Chapter 106 - UNDERWORLD

That one statement got the four youngsters to widen their eyes. They were shocked to know that Selena still had her last words for them, or maybe for Kevin.

Selena had gone even without leaving a corpse. The police with their forensic team had visited the island again to identify the exploded site, and they found two human's DNA and one werewolf's DNA on the site.

The trace of the DNA was scattered due to the strong explosion. With that result, the government announced that the masterminds of the calamity had died.

But, that was the only information that was announced to the public. The government decided to keep the identity of the masterminds for internal affairs. They intended to save Kevin and Kris' face by hiding the truth that their parents were the real masterminds.

It was undeniably a wise decision. If the public learned the truth, they would surely throw hateful gazes at Kevin and Kris, and the two of them wouldn't be able to live a peaceful life again afterward.

Now that they heard about Selena again, they couldn't help but go back to the painful memory that happened ten days ago.

"What do you mean, Sir? How come my mother still has her last words?" Kevin asked after he regained his composure.

Derek didn't answer. Instead, he stretched his right hand out to touch the cubicle black box. To be precise, he touched the micro-sized button on the side of the box. The touch automatically opened the box. After the box opened, a hologram popped up from the opened box.

The four youngsters were surprised to see the hologram.

"M-mom?" Kevin stuttered as his shaken eyes stared at the hologram.

That's right. The hologram was his late mother.

"Your mom recorded it the night before she went to the island," Derek carefully explained. "She sent it to me right away and said that I had to show her last words to you after her death."

Kevin was speechless. His icy hands once again were enveloped by Kris' warm hand, but this time he still felt cold. He silently observed as the hologram of his late mother started talking.

["Kevin, this is your mom."]

A tear dropped from Kevin's right eye. He once again heard his mother's soft and tender voice. He missed her voice so bad.

["The time when you watch this recording... the God probably has sent me to the Underworld along with your dad."]

Kevin felt his chest tightened. His right hand unconsciously freed itself from Kris's grasp, and he used it to squeeze his chest.

["Please forget your coward mother, Kev. I should've finished all of it decades ago, but I was too stupid to do that. I should've given you loves as your biological mother, but I cowardly hid behind another woman's mask and tricked you all these times. I'm sorry, Kev."]

The atmosphere felt so gloomy. The other four people didn't say anything and just listened to Selena's words quietly.

["Don't worry, my darling. By the time you watch this hologram, the world surely has come back to normal. You don't have to feel afraid anymore because there will be no terror in the future. You can live normally as a human. I believe Kris has told you about the power in your body. You can save the werewolves, Kevin. Just get ready to extract it, and they will back to normal. At the same time, you'll also be back to normal. As much as I love your power, I know you prefer to be a normal human than a superhero, right, Kevin?"]

Kevin sneered a bit at his mother's words. He remembered when he was a kid, he didn't like superheroes like other kids usually did. The only heroes in his eyes were his parents, so he didn't need other heroes.

Unfortunately, reality had betrayed him. His parents were not the real heroes, but they were the villains.

["Just get rid of the power and go back to your daily activity, alright, Kev? I believe you will be a great scientist in the future. I know you're frustrated when you failed to create the antidote for the werewolves, but I believe you will do something greater in the future. Please believe in yourself, Kev. You're way stronger and more capable than me and your dad."]

Kevin sighed tiredly when he heard those words. Kris, who was sitting on his left, patiently rubbed his thumb on the back of his left hand that was still in his hold.

["Are Blue and Kris also there, Kev? If they're present, then I'd like to talk to them as well."]

Now Kris and Blue earnestly listened to the hologram in front of them.

["Kris, please take care of Kevin for me. He can be stubborn at times, so please be patient with him. Don't let him work too hard at the laboratory. Take some time to have a holiday together. Don't be too harsh on yourself too, Kris. You've worked so hard all these times. For me, Kevin, and also for Blue. You're my son too, so please don't let this lady worried about you in the Underworld. You get it, Kris?"]

"Why was she keep talking about the Underworld? Couldn't she choose a better word than that? That old woman was still annoying," Kevin suddenly chimed in with a sneer.

His face looked pathetic, but he still got the energy to nag his mother.

["And, Blue. You have met your uncle, haven't you? It's funny because you insisted on calling him 'uncle' from the start even without knowing that he's your real uncle. I tried to suppress my laughter back then, but now I'm glad that you finally reunite with your family member. You're not alone, Blue. And you also have a surname. Please don't be sad anymore. Don't feel lonely anymore, alright?"]

A tear dropped from Blue's blue eyes. Her heart hurt when she saw the hologram of her mother, who had been with her for seventeen years. She was not her biological mother, but their connection was as strong as the blood-related ones.

["And lastly, I want to say that you guys should go back to live as normal humans. The superpowers are cool, but that's too dangerous for you. Some people with malicious intents probably will target your powers, so it's better to let go of the powers. Even without the powers, I believe you guys can guard the world. I just want to see you guys be happy as normal humans. I don't want to see you burdened by the strong powers. Let go of the power and forget all the painful things in the past, alright?"]

Kevin, Kris, and Blue didn't say anything and just listened to the words earnestly.

["It's time for me to say goodbye. I leave this world to you. I believe you guys will do better than me in the past. My past was full of mistakes, and I did so many wrongdoings. The only thing that I did correctly was loving you, my dears. Please live well, and please forget me. I love you."]

The hologram glitched once and then vanished completely, leaving an invisible pain in the three youngsters' hearts.

Derek, who had been silent all the time, sighed softly and said, "You can keep the hologram recorder with you, Kevin. That's the last thing left by your mother. I know it's precious for you."

Kevin's right hand that was not grasped by Kris's moved to pick up the cubicle black box. He brought it in front of his eyes and sighed weakly.

"Thank you, Sir," he muttered before putting the box in his suit pocket. "You're the person that my mother trusts the most aside from me and Kris. You've been helping her a lot since decades ago. I don't know how to repay your kindness, Sir."

The old man waved his hand and said, "You don't need to be so polite with me." He smiled tenderly. "But, if you insist on repaying my kindness, then you can start it by calling me 'uncle.' I don't have any relatives in this world, and sometimes I felt lonely. You guys can repay me by calling me that way." He stared at the four youngsters in the room with an affectionate gaze.

The four youngsters returned the smile with a polite smile, and Kris was the one who replied, "It's such an honor to have an uncle like you."

The man laughed when he heard Kris' stiff response. "That's not the right attitude when you speak with your uncle. Stop being so nervous in front of me and take me as your family. It's not like I'm going to eat you, right?" He joked while shaking his head.

The four youngsters could only smile awkwardly at the question.

The former General then fished out his phone from his pocket and called someone. It looked like he called the waitresses to go back into the room again to serve their main dishes. The dishes were probably cold now.

Two waitresses quickly entered the room and started serving the dishes on the table.

"Do you guys mind eating cold foods? I really am sorry for delaying our dinner," the old man apologized gloomily.

"Ah, it's okay, Sir!" Jack was the one who quickly responded. The old man looked at him while frowning, and Jack corrected his mistake, "I mean, it's okay, Uncle. We don't mind eating cold foods."

The man finally laughed after hearing Jack's nervous words. The waitresses finished serving the dishes, and the man let the youngsters dig their food.

"Four hours before New Year, and I have a wish for the New Year," the former General suddenly spoke again. "I wish you guys will soon return to normal humans again and have a normal life. Happy New Year!"
