Mars remembered Emmelyn disliked eating in their chamber. She always insisted that they must eat in the dining room. However, last night and this morning she preferred to eat here.
This must mean that she was feeling so sad and she didn't want to see other people, that she preferred to eat in the chamber, against her usual principle. He hoped that she would rest more while he was away and gained her strength.
He planned to get Mr. Vitas to check up on her again after he returned from the royal palace.
"Your Highness," Roshan bowed down when he saw the crown prince come out of his chamber. It looked like he had been waiting for his master for a while now. "Should I prepare breakfast for Your Highness?"
"Yes." Mars nodded and pointed at the chamber. "However, we will eat inside the chamber. Please just get the food on the tray. I will bring them inside."
Roshan didn't question the prince's order. He hurriedly went to the kitchen and got the cooks to prepare the dishes on a tray and he brought them out to give the prince.
They worked so efficiently and in no time Mars had already accepted them. He went inside and put the tray of food on the table in front of the sofa where Emmelyn was sitting. She had opened the curtains and was looking out the window when he entered.
"It is raining outside," she commented. "Better use the carriage to go to the royal palace."
"I will do it," Mars replied. He poured tea into their two cups and gave one to Emmelyn. "Are your hands still weak?"
Emmelyn raised her hands and observed them. Then she shook her head. "No, I think I'm fine now."
"Ah, that's good." Mars was relieved to hear that.
"Thank you for last night," Emmelyn added. She was referring to the fact that her husband fed her before they went to bed. She felt really spoiled.
"No need to thank me. Your well-being is my responsibility," he responded. When Emmelyn looked at him with confusion plastered on her face, the man added, "When we got married, I vowed to love you and protect you. So, what I did last night was nothing special. It was just my way of fulfilling my promise to you."
Emmelyn's eyes became droopy when she heard him. Ahh.. she didn't make the wrong choice when she accepted his proposal. This man was really a good husband.
Secretly, she compared him to her own father, the late king of Wintermere. She was glad that Mars was not like her father.
"Someday, there will come the time when it will be me who needs your help, and I know you will do anything for me," Mars said. "That's what husbands and wives do."
Emmelyn smiled faintly. She knew he was right. She didn't say anything but just accepted the teacup from his hand. Slowly, she sipped the tea. Mars sat beside her and also enjoyed his tea.
They ate breakfast in silence. None of them thought words were needed. Just being with each other during this tough time meant so much to them.
Emmelyn still didn't have her appetite, but she forced herself to eat the bread and sausage. She knew she needed to eat so her body would stay healthy during her pregnancy. She didn't want to make him worry.
"Okay. Let me get this tray back to the kitchen. Do you want to go back to bed?" Mars asked Emmelyn after they were done eating.
Emmelyn shook her head. She still wanted to be alone, but she no longer wished to spend it in bed all day. She had steeled her heart to go out later and see her brother's body.
"I want to see the garden from here," she said. "They make me calm."
"Okay. When do you want to see Killian?" Mars got up and took the tray from the table. "I will tell Roshan to take you there."
"Hmm... Maybe after lunchtime. I need to prepare..." Emmelyn replied.
Yes, she needed to prepare her heart for the heartbreaking event. She wanted to go there with Mrs. Adler. At least, if she had the witch with her, she wouldn't feel so lonely.
"Okay, Honey. You can take your time."
When she saw him about to leave their chamber with the tray, Emmelyn immediately called him. She just remembered she wanted to ask Roshan to go and pick up Mrs. Adler.
"Before you go... could you please tell Roshan to go and invite Mrs. Adler to come here?" Emmelyn asked him. "He knows where she lives."
"Okay, I will tell him."
Mars left their chamber and gave the tray to Roshan. He told him what Emmelyn wanted.
"I will go now and get Mrs. Adler," Roshan replied. "Is there anything else I could get Her Highness?"
"Nothing. Just let her rest and make sure you have some maids waiting by the door, in case she would need anything."
"Duly noted, Your Highness."
Mars went back to their chamber and bid goodbye to Emmelyn. He was happy with today's development. It looked like Emmelyn was slowly recovering from her pain. He really hoped what happened the day before wouldn't affect her health and her pregnancy.
"Honey, I have to go now. I will talk to my father and then talk to the Prestons. I will try to come back before dinner time, but if I come home late, you must not wait for me," he said. "I also have assigned two maids by your door. Just call them if you need anything."
"Thank you."
Mars kissed Emmelyn's forehead and then rubbed her shoulder gently before he turned around and left their chamber. Emmelyn saw from her window that her husband indeed followed her advice. He took the carriage to go to the royal palace.
She watched him get into the carriage and then left, She didn't know what would be the king's reaction when he found out that his only son had been married to the enemy.
Inwardly, she hoped the king would be understanding.
