Chapter 11 - A Safe House

Stacey frowned at the dirty man that Caleb brought to her house. They let her in while the man removed his shoes and put them aside. He's also wearing dirty socks that have holes. She crossed her arms in front of Caleb who knelt and hug his ankle.

"Please let my friend stay," Caleb said dramatically.

"Hey, get off me for a moment."

Caleb did and stood.

"What's going on?"

"He can cook and he can do the dishes and other stuff. Just hire him as a house boy? Okay? My place is really in a bad situation right now. I might have also stayed for a night."

"What?" Stacey exclaimed and looked at the man who looked familiar. The man bowed his head to her and she nodded. "I don't understand."

"You see, Stace, this is Maverick. He's one of the good friends that I have and also Kenzo. So, please. Let him stay."

Stacey stared at Maverick for a while and dragged Caleb on the corridor to the kitchen.

"What the fuck?" She hissed at him.

"I would let him stay at my place but my dad and Samara are there. I don't know how long they are going to harass me." He explained shortly.

Stacey exhaled and massaged her forehead.

"How are you sure that he won't do anything bad to me?"

"A hundred percent sure!" he said. "Please… I will buy you anything you want."

Stacey raised her hand to stop him.

"Okay…" She nodded. "He's going to take the guest room downstairs."

"Yes!" Caleb hugged her tightly. "Thank you, Stace!"

"No problem. Just make sure that he won't hurt me or something bad."

"No." He shook his head. "He's not that bad at all. He recently got rejected from his job~~"

"I know that." She said. Caleb creased his brows. "I'll ready the room." She said and walked back to the foyer. "I'll let you stay and you can work for me as a house boy or whatever," Stacey said. "I'm a busy woman, so I only call for someone to clean up the house during Saturdays and to wash my clothes. But I can give you the guest room." She walked to the guest room and she told him to follow her.

Maverick followed the beautiful lady with long black hair that helped him many times. She opened the door and turned on the lights. "I'm sorry about a few boxes. But I'll have it removed by tomorrow."

"I~~I can clean it up and your whole house," Maverick told her. Stacey nodded. "You don't have to pay me money or anything. Just let me stay until I have a stable job."

"Okay," Stacey nodded.

Caleb grinned and hugged Maverick.

"This is good, man! Take care of my cousin. She's used to staying alone and I recently heard that there are thieves at night… so she should have someone to stay with."

Stacey thought that the guy is a good one. He preferred to eat trash than begging for money on the streets.

"Stace, can I use the room upstairs?"

"Yeah, whatever." She waved him off. She went to the cabinet and took out the sheets, pillows and placed them on the bed. "Bathroom is there and I think there are stocks of soaps, toothpaste, and toothbrushes."

Caleb smiled at Maverick and he didn't put his bag down.

"Thank you," Maverick said to her.

"I'm Stacey and you are welcome Maverick." Stacey smiled at him. "Uh, let me know what you need. But at the moment, I have to do some late work."

"Okay," Maverick nodded.

"And if you are hungry, the food is in the kitchen. Don't starve yourself, okay?"

Maverick nodded and Caleb grinned like a fool.

"Thanks, sis!" Caleb was already rotting for his cousin and his friend, but he won't make it too obvious now.

"Whatever." Stacey waved off and left.

"She's beautiful," Maverick said.

"Hey, don't do bad things to her." Caleb reminded him.

"I'm not that type of guy." Maverick put his bag down on the corner.

"Take a good bath and we'll have a drink later."

"Thank you, Caleb. Staying in a place like this is too much for me."

"Don't worry. Stacey is kind although she looked like a war freak."

"I know that she's kind. She's the girl that I told you about." Maverick was happy to meet her again and he's happy that he's in a safe place.

Caleb seemed to already plaster the grin on his face.

"See? We aren't just handsome and pretty blood. But we are also kind. Anyway, you go and take a bath."

Once that Caleb left. Maverick closed the door and smiled at the bathroom. He took his time cleaning himself, scrubbing the dirt, and doing a little moment while sitting on the toilet bowl. Then, he cleaned the bathroom. Next, he put clean clothes from his bag that he also needed to wash. He turned off the lights and charged the flashlight that he always has with him. He went outside and found Caleb sitting up in the living room with a cold beer in his hand. He pointed the beers on the buckets and he sat down and looked around the minimal decors. He wondered where that beautiful girl was.

He took a bottle of beer and opened the cap. He sipped on it and exhaled at the alcohol.

"Good, right?" Caleb asked.

"Yeah, thanks, Caleb."

"Hey, you don't have to thank me. I would let you stay at my house without any payment. But the problem is my dad and Samara. That girl was obsessed with me and it's scary."

"Yeah, it's indeed scary to have that girl who forces you. Bless you." Maverick teased him.

"Don't tease me that way. Samara… I've been with that girl and she's crazy. Even Stacey understood that. She acted sweet but when we are alone, she would make me scary things. She also hit me… It could be domestic violence…"

"You should stay away from people who are toxic," Maverick told him.

"That is why I choose you and Kenzo to be my friend rather than any one of those rich tycoons that Samara introduced me to." Caleb looked frustrated. "It's a good thing too that they don't know where Stacey lives. Or else, I don't have anyone to run off."

"Don't worry, when I find a good job and have enough money, I'll buy you a place where you can only access." Maverick smiled at him but he wasn't bluffing in front of Caleb.

"Thank you, bro. I will wait for you to get rich!"

"You should." Maverick chuckled. "I know, it's hard to get rich when I am unemployed and sleep under the bridge or on the empty streets. I know how it feels to starve to death. If it wasn't you and Kenzo, I would be already dead."

"Yeah," Caleb nodded. "By the way, who were the people who wanted to kill you? You mentioned that to me and Kenzo."

Maverick thought of his past life. But he can't go there without any power backing him up or else, they'll kill him. Caleb removed his belt and pants, showing his spider man boxer shorts and he curled up on the pillows.

"Hey, don't strip in here." Stacey took the throw pillow on the floor and smacked it to Caleb's face.

"So, when you become rich, what are you going to give me?" She smiled and took a bottle of beer and opened it for herself. He smiled at her and admired her beauty. She's simple and she has strong features. She's tall, has long black hair that has very adorable curls at the end. Her eyes are quite big and her nose is perfectly matched on her eyes and lips. For him, although she wasn't the most beautiful woman on earth, he knew that she was the most beautiful in his eyes.

"I'll give you everything," Maverick answered her like a promise. "I'll give whatever you name."

She sighed and smiled.

"Hmm, I'll count on that. And you don't have to worry about the electric bills. You can turn on the air conditioner. Caleb will pay for it."

Maverick never saw such a naughty smile that also looked seductive at the same time.
