When Maisy woke up the next day, the space on the bed next to her was empty as usual.
She put her clothes on her sore body and tried to massage her waist to make herself feel better. It was already past breakfast time, and she was famished.
Her breakfast was still on the dining table. She heated it up with the microwave. With a loud ding, she opened the microwave door, and steam came out of it.
As she ate her hot meal. She couldn’t help but smile at the thought that she would attend a party with Jay later that day.
Maisy had lived in the lower class for all her life and had no idea what the party of the higher class was like. She pictured that it would be very elegant, and people would cheer each other with glasses of wine or champagne. If she was there, she would be nothing more than a decoration for Jay.
Maisy bit her lips as she again realized that Jay and she were people from two different worlds.
She spent the rest of her day doing nothing until the sun was starting to set. Jay had sent someone to pick her up. When the driver opened the door to the backseat for her, she was shocked to see another gorgeous lady in it.
“Why are you here?” Maisy asked in surprise.
Lily smiled back at the young lady. “Mr. Hamilton has ordered me to give the countryside bumpkin a makeover,” she mocked.
Maisy wanted to refute but couldn’t. She had been busy with her part-time job throughout her two years as a university student and never had the chance to dress up like her friends. A countryside bumpkin was a relatively good description of her.
Lily took Maisy to an expensive store that sold evening dresses and provided makeup services.
“Ms. Thomas! Welcome back to our humble store!” The person in charge of the store greeted enthusiastically the moment he saw Lily,
Lily had an arrogant smile on her face and pointed at Maisy, who was standing behind her.
“Give her a makeover,” she ordered.
The man who greeted Lily looked at Maisy and was in awe at how innocent the young lady looked. Her elegant facial features had perfectly complimented her petite body. She was a pure beauty that was rarely seen nowadays. With just a little makeup and a beautiful dress, he could make her the most attractive lady at the event she was going to attend.
“Oh! What a beauty!” the person in charge complimented her.
Lily frowned at that comment. Her intention of bringing Maisy to the store was not to make the lady pretty. She was there to humiliate Maisy.
“Argh! Enough! I’ll do it!” Lily scowled and snatched the tray of foundation away from the makeup artist. She then picked the darkest tone on it and roughly applied it to Maisy’s face.
The moment the foundation was applied, Maisy’s face became a few shades darker. Compared to her usual fair skin, it was as if she was another person.
“Stop it!” Maisy grabbed Lily’s hand that had an eyeliner in it. Her face was filled with disgust.
However, Lily smacked Maisy’s hand away and was about to apply the dark purple eyeliner on the young lady.
Maisy immediately got up and pushed Lily back. “Hey! That won’t look good on me! I don’t need you to help me! I believe the makeup artist here is better than you at their job!” she scolded.
Lily threw the eyeliner on the table and scoffed. “What does a country bumpkin like you know? Do you think I don’t know what makes a girl pretty after working by Mr. Hamilton’s side for so long? Edward, am I right?”
Edward Harrison was the person in charge of the store. He glanced at the young lady’s face, which was made ugly. Instead of agreeing with Lily, he decided to stay quiet.
Suddenly, Lily’s arrogant expression changed as she saw Jay walking through the door.
The atmosphere turned even more awkward the moment the man arrived. Not a single person dared to talk to him.
Jay walked to Maisy’s side and raised her head to check her face.
“Lily Thomas! I asked you to make her pretty, not ugly! Are you deaf or dumb?” Jay scolded.
Lily wanted to defend herself, but she couldn’t find her voice when she met Jay’s intense glare..
