Chapter 12:Jealously Looks Good on You

Staring at the young girl in front of me, I have no idea how to react.

Lee and I have amazing parents, they were busy, but always had time for us. On slow days we'd visit the company to increase our time together. Mom was dad's assistant, so she was often with us as well.

Most of all, what can I do about her father's situation? He was a cruel and heartless man, I honestly don't mind him getting charged for everything. A father who let his child be harmed should take on the responsibility for it. His negligence allowed Jen to be abused to this point. A man like that deserves to rot.

"Is that why you were so frightened by Lee investigating your past?"

"One of them, yeah."

"Do you want to leave the mall?"

"Will Mister Cheng see that I cried?"

"Yes, but I can make him shut it if he asks questions. Stop calling him Mr. Cheng anyhow, Lee is fine. I can't imagine the boy who ate a worm out of curiosity as a Mr anything."

Jen's eyes widen.

"He did?"

"Yes."

"Oh my gosh, that's so disgusting."

Her laughter has me beaming. I wish she could always be this happy and amused. It made her tired face light up.

How long does it take to shop for clothes?

Jen looked petrified when we came into the mall, I expected her to turn around at any moment and run. Being unable to see her put me on edge. She's fine, right?

Dammit Ann, if you hurt her in any way...

"Go ahead."

A few hesitant steps approach me from behind. I stay completely still to not startle her. Yet it was her who made me surprised.

"What do you think Lee?"

Jen grins at me while playing with the hem of her white lace shirt. High waisted shorts allow to expose only a thin line of her midriff. It's hard to notice from the shadows cast by the shirt. As she bites her lip nervously, it hits me that Jen called me Lee.

"It looks... good."

"Psh, good? Try harder, she's gorgeous. Right?"

Ann leans over and pecks Jen's cheek with a devilish grin, then raises an eyebrow at the confused girl. I know she's up to no good. Suddenly getting the hint, she blurts out a rehearsed line.

"Jealousy looks good on you."

I choke on air while she laughs at the expense of my ability to breathe.
