"I'm sorry to inform you but you have Preeclampsia. It is a pregnancy complication that causes high blood pressure, kidney damage, and other problems. Preeclampsia is a potentially life-threatening condition that affects about 5 percent of pregnant women. Preeclampsia may not cause any symptoms but can still be very dangerous to you and your baby, even if you feel fine. Your gynecologistwill have to screen you for the condition at every prenatal visit by taking your blood pressure, and if it's high, testing your urine for protein." The doctor stated.
"So what's the way forward?" Kyle rubbed my back trying to comfort me.
"Right now you're at increased risk of seizures, placental abruption, stroke and possibly severe bleeding until your blood pressure decreases. Of course,it's too early in your pregnancy, so delivery may not be the best thing for your baby. For now I would recommend taking things slow, changing your diet slightly, here is a list-and you'll need to come in more often for prenatal visits — likely more frequently than what's typically recommended for pregnancy. You'll also need more frequent blood tests, ultrasounds and non-stress tests than would be expected in an uncomplicated pregnancy."
"Other possible treatment for preeclampsia may include, medications to lower blood pressure. These medications, called anti hypertensives, are used to lower your blood pressure if it's dangerously high. Although there are many different types of anti hypertensive medications, a number of them aren't safe to use during pregnancy. Fortunately, you don't need to use an anti-hypertensive medicine in your situation-not yet anyway. " The doctor pushed up his spectacles and hugged the charts to his chest.
"Coincidentally, we're on honeymoon. My wife is a bit of a workaholic Doc so I hope she will take your advice and rest." Kyle looked at me pointedly.
"Mrs Kinley, I cannot stress enough how serious your condition is. Please take care of yourself and your baby. If your condition gets worse then I will be forced to hospitalize you." The doctor stressed.
"I will do as you say Dr Brandt. No need to give my husband more reason to smother me." I rolled my eyes.
"Just one more question..is sex off limits??" Kyle crossed his fingers.
"No it isn't-as long its not Fifty Shades then it should be fine." Dr Brandt laughed at his own joke.
"Thank you Dr I will try and keep it PG." Kyle laughed.
"If you don't have further questions then you're free to go and enjoy the rest of your holiday." He left the room.
"Babe, you heard the doctor for yourself. You need to slow down my love. Please don't fight me on this?" He pleaded.
"Yes. I understand and I will try and take it easy." I grabbed Kyle's hand as he helped me off the bed.
"I don't want you to be stressed with work or anything. We need to keep your blood pressure down. So no more taking on big projects-let someone else handle it okay?"
"It's easy for you to say."I sulked.
"No Maya. I'm very serious okay? Your life should be more important than your work. Besides I've told Mike not to accept any other endorsements or proposals or anything that will take me away from you. I want to be herefor you and our baby." He opened the door for me and let me walk out first.
"Really? You didn't have to do that baby." I stopped and hugged him. " Let's not talk about this anymore okay? Please?" I laid my head on his chest.
"I'm sorry babe. I know you must be freaking out but I promise not to talk about it if you promise not to overdo it." He rubbed my back gently as he hugged me.
"Promise." I sighed.
"Good. Now let's go home and relax? Sounds good?" He smiled.
"Sounds good." I winked at him.
"You're hungry? I was thinking we could take a ride on the glass floored boat and have lunch there? You're game?" He asked with excitement.
"Of cos!" I exclaimed.
"Actually I have a better idea..I just need to make a few calls first. Wait here." He led me to a table outside a side-walk restaurant. The waiter came and I ordered two ice-teas and he brought them promptly. Kyle came and sat at the table unable to contain his excitement.
"I've just booked us in to The Muraka at Conrad Maldives Rangali Island for the night. It's an undersea villa-below the ocean. I checked with Dr Brandt and he has given us the greenlight. It will actually be the perfect place for you to rest I think..You're in?" His eye shone with excitement.
"Oh my gosh!! I can't wait! You're the best husband ever!" I stood up and hopped onto his lap, smothering his face with kisses.
"Hey PDA overload!" Kyle laughed as he took my face between his hands and kissed me on the lips.
"I need to caption this moment. It's priceless." He held up his phone and snapped a couple of shots and posted them on his social media as usual.
"When do we leave?" I put my hands around his neck again.
"Like now. Our car should be here in about five minutes. Let's settle the bill so long." He waved to the waiter.
The chauffeur arrived and drove us back to the villa. We packed a few things and went directly to the submarines floating dry-dock called the 'Whale House'.We boarded the submarine and descended to a submerged reef 25 meters beneath the surface where we saw a colorful display of corals and different types of reef fish.I took out my camera and took a lot of photos.
Next stop at 40 meters was yet another type of coral garden and depending on the current the submarine beached on a sandy spot just close to a cave that led to the villa.
The villa was on the ocean floor and came complete with an undersea bedroom, living space and bathroom. It was an exclusive thrill-seeking, dining and cultural experience, with a dedicated team of 24-hour staff and butlers.
We had lunch in the world's first undersea restaurant, with a panoramic coral garden view and good food and good company.
