Emmelyn didn't see Mars all day after lunch. He said he would come back right after he met the king to discuss the royal affairs. However, until dinner time, he still didn't show up.
"Roshan, has His Highness returned?" Emmelyn asked for the nth time that night. The woman paced in the dining room and pouted. She was not used to not having Mars around during dinner.
They already established a routine and she loved their routine. Being cooped up indoors most of the time bored her to death.
She could only bear the boredom by keeping herself occupied with her sewing, or talking to their baby, and waited for him to come back.
She always looked forward to lunchtime and dinner because then she could see him and talked to him about whatever. It was really pleasant.
And they always did that almost without fail for the past three months. Today, was the only time that he was missing from their dining room, and Emmelyn felt really upset.
She didn't know not seeing him during dinner just this once could make her feel so distraught.
"Gosh.. what's wrong with me? Before I came here, I traveled alone and I ate alone and everything was fine," she scolded herself. "Why am I being so depended and spoiled? He must be really busy that he couldn't come home for dinner."
"But.. but... if he was really busy, he could have sent someone to let me know. I hate waiting.." she muttered to herself. "Didn't he know I hate waiting???"
"Wait.. what if something bad happened to him? What if he was injured... or..." She quickly waved and called Roshan to come. "Can you please send someone to the royal palace and check if the crown prince was injured or hurt?"
Roshan who had been observing the princess pacing and talking to herself tried to hold back his cough and bowed down. "Will do, Your Highness."
He immediately left the dining room and went out to see the head of the castle guards. He notified him of Emmelyn's request to send a soldier to check on the prince.
Both men were jealous to see Emmelyn was anxious just because the prince had not returned for dinner. They could see how much she cared about him.
Actually, they thought it was nothing strange for the prince to come home late. He might stay behind to take care of some royal matters or the king might need him to do something.
Before Emmelyn was around, the crown prince was never home anyway. He would always be busy with his army on the field or do stuff in the royal palace. He would be home late at night.
They only noticed that he always returned during lunchtime and dinner in the past three months. So, it was likely that he only did it for her.
However, it was only natural if he became busy and couldn't always come home for dinner, right?
But apparently, the princess didn't think so. She insisted to find out what happened to him.
"Jerome already sent a soldier to check on His Highness to the royal palace," Roshan came back with his report. "It's quite late now, Your Highness. Maybe you should start eating dinner? His Highness will be distraught if he finds out that you didn't eat just because you are waiting for him."
Emmelyn glanced at the dishes on the table and her tears started dripping. She hated eating alone. So, why did he do this to her?
"Please, Your Highness... Think about the little one. You are eating for two now." Roshan tried to coax the woman with a gentle voice.
Emmelyn finally relented. She knew the butler was right. She must not be selfish. So, she finally sat down and started taking some food to her plate.
Emmelyn didn't understand what happened to her. Why on earth did she cry over such trivial matter?
She was sure Mars must have something urgent to do, so he couldn't come home on time as usual.
She shouldn't have cried, right?
Yet, she couldn't help it. Her tears kept streaming down her cheeks as she took a bit of meat and chew it. Roshan who stood in the corner and observed her could only massage his temple.
He suspected that the lady was having a breakdown because of her pregnancy hormones. She looked so pitiful, crying and eating at the same time.
"This is your medicine, Your Highness." He came over with a bowl of potion from Mr. Vitas after he saw Emmelyn finished her meal. "Please don't forget to take the potion."
Emmelyn pursed her lips, but she took it anyway. Once she finished the potion. She rose from her seat and checked the door.
"Any news from the soldier?" She asked Roshan. The butler quickly came to her and bowed down again.
"Yes, the soldier returned just now. He said the prince is coming home soon."
"So, he is okay?" Emmelyn asked again.
"Yes, Your Highness. The prince is okay. He just needed to do something urgently," Roshan explained.
"Why didn't he say anything to me?" Emmelyn stomped her feet. "He could have sent someone!"
Gosh! She felt so upset and angry.
This turned her mind into a mess. She hated the feeling. She didn't want to be angry at him, but she was.
"He could have sent someone so I wouldn't need to wait for him," she muttered, sounding so disappointed.
"The soldier said the prince is coming home soon. So, I think you just need to wait a bit more, Your Highness," said Roshan with respect.
Emmelyn shook her head. The disappointment was written all over her face.
"No, I will not wait for him any longer. I will sleep now," she said.
The princess walked gracefully toward her chamber and closed the door behind her.
Roshan could only let out a long sigh.
"Oh, Your Highness, please come back soon. The princess is feeling really sad..." he muttered to himself like saying a prayer.
