Under the dizzying streetlights reflecting off of the wet stone road, I glance in both directions before tentatively crossing the street. I lost track of time and became uncertain of how to return.
The moist map in my hands wilted miserably, becoming of little use. At the very least the rain stopped, but I was still left with no direction. When the rain isolated me earlier this world looked so much more different. Now it was vast and inescapable.
For how long have I been gone?
I hope no one made a big deal of it, but I wish that at least one person was looking for me. But it feels like we'll keep running past each other while never becoming closer, no way to close the distance. Now more than ever do I feel how far apart we are.
"Lee? I'm waiting, so please come find me." I hold myself while whispering to absolutely no one.
Arms grab me from behind, causing me to squeak in panic. I try to turn around, but I'm only held tighter.
"Jennifer, I found you."
"I found you." Lee whispers, turning me around in his arms, then kissing my lips. I stand on my tiptoes to kiss him back, interlocking my fingers behind his head.
"Why are you so beautiful?" He finally pulls back to cup my face.
"I don't know." I can't help but giggle. When Lee pauses I tilt my head to the side in confusion while smiling. He leans down to kiss me again, and I've never felt happier than in that moment.
"I love you Lee."
"I love you too Jennifer."
