Fauna Kent's POV
After we had spent 2 days in Madeira, my sister had to do something dramatic. And that was showing up last minute when we were about to get familiar with the city. I mean, me not Adam. He is already familiar with it. We were cooking some dinner together as I was making the Portuguese stew that I promised to Adam when the phone rang.
"Can you get my phone, please?" I asked him as I was cutting some vegetables to put into the stew. The meat was ready as it has tenderized over the hours that I was putting it in salt and pepper.
"sure," Adam said as he was getting out of the kitchen after sipping on the wine. He took my phone before handing it to me after I washed my hand.
"Hello?" I asked the caller on my phone.
"guess who's back?" Was the first thing that my mother told me as I was knocking my eyebrows together.
"Well, certainly not me," I said. She sighed before she told me the bad news.
"Your sister's home. And we wanted you to come home right now with Adam. Put Adam on the phone," she said as she was arguing with my dad before my dad took over.
"honey, Fauna, give the phone to Adam, please?" He said as I was trying to hide my worries as I was looking at Adam. He was arching his eyebrow at me before I gave the phone to him.
"here, my dad wants to talk to you," I said as I was smiling weakly at him. He took it as he greeted his father-in-law. I was cutting the vegetables again but my mind wandered out of the kitchen that I was in.
Then, I felt pain as I looked at my finger. It was bleeding.
"oh my gosh, Fauna. You cut your hand," Adam said as he was grabbing the clean towel and wrapped it around my finger. I was numb. I don't felt any pain, I was in my misery as I was trying to control this emotion.
"here, let sit here," he said as he went into the living room and put me on the sofa. I was holding the towel when he went to the bathroom and brought the first-aid kit.
"Why are you being clumsy? I know you were good with knives," he said as he was putting some antiseptic to clean my wound. I did not even flinch.
"Fauna?" He asked me as he was looking at me. I looked at him as I was emotionless.
"Why are you not talking to me?"
"will you go to my sister now that she's back?" I blurted out before I stopped myself. After I registered what I said, I closed my eyes and sighed as Adam had done his job on wrapping my wound.
"what do you mean?"
"well, you were promised to her and now that she's back, my mother will force you to get back together with her," I said as I was looking at my hands. It was wrapped in bandages as I did not aware that Adam had drawn it inside his hands.
"Fauna, I love you. I will never leave you after I just get married to you. Like it or not, you stuck with me until death does us apart," he said as he kissed me on the lips before I can protest. I snaked my arms around his neck before he rested his forehead against mine.
"well, you have to say that to my mother," I said as I was closing my eyes. He chuckled.
"well, you might need to get dressed for the flight,"
"Are we over the honeymoon now?" I asked him as I opened my eyes as I was looking at his stormy eyes.
"well, we see after we meet your parents first, and your sister. We have to settle everything out," he said as he kissed me again before he went to help me to get a pack and we were on the plane that night.
It was nerve-wracking. You see, I was in the same room as Adam as well as my sister. She was looking more gorgeous as she was sitting demurely on the sofa and sipping on her tea. She was wearing a sundress that was not sexy yet conservative.
well, she was the perfect daughter.
My parents and my in-laws were discussing something about the CEO that they were going to choose. Of course, it will not be me and Adam was out in his job. So that leaves, Flora. I guess it was inevitable now.
the parents came as Amanda was smiling at me. I was smiling back at her as she took her husband's hand and they were sitting on the other seat before my parents looked at us. They were standing as they were ready to deliver the not so good news.
"Flora, since you have disappeared from your introduction day with your fiancé, he has been engaged and married to your sister. It was a promise that I made with Leonor that we will merge the company with our daughter and son married," dad started.
"We have always hoped it was you," my mother chimed in.
Of course, she was the chosen one. I know that she might be smiling at me right now and goading.
wait, what?
I turned to look at her as she was putting her cup down and she was looking at my mum and my dad.
"Sorry, what was that honey?" My mum asked her again as she was being deaf just now.
"I will not marry my brother-in-law. besides, I have things to tell you as well," Flora said as she put out a file on the table. I tried to look at it but my dad beat me to it.
"what was the meaning of this?!" He asked Flora as she was looking at my father.
"My resignation,"
"you cannot do that. This company was for you and you will take over it," my dad said as I looked at them. Flora scoffed. I mean, she never scoffed before.
what just happened?
"I am sick and tired of you to plan my life and with this resignation, I am signing away my rights to Adam so that he can take over the company," she said as she was standing up before she took her bag.
"I was about to say goodbye to you all," she said as she looked at my parents before she looked at me. Her eyes softened.
"I know you have been through enough. He will keep you happy. I know because I have found my own," she spoke to me in Italian so that the others will not know about it. I smiled at her.
"so, if you excuse me, I will have another work to do," she said as she was greeting Adam's parents and went out of the house.
"Flora," my mother called after her before she ran toward her. I don't know what to say. My sister did not want to be the bad guy in my life and she was genuine when she told me that she had found her love.
"So, that leaves me no choice but you, Adam," my dad said as Leonor was nodding at my dad.
"Will you be ready to accept your new position at the company?" My dad asked Adam. wait, what was happening?
"I thought you have another job as Lieutenant," I asked Adam after the silence that I had given them.
"well, let just say, I have an agreement to get out of the service and will be joining the family company after I got married. My captain was happy to get me released," he said as he squeezed my hands. I narrowed my eyes at her.
"We talk about it later," he whispered before my dad and Leonor were talking with Adam to get the proper working papers done.
"I saw that you were relieved to see that your sister did not take Adam away. You must love him," Amanda said as I was putting some put together supper for us. We might be going back to Madeira to continue our honeymoon so I might as well eat it.
"huh? Oh yeah, I am in love with him," I said honestly as I looked at Amanda. Her eyes softened.
"well, cherish him always,"
"I will,"
"now, why don't we call for our dinner then," she said as I was laughing to call for the guys to eat.
this has been one of the best days of my life.
my marriage stayed.
my sister and I were okay.
and my mum will never dictate me what to do anymore
Happy life, finally.
Flora Kent's POV
"Flora, wait," my mother called for me after I left the living room. I was about to walk out of my parents' life once and for all and I wanted so badly right now.
"Flora, don't do this. You were not in your right mind. We can talk this through," my mother said before I turned to look at her.
"Enough mum, Fauna was happy for once in her life and you wanted me to ruin it. I will not do that to my little sister," I said as I was looking at my mum. She was stunned alright but I guess she just did not expect this outburst from me.
"Why are you keep saying that? Surely Adam was excellent for you,"
"no, I have met someone else and he was what all I wanted," I said as I was looking at her. She grimaced.
"Flora—"
"no, just forget I was here. I have to get to work,"
"but you just resigned,"
"who said I was working for you? I got employed elsewhere," I said as I was walking through the front door.
"Flora!"
And that was the last time I heard my mother screamed my name.
