then they would immediately be considered incorrect.
“Of course. I’ll inform the school.” He nodded. “Thank you for your assistance.”
“No Problem!”
The professors nodded. It was a pleasure to work with the Cheng Family.
..
“What did you find out?”
Cheng Wei sat in the busy coffee shop, sporting a pair of black sunglasses and a wide sunhat to cover her face. She was stirring a cup of coffee as she regarded the person sitting in front of her.
Luckily, she had been able to find an investigative team in City A.
She had spent a lot of money to get them to investigate Yao Tang’s movements in and out of No. 1 High School. They were also tasked to take photos of her if they spotted her with any man.
